~
The fortepiano was built in 1992 by Monika May in Marburg. It is a copy after an original Viennese instrument made by Anton Walter in 1785 that is part of the instrument collection “ Monika May / Gerald Woehl” Marburg.
~
The Arpeggione is an original instrument from 1847 made by Georg Tiefenbruner in Munich. Compared to other surviving instruments it has a rather small corpus, more likely a guitar than a cello, although it is a melt down of these two. The bow is a violin bow made by Thomas M. Gerbeth, Vienna 2019.
Recorded on June 13th 2021 (Frankfurt, Germany).
video and audio production: Winfried Hyronimus

This is the best version I can find on youtube of a recording with an arpeggione, well done! I just love the unique sound of the instrument, with bowing like a viola da gamba and plucking like a guitar. I hope someday I will have the opportunity to play such an interesting piece of music history.

Great! The fortepiano seems to be a bit before Schubert's time (the Deletaille & Roudier performance uses a warmer period instrument that I think matches the music's character better), but I love the virtuosity and great blend between the fortepiano and arpeggione here!

So far the best version I've heard.Full of convincing musical characterisations, although there are some moments in the second movement when I prefer the modern piano. But it wouldn't fit to this small arpeggione.

The reason why you're using a Violin Bow has to due w/ the size of the Body. Nicolas Deletaille uses a Cello Bow as the Body on his is a little bit bigger.

we played a concert without masks. the keyboard player was infected with corona - as he found out later. the two musicians who were playing next to him (at about 1,5m distance) got infected by him after 3 days, too. the other musicians, being further away, did not get infected. this shows there is a thin line, were the infection can get transmitted and where not. if all of them would have worn masks, the infection would probably not had spread from one musician to the next. [edit] (4 days later) 5 more of the musicians got Corona now. All in all 8 of 15 musicians got infected. The other seven were lucky, had less close contact, were discussing less, did not share the same car, did not have food inside the venue.

Very nice indeed - EXCEPT for using original instruments. There's never any justification for it.
@geigenunterricht8684
@geigenunterricht8684 2 года назад
Why? The gestus on original instruments is completely different and ear-opening for pieces like this. Of course you can achieve a good and adequate sound with modern instruments too, but it's different..
@scotthullinger4684
@scotthullinger4684 2 года назад
@@geigenunterricht8684 - It's nice just to get a listen of the differences, but it's not superior. I for one don't prefer it. If and when I hear an old forte piano, it reminds me of a toy piano. I don't need to hear everything on ONLY a Steinway, but the difference is monumental. How would you like to hear Yo-Yo Ma play something on a tinker toy cello?
@cretium805
@cretium805 2 года назад
Try the performance by Deletaille and Roudier. When you hear the fortepiano sound from Schubert's time (as opposed to the classical era fortepiano here), it makes a lot of sense. The warmer sound suits the intimate chamber music setting very well together with the arpeggione, I wish it had been availabe to these two excellent performers too.
