Start on the third, not the root . . . . that's what kicks it from mundane to wow! Thanks so much, Kent. Wishing you well, as ever!

Excellent lesson. I love the attitude of finding what works for you and drilling that. I have the tendency to play lots of stuff then forget most of it. I'll really enjoy practicing these arpeggio ideas tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks from Dublin, Ireland.

Howdy, Kent! I'm glad that you mentioned it. Slow practice helps you become consistent, and even. It is important to play your arpeggios (and scales) consistently or the same way each time. Once you have that down, you can speed up. Every teacher I've had has stressed the importance of slow practice. Your phone can run a metronome app if you don't have a real metronome. Kent, I don't have time to play in keys I don't like! Two handed arps sound great, and even try crossing the left arm over the right to extend your arpeggiated sounds and/or harmonies is a technique that old Freddy Chopin used to "knock 'em dead" in Paris, or so I've been told. 😉 Thank for another great video, Kent. 👍🏼

Love the tone of your grand piano Kent (and your playing!). I like adding a Dmajor arp over a C bass, but it is a bit cliché. I also like alternating between Dmajor to Gmajor (before climbing to the next octave) over the C bass which draws it out maybe too long for a live performance. I only perform for my wife and labrador… 8^) Other than that, I like the exercise you mention going through those dim. modes.

It all depends on your aptitude and how much time you have to practice.

what are some tips on how to play legato without using the pedal with arpeggios?
@KentHewittpiano88
@KentHewittpiano88 Год назад
I didn't talk about the pedal. However the pedal is always used when playing arpeggios for connecting the notes. Legato playing requires holding down the note until the next note is hit...as little space between notes as possible...takes practice. I always use the pedal for smoother playing.

Hilarious, did you put some translator on this video? Just funny how it gets things wrong. There was something about a third eye!

First time I tried the sub-titles option....a new feature. But you have to back and make a lot of corrections. I guess I missed some!

@@KentHewittpiano88 ah... 2:46. Liked that exercise doing major 7 to b7 then minor to half diminished and full.... gives some insight into why people stress triads and how to view them as parts of other chords
