He has played in clubs and concerts with jazz notables Jackie McLean, Kenny Burrell, Phil Woods, Chet Baker, Zoot Sims, Clark Terry, Cassandra Wilson , & many others. He resides in Waterford, CT. and has written a jazz course book: Jazz Piano: Methods and Songbook for Professional Playing, www.kenthewitt.com/ "My only equipment is a Canon Power shot S95 camera which records the video and sound and I'm downloading to Wondershare Filmora 9, where I do the editing. That's it...very simple." Intro music is from my CDs.
For the 3 pianos I use on my videos, I have a 1905 rebuilt Mason and Hamlin Model AA, 6' grand piano, '72 Yamaha Upright, and a Roland RD 300nx Digital Piano. All are great instruments, so I hope you enjoy their sound. Please write to me anytime.
This is great Kent, thanks for turning me on to this tune. I just found a video where someone had a transcription of the solo Oscar Peterson did and that’s insane. Total mastery of the piano. Anyway this is going on my to do list. Can you share any insights on what scales you were using most often in your solo? I think i saw the half-whole or whole-half pattern a bunch but that might just be because you were teaching it to me and it biased me. I tried slowing it down but it got tricky trying to tell so maybe it’s easy for you to just say what you were doing.
Unfortunately, paypal does not work in Turkey. That's why I couldn't buy PDF copies of your books. If you add Google payment method or Amazon Pay to your website, people from Turkey who are interested in your book can buy it.
I commented on this video before, but I have to say again it is the BEST Stella on YT. Actually, one of the best ive heard, period; and I have albums and cd’ that I have collected since I’ve been in my twenties by all the greats. There is so much “information” in your soloing; all tasteful and swinging, I would love to hear you explain/ breakdown more then you already have. And, the comping is a class of instruction all by itself! In this one tune you can hear elements of your years of experience that is invaluable. Please consider more detail on this video. There is so much information and knowledge that can be gleaned from just this one tune when it is dissected thoroughly. I listen to it regularly and learn, a bit at a time.
Another great lesson Kent! Thanks for showing this to me. Seems surreal that I’m seeing you perform live in 30 min…if anyone reads this comment some of the best money you’ll ever spend are lessons from Kent at Summerkeys in Lubec, Maine.

Kent, you are such a great instructor!! Thank you for the little details that you add to your videos, like the variations of chord voicings and your varied approach in different settings, i.e., solo, trio, vocal. I especially appreciate your approach to vocal accompaniment. Piano solos are everywhere, but learning how to play while singing or accompanying a singer is not taught enough. I must say that you are quite the vocalist as well. Really enjoy your work. Thanks again!!
Let me just say that everything you do is so wonderfully instructive and inspiring. And your books are awesome. They are my local jazz bible at my piano. Deepest thanks always Kent! Best always!!! 🙏🏻✨✨✨
Although we as a listener and music lover will never explore the whole world inside Bill's mind, seeing you shed light on just even a glimpse of what makes Bill Evans Bill Evans is really amazing! I''ve been self-learning piano for 4 years and your videos has helped me so much as I'm starting to learn jazz! Thanks a lot, Kent! And also, greeting from Vietnam <3
Terrific lesson maestro. Have my diminished scales locked in but your explanation of the Barry Harris diminished 6th finally dropped the penny. The symmetry is amazing. Sometimes I think I’m just too slow to get this stuff but thankfully this lesson nailed it for me. Cheers
Thank you, Kent. I really enjoyed (and learned a lot from) this video. What digital keyboard do you use to play this electric piano sound, if I may? Michael Ps. I am looking forward to your future book (or at least a longer written presentation) of the funk music.
