About the taxi problems you mentioned at the start, the taxi driver added extra fees because of either that you crossed a tunnel, you crossed a bridge, you brought luggages or that you brought pets. The amount of money the taxi driver added is the toll fare of tunnels/bridges you crossed and number/weight of luggages. The information about extra fees on a taxi will be labeled on a yellow sheet of paper stuck on the passenger door.
Depends🤪, at that time (the first three days of CNY) most of the shops (eat and purchase) will be closed for CNY holidays. The situation will be same as pandemic period. Dead Quiet. 🍊
Every time I get back to HK from Zhuhai, if I have time I will go to MC first, and then randomly walk from Zhuhai-MC border to MC-HK ferry terminal, then take ferry back to HK. It's always a pleasant walk!
About the taxi problems you said in the start, the taxi driver added extra fees because of either you brought luggages on the taxi, you crossed a tunnel or a bridge that requires toll, or you brought a pet(dog/cat) on the taxi.
The tourists' gesture at the end of the film is to imitate the photo of Stanley Ho, the gambling king, once holding a chip at the gate of the New Lisboa
Cool video. My wife and I were there just before Christmas. What a place!-walked down the same streets as you did, although we entered by land from Zhuhai. Apparently there are over 6000 gambling tables in Macao and they create 3 times the amount of profit as Las Vegas.
We was in Macau last September 2023 with family of 8 rented two alphard van luxury with drivers from a company very expensive as it costed us 1209.00 dollars round trip from Hongkong airport to Venetian Macau and back to Hongkong airport stayed 5 nights. and went exactly to that place where you’re at tasted all those delicious meats. myself and family had a great time.👏
You can try to go to Shenzhen, which is a Chinese city next to Hong Kong. It can be said to be China’s Silicon Valley, the headquarters of DJI, Tencent and Huawei. It is not a city with a 144-hour policy, but you can also enter directly and apply for a port visa to stay for a week.
For the HK Taxi, they might add the suitcase storage fee if you need to use the back of the taxi to store your luggage, or it is the extra tunnel fee added if you had been go through tunnel.
I think the additional charge is for your luggage. The fee for each piece of luggage is $6 HKD, and the charging standards are usually posted inside the taxi.
Thank you soo much for transporting me back and allowing me to retrace every one of my steps taken over the years. Absolutely loved every stay in Macau (always as part of a Hong Kong trip) although I regrettably have always stayed on the Cotai Strip - I reckon you guys are doing in better with your location. Ps: there as fort right next to St Paul’s Ruins (nothing special I suppose) I also bought jerky at that very spot that you were sampling, many times 😂
Actually u can go to MC from HK by the bus through HK-MC-Canton Bridge. U can take the bus at HK port which is near the airport. The bus ticket just 50hkd and u just only take 30mins to MC. More convenient and cheaper!
I usually watch your video during my cardio section in the morning, while i watch the hk one I was thinking are you guys gonna come to macau too, and now you're here and welcome to Macau !
The hand gesture originated in S Korea. It represents one half of a heart. It’s usually an invited to create the other half of the heart with your hand and hold it up for filming.
tbh as a local,i dont use taxis frequently because the price raised so I prefer the LRT(goes all the way to barra) or bus, also you can get a macaupass at a convenience store (its like the octopus card or suica)
Hey if you guys decide to go to Hong Kong again, may I suggest to go to the Hong Kong Sevens Rugby tournament in April. It's the biggest annual sporting event in HK and it's a crazy weekend of rugby and parties.
There’re different types of additional charges for taxi cab😢in HK. For instance tunnel fares, luggage and large carry-on bags, … Perhaps that’s why you needed to pay more than what the meter says.
After visting two former Portuguese colonies, when you make it to Portugal the feeling of déjà-vu will be insane. About the pronounciation of "de": it really depends on the accent or dialect, as well as on the word itself; the "dgee"-like pronounciation is more common in the Brazilian southeast, but I dare say most other places would pronounce a hard "d" in that context. So you can say the two of you won the challenge, from a certain point of view.
Base on your film, you have 2 piece of luggage , each luggage will charge you 5 dollar per trip, thats why in total $10. This is the rules set by HK Transport Department and display in each taxi
i can explain it to you about the taxi issue. coz some taxi are for " local " or only to X zone, will charge you more specially if u are crossing bridge or tunnels, and luggages ^_^
Just spent the New Year’s Eve @ Macau, which is quite disappointing … huge queue from Zhuhai and everything is like 3 times as expensive as in mainland 😢. And the restaurant owners don’t usually let u have food or drink from other stores even you do spend money there. Decent Portuguese food though hehe, though EVERY store has a 30 minute queue due to holiday time lol.
Hi Steve, If you have any questions regarding Chongqing, you may want to contact Alex of Reporterfy Media & Travel RU-vid Channel. You may or may not have watched his videos before. Alex is a Canadian (I think from Toronto) who has been living and working in Chongqing for a while now. You could perhaps get some info from him about the city. He might even show you guys around.
Taking taxi in HK, tipping is strictly voluntary. On top of meter fare you pay extra for toll fees - road tunnels and cross harbor tunnels, pet animals and luggage in the trunk. Details are displayed on a yellow label inside the taxi. Beware 😊 HK has 3 types of taxis - red operates in urban areas, green in New Territories and sky blue in Lantau Island.
Oh, this is good info! Thanks for this. A lot of people commented they were making half of the heart sign… but it seemed different than that, so I think your answer is most correct
Was working in Macau at Coloane, across the bridge for more than1 year. work as a chef and part time tour guide in Macau. But that was 1998, it was still under Portuguese at that time. Was not so expensive then.
If you had luggage with you, there’s extra charge. If you had crossed the harbour from Kowloon side to HK side or vice versa, there’s extra charge. You didn’t get scammed.
Welcome to Macau! As for the hand gesture people posting in front of the casino, it's because Stanley Ho( a billionaire businessman who owned nineteen casinos in Macau including the Grand Lisboa behind you guys)had a photo done at that spot with that gesture, holding a big shining diamond between his fingers.
I’m not sure if it’s the same thing but I learnt on my first trip to Hong Kong that they charge you a toll fee for going through the undersea tunnels as well as the return fee. There’s also a small sign that’s visible inside the cabin that states the toll fee but if you anything like me, I missed it a few times during my cab rides and too wondered why the price is always more.
I see you wheeling two pieces of luggage in the video. Two pieces of luggage in the trunk = metered fare + HKD6*2 (no charge for any carry bags carried inside the taxi itself). Though you said it increased by HKD 10 not 12. Hmmm! So I'm not fully sure! Hope you enjoyed Macau!
keep in mind LORD STOW'S is the best egg tart in asia and the store is in coloane, a small town at the end of macau. worth the trip and a good contrast with the casinos.
A while ago there was a fare adjustment and before they could properly set up the meters they just tacked ten HKD (~1.2 USD) onto the end of each bill. Other possibilities include surcharges for luggage, tunnel fees, etc. (seeing the rest of the video, you guys had quite a few suitcases, so it was probably that) Plus, if they were trying to rip you off, they'd have gone for a lot more than ten HKD. They'd have like, doubled the fare.
the gesture in the end of your vid, a ৻ with one hand usually means a part of heart in east asia sns, ppl sometimes do that in photo instead of make a whole♥
If u go across the tunnel there is a fee and they will also charge u for a return trip too. So u didn’t get scam it is what it is!! Like u r travelling in between hk island and Kowloon
The HK$10 extra should be your luggage charge since you have 2 suitcases( regardless the size), HK$5/piece is reasonable. If the taxi driver was a scammer, your charge would be much more than HK$10.
Tell you what? My son bought us 6 pieces of Malaysian Portuguese egg tarts just now. Well, l will give it 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐🤓😅 Chinese New Year is approaching so Chinese households will definitely stock up those meat jerky (pork and chicken) l haven't tried beef jerky 😂 Great to see Macau thru' your eyes, Steve lvana. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Guys, Brazilian here. Ivana is wrong "ponto di tomada". In many places of Brazil we change the e for an i, you guys said Rio de(di) Janeiro, thats the way
Wow a ferry to Macao ? I was in Hong Kong last year and took a different route, we went to a station (sorry, forgot the name ?) a few stops away from DisneyLand HK, and caught a bus to a coach terminal where we transferred onto a coach to Macao.
@@racheljerram5420Portuguese colonizers wasn’t in a strong position in Macau while they were the official gov. They weren’t coercing on the society to use their language, let alone so many second or third generation of Portuguese descendants who weren’t living in their ancestral cultures nor its language.
I got scammed by the taxi before. They intentionally drove around at night before dropping us off, charging us more. Since we were not familiar with route, we paid the fare. But later found out we got scammed. We learned now we can report them through the phone number labeled on the taxi. They also have their taxi id number on there.
Taxis in Hong Kong are more honest than 1 in the USA or India, to be honest, that 10$ might be for luggage as I can see you have 2 bags that's 5$each (notice is stuck at the yellow label inside the taxi).
yo as a brazilian who already went to Macau and Hong Kong, a piece of advice? on the way out of the harbour in macau, depending where you are staying u can get for free buses that get you to some casinos, and they are free of charge, so you can get those buses and go in the city for free , and even if you get a taxi in the city is way cheaper ,
The government has increased the taxi fare in hk but the meter isnt updated. So they manually have to add on the increase themselves. When i was in hk in October, i said this to my mate that alot of tourist will think theynare getting scammed
The Grand Lisbona has two main buildings. From your video, the one on the right side across the street was the old original Lisbona. It shapes like a bird cage. It is said to trap wealth (people)… the new one was the one showed in the video with lots of sharp edges. It is said to chop you with no qualms. lol Casinos are not places to get rich but to get ripped. I guess. 😂
As an outsider the Portuguese influence may be nice. For Chinese it's good riddance to centuries of imperialism. The power differential between China and Portugal is immense today. History is crazy.
Portuguese influence was reduced, the Portuguese community was tiny compared to the Chinese, and with the handover to China few Portuguese remained. The food is a Chinese imitation of some Portuguese dishes, like the Chinese do with everything. Nobody speaks Portuguese there. There was no colonialism, the island was donated to the Portuguese for 500 years, for having helped the emperor at the time in internal revolts, destined for trade by the Portuguese with Europe and other places
The HK taxi didn’t charge you extra . They advanced the tunnel fee for you between the HK and Kowloon islands ( back and forth) . It’s equivalent to the toll fee in the state.
All the taxi will list the fee schedule including all extra fees, such as luggage and pets, highways , mountain tunnels or crossed harbour tunnels fees on the both sides of the doors with a yellow stickers. Upon arrival, the metre will show you the final journey fare , then the total with extra money after the driver pressed "11111" showing you total lumpsum. You were having 2 cases, right? So 10$ should be correct for 2 pieces. It;s fair. HAPPY and Beautiful Macau trip......❤🧡💛
I think u stayed on the hk side of town, then u crossed over to the kowloon side. before end of 2023, if u take the cross harbour tunnel to kowloon side, it s a surcharge of hkd10.
Barra does not mean “beach”, that would be praia. Barra means “neighbourhood” in Portuguese, Not exactly sure what this sign is pointing to since the Chinese characters roughly translate to “mothers chambers” …
Cool! An alternative translation for the Portuguese word “Barra” is “girder” or “timber” so that solves it. Along with the Chinese characters if the Cantonese translation is “dock, wharf or pier” Man I love learning language nuance.
