Macau, the casino capital of the world! Join me on the journey from Hong Kong to Macau!
Right next to Hong Kong is Macau, which is also a special administrative region of China. It's quite easy to get from Hong Kong to Macau. You can either take the ferry or the bus (or a helicopter). Join me as we jump on one of the ferries to take the one hour journey over to Macau, the casino capital of Asia. Actually of the world: The casinos in Macau generate 7x more revenue than the ones in Las Vegas. When I heard that number I was quite impressed. I have been to Las Vegas many many years ago, so I was curious to see if Macau is similar. And yes it is! Join me as we have a look around the famous casino strip, but also trying to find some local food. Let's check out Macau!

I am Ken Abroad, a full-time traveler traveling southeast Asia, east Asia and south Asia. It is my goal here on the channel to visit every country in these Asian regions and bring you along the journey.
You won’t see many tourist places in my videos, I rather like to show the “real” sides of each country in my videos. Where do the local people go to eat? Where do they hang out? How do the locals travel through the country? Stuff like that.

Sorry to correct you bro, but I believe gambling was legalised in Portuguese administered Macau🇵🇹 🇲🇴 in the late 19th century (to rival it’s former sister colony British 🇬🇧 HK’s economy), not the 1960s, as you have stated in this video. Also the largest contingent of tourists who visit Macau are as you said in this video or another that they’re mostly Mainland Chinese 🇨🇳. It’s worth mentioning that a large proportion of Macau’s casino tourists are Hong Kongers 🇭🇰 !!
@fatdoi003

Ken you can also take 45min shuttle bus from HK to Macau.... crossing the bridge is more spectacular than riding in a ferry and much cheaper

Time truly flies. Back when I was studying in Macau, the city was divided into three distinctive parts. 🤣 I make it a point to visit Macau every time I return to China, and it's remarkable how much the city has transformed over the years.

I am a local HongKonger but your video is very enjoyable - you really try to explore the city and its culture in depth! Language tips for Cantonese - There are two ways saying “thank you”. The one you use often - “Dor Che” - is more for saying thank you when people give you a gift. You can say “Ng Goi” when you want to thank people for their help (e.g. doing something nice, answer your enquiries, or just to everyone who provide you with services in general.) “Ng Goi” can also be used like “Excuse me / sorry” when you ask for someone’s attention. It’s very common for non native speakers to confuse these two terms but do please try using them in HK and Macau! Viel Spass!

I'm curious that there are so many monitors on the ceiling, so will the cards you get be seen? The most unique and famous dessert in Macau is the cubilose/ bird's nest egg tart. Have you ever tried it? Thank you for taking us on a tour of Macau and look forward to seeing you again in a few years! 👍🥰🙏

They are very advanced cameras. They can zoom in on the cards. Casino security is very strict. They also keep an eye out for dealers paying losing hands, players pulling back chips after seeing their cards and lots of other tricks.

Reminded me of my trip from Hong Kong to Macau. They will gladly take your HK$$, but back in HK they will very politely hand back your Macanese Patacas. Great job pointing out the remnants of its Portuguese history. It is literally just the public signage. They are able to claim ties to other former colonies of Portugal. I TOO saw very few westerners during my stay. Very much mainland tourists fill it up. My first night had Ladyboy dancers on the main bar at my hotel Casino. It was very surreal there. Great Job!

Macau! How wonderful. Looks like you are already having a wonderful time. Definitely a place that is very much tied to HK. In my parents' generation, Macau was the only place HKers could travel to if they wanted to leave HK without getting on a plane. If not already on your radar: 1) check out old Tai Pa Village ("Tum Chai" 氹仔). It's already "over-touristed", but you can walk around the small streets off-hours and imagine how amazingly cool it was about 20 years ago without the tourists and the tall buildings. 2) Get some pastel de natas! Similar to the HK egg tart, but with Portuguese ancestry. 3) Beef jerky. Macau is famous for their jerked meat. 4) Fusion food? I haven't had much of the fusion food, but I did find bacalhau fried rice super interesting (albeit like your pork chop bun, it was a little bland). Also, although the guy translated it as for stomach aches, the tea that you had, "祛濕茶", is for expelling "wetness", which is one of the external factors in Chinese medicine that can introduce certain illnesses, including stomach aches. Ridding yourself of extra "wetness" helps balance your body.

So much fun to see you review new places! I haven't been to Macau for nearly 20 years. When I was there, there were not as many casinos but we did play the slots in one. And I remember the ruins of St. Paul's Church. The best part was walking the local shopping street with food stalls. Macau was where I first tasted pastel de nata (egg custard tart).

Btw I’m from Macau, I was born and raised there. A better hotel may be Artyzen/Grand Lapa(But I have no idea what are the prices lol)For the next time you come to Macau, you must try some local food like 小籠包which are soup dumplings . One local place to go:高士德, it’s in my opinion the core of Macau. All the best in other countries 😁

There are lots of delicious and authentic food in Macau, and I had fun with slot machine in Casino too, its fun! Hope you enjoy it! When we feel a little bit sick and uncomfortable, we Chinese would drink that kind of herbal tea. Hope it can help to relieve the sick feeling or stop to getting worse.

I just visited Macau for the very first time week before last! My family lives in HK and I'm from the UK and visit HK every other year but like I said, first time I have stepped foot in Macau. Interesting place, didn't get to explore much this time around as only stayed for one night. Passed the tea stand stall you drank at, I took a picture as it looked interesting - almost like a sight from the past. Will be interested to visit again in the future, perhaps via the ferry ride - we took the golden bus this time around on Easter Monday that was some journey! 😅(queues took up most of our journey time)

Ken, Hong Kong is well known to be a food paradise in Asia. Here, you can taste a wide range of delicious and exquisite food that are ethnically Cantonese. You should try their dim sums which is known to be very good. Besides the milk pudding, you should try their Portuguese egg tart which is Macau's signature pastry dish. Keep exploring Hongkong food scene. You will be surprised!

Old colonial building, old mosaic tiles as well.... especially in the daytime.... buzzing with life and activities.....Ahhh.. Pork chop buns and Portugese Egg Tarts.... Can't missed those!! Further up along the whole stretch of the road.... is the Ruin of St. Paul.. Yup, usually packed with tourists..... Ya know, after living in Thailand and somewhat in M'sia, these HK and Macau prices are ridiculous. Macau Dollar 94 for 2 milk pudding and one pork bun, that's extortion... but imagine the cost of living there... You shld spend more time in M'sia and Thailand. Safe and relatively cheap. And those aren't really Tea perse', they're herbal tea, made of herbs and supposedly relieve heatiness.
