Check out the first official upgrade from Arrma for the Granite Grom! These Steel CVDS and Stub axles with Aluminum hexes a very nice upgrade from stock!
Im getting myself one of these for Christmas 🎄 id love to see a supersize granite too! Its such a fun car. I LOVE these small rc cars too - really a lot of fun for the $$
Yeah I'm not even sure when these upgrades will be available again. I managed to order all of them when they were listed on the site for like 30 minutes and they seem to be shipping them to me piecemeal.
@DoRC lucky you! I feel the biggest weakness are the outdrives on the diffs. I broke the exact same one that you did lol. Vitavon has already came out with knuckles and hubs for this truck, so hopefully the aftermarket companies can catch on quickly too.
What’s the diff upgrades you speak of? Steel instead of plastic ? I just read the new LMT. Diffs aren’t tunable , I don’t see how so because it looks like standard Losi diff the miniature
@RcPlayer-tt2vw I believe so. They're going to have steel out drives and I'm imagining the gears inside will be still. They will also be sealed. I looked at the exploded view of the mini LMT and it appears as though it actually uses the axle housing as the diff housing which is probably why they're not tunable. The gears mount directly inside the axle housing
Sweet brother an those still are not listed on the website the servo mount is available but most everything is pre order or back order expect parts that say next shipment date of January
Yeah I really don't know why I got these. I ordered everything at once when they were all listed on Horizon site right when the truck came out and they sent me the mount early and then they sent me this today. It's not like I have any special deal with them or anything. They don't even know who I am.
@@DoRC I agree my son was letting his 3yr old jump it off the ramp I have a short of it her landing on throttle destroyed the plastic inner gears an horizon says January so hope the upgrades come soon I plan on fully decking mine out with ARRMA hop ups… side note we got gifted a 3d printer last week nothing super special a ender 3 pro but for only paying 40$ shipping an gave us 3 full spools easy way to start learning to see if we want to continue will be printing that servo mount this week
@RC4us Nice! That was the first 3D printer I started with. If you have any questions you can hit me up on here or email me or on Facebook. I've been 3D printing very regularly for about 4 years now.
I hope they release a brushless version with the upgrades. By the time you buy one and strip it down that thing will cost as much as a full size granite
Yeah but that would be a stock full size granite. By the time you buy a stock full size granite and upgrade it then it would cost as much as a Max and by the time you upgrade a max it would be as much as a sledge and by the time You upgrade a sledge it would be as much as an XRT :-) Ultimately it's an expensive hobby and upgrading is not a profitable endeavor but it's still fun!
They are extras. I believe originally the kid wasn't going to come with the axle shafts and you were going to have to assemble it yourself. My guess is that they decided that would be too complex and never removed the pins after making that decision.
Unfortunately just like when I released the brushless upgrade with that ESC adapter this does not appear to be available currently. I ordered all of this stuff at the same time when they had it all listed on their site for like 10 minutes right after the car came out and for some reason they're sending it to me one piece at a time seemingly before general release. I don't know why because I don't have any kind of special relationship with them or anything. I don't even think Horizon knows who I am.
@@DoRC Im literally about to call another hobby shop tomorrow and see if they have any more.I bought the last one locally. I need 2 of these things. SO FUN to mess around with in the house!
Maybe though with the stock power system the standard chassis components seem pretty darn durable. I did damage a differential but that was when I was literally trying to break it on 3S.
Nice! Yeah mod .5 pinions are not super easy to come by. Fortunately the aftermarket will almost certainly pick up the slack. I saw vitavon already has hubs and knuckles available for the Grom. That's going to be one of the biggest advantages of this car is that you'll be able to really upgrade it unlike a lot of the other little cars out there.
Unfortunately they're not available yet. I managed to order all of the upgrade parts when Horizon accidentally had them listed for like 10 minutes on their site. They sent me these the other day. I really have no idea why.
So when the car first came out Horizon accidentally listed all of the upgrade parts. In that 10 minute window that they had them listed I managed to order all of them and for some odd reason they sent me these. I have no idea why and this is all they sent me even though I ordered everything that they are making for it. It's not like I have any special deal with them. I don't even think they know who I am.
Yeah I ordered the upgrades when they were listed on the Horizon site for like 10 minutes when the truck was originally announced. I have no idea why they sent me these without actually listing them. It's not like they knew who I am or anything. I don't think anyway.
Sure wish I could get one of these amain hobbies says it won't be available until January 1st. Should of known better should of grabbed one the second it was available. Have not been happy with the MJX Hyper Go 14210 l have l have a jump similar to yours in my yard and l break something every time I run it. I broke the shock tower bracket that holds the upper a arm and the gearbox bracket as well. Can't find the upper gearbox case anywhere but Ali express so the truck will be down for at least 2 weeks. Not at all happy about that. Everybody swears how tough the MJX Hyper Go 14210 is. I can't tell.
Could have just been luck of the draw or they could be inconsistent quality. Mine has been pretty durable but I've had mixed experiences over the years with various cars of similar type.
Id wait and tackle the plastic gears in the diffs first. Then i would swap the shitty shocks for some hot racing for the teton. Id put 30k in the diffs since the crap grease thins out making it open diff. Car needs gone through and tightened up but a fun car.
Yes I think that the differential upgrade will be the most important one It's just not out yet. Arrma is also releasing upgraded aluminum threaded shocks. That being said what specific issue have you had with the stock ones? Mine have been working pretty well.
@@DoRC i got 2 lazy builds. Shocks bodies were stripped, input cups were stripped. Looking at their plans for parts i doubt metal gears for the diffs will come out. Might end up being a 3rd party deal.
@dirtybauer7022 upgraded differentials are already happening. I ordered mine at the same time as I ordered the rest of the stuff. If you look at them they have steel output cups and the differential housing is the standard style as opposed to being the split style of the stock ones. I don't think they would do all of that and still leave plastic gears inside. Especially not for the price.
@@DoRC i'll have to recheck. Hobbytown dont have anything listed just yet so i was looking at horizon. Then again my region of the US might not have parts availability just yet. We dont even have spare batteries in ic2.
Sorry I might have been ambiguous there. What I meant was that the upgraded differentials are going to happen. They are listed on the site and they are part of the bunch of upgrades that I was able to buy when the car first came out but haven't arrived yet. They aren't currently available for purchase though. That being said you can look at the render of them and tell that they aren't the same differential housing as the stock ones. As far as I know what's inside is still a mystery but I do know that the output cuffs are going to be steel and like I said it would be really strange if they stuck plastic gears in those differentials. Who knows maybe Horizon will send me those next. If they do they'll be a video about them!
Did you also receive 6 pins, 4 of the same size (drive pins) and 2 smaller pins (extra pins for the cvds?) with yours? I can’t get the clamping wheel hex to go on the rear stub axles to save my life. I’m pretty sure the rear axles were machined wrong, like tapped poorly. As it appears as though, the drive pin does not line up with the slot in the wheel hex, so it won’t fully index and seat. I contacted Horizon and they are investigating it.
Yes. I did receive extra pins for the CVDs. My guess is that they originally were planning on just including the new axle shafts but then decided that it would be too much to ask people to disassemble and reassemble the CVDs and no one thought to take the pins back out of the BOM. One of my hexes was a little bit tight going on to the pin. There was a small burr inside the slot. I just took a hobby knife and got rid of the burr and it fit perfectly after that. Have you tried putting the pins in the hex slots without them in the shaft?
That makes sense, what you said about the extra pins. I have tried that, and without them inside the shaft, the pins go into the slot perfectly. I think the rear axles are the issue. Visually, looking into the tap on them, it doesn’t look straight to me 🤷🏻♂️
It really is good. The 16889 pro is a better deal out of the box because of what you get but this thing walks all over it in quality, ease of repair and most importantly to me handling. All of the Amazon special cars have so much slop in everything that once you get over a certain speed they're basically uncontrollable. This car is smaller yet handles better than those cars do. It's definitely worth getting.
And, I’m sure this is leading up to a brushless model by Christmas probably or early Winter… You didn’t think the HPX handled awesome!!!??? I haven’t ran mine in over a year and I was probably so blown away with the ridiculous durability that the handling didn’t mean as much to me but I remember the handling still been really good for 16 scale. The 18 scale HBX I hated. Just donuts.
@williamperri3437 ehh. It's okay for and Amazon special car but once you drive something that is really put together well like the Grom or 14MT It makes driving HBX style cars feel like a lesson in frustration especially at higher speeds.
@@DoRC I keep forgetting about the Reflex MT. I’ve had the reflex 14 B since 2019 and it’s probably my favorite mini of all time. In fact, it’s probably in my top 10 of all time and I’ve got Tekno, Mugen, Losi, Arrma, and SERPENT. I love the Reflex 14b with a simple wheel change and it’s my only RC where the motor mesh is adjusted by turning the motor. The Mount has teeth and you turn it in one direction to tighten it and the opposite to loosen the mesh. I also love how quiet and smooth it is. I can run it around the neighborhood at 2 AM while I walk my dog. So good! I’ve also got the Losi mini 8 DB and the wheels are great. I bought a bunch of them before they discontinued them so I can put them on other small scale rigs.
I have no idea. Based on the upgrade parts they're offering I get the feeling will be seeing an EXB version in the future. It would be surprising if that EXV version wasn't brushless but I don't have any actual information on that.
Yes. All of the upgrades will fit the typhon Grom. The shocks will need the springs swapped over as the typhon uses shorter springs but other than that it's all directly compatible
I ordered all of the upgrades in a 10 minute window when they were available on the Horizon website. They've since been taking down. They shipped these to me and I have no idea why. It's not like I have a special relationship with them or anything. I don't even think they knew who I am.
@@DoRCthat’s weird , I wonder if they realized they didn’t have inventory or just marketing figures if we upgraded we wouldn’t buy new rcs like the mini LMT , cool pliars , I wish knipex made some miniature tools 🧰
@politie_jip1123 sounds like a design flaw. The chassis was probably designed for smaller tires. Normally you want the chassis to slap because that prevents the shocks and shock towers from having to take all of that load.
@politie_jip1123 Yeah in the case of these little cars it's probably not that big of a deal but generally speaking RC cars are designed so that the chassis hits before the shocks bottom out.
Unfortunately it appears as though they're not available yet. I ordered this as well as all the other upgrade parts when they were listed on Horizon site for a brief time I'm in the car first came out and they just sent me these. I don't know why.
@tizrc1358 Yeah it's cool to get something first for once. I live on the other side of the country from Horizon so I usually get pre-ordered stuff last. Thanks for watching!
@@DoRC I was thoroughly surprised at the air time and it looks like you had pretty darn good control for such a little truck!! I can only imagine we’re gonna be seeing people with $2000 Groms pretty soon with all the upgrades coming Lol😂 the bumper looks really good btw
Upgrades often don't really make practical financial sense. I've spent more on upgrades on plenty of vehicles then they cost new. That being said for many including myself upgrading is part of the hobby and hobbies rarely makes sense from a purely financial standpoint.
@@DoRC lm upgrading my talion v3 and kraton v4 and im loving every minute ... so yes, for me its just as much about the time spent in my basement upgrading as it is out with the rigs. Its prob because the rig itself wasnt that exspensive... l ordered the truck yesterday and it should be here tomorrow.. thx for vids mate..
