The thing that makes these cars so iconic to me is the fact that they are based off of the 2 most famous Gymkhana cars in the world (The Hoonicorn (which is the Felony) and the Hoonitruck (the Infraction) RIP Ken Block.
Hey Michael let me just say that I just got my felony about a week ago and I love it and this is exactly the type of video I was looking for to get a brief explanation about Getting to know my car even more, Thanks a lot. Now That's the way your supposed to review.
I have an Infraction 6s and 3s blx, I figured they left the wing clear and huge so each customer could tailor it to their taste. Trimmed my 3s and then used blasted gold plastidip on the inside. Matched really well and I can peel it off to change color anytime.
I use plasti dip all the time and for some weird reason didn't even think about using it on the Infraction I just got the other day. Thanks for the reminder!
Nice video. I don't know about the Infraction splitter, but the Felony splitter is Lexan, not plastic. Which is a good thing for flexibility. I've never driven an Infraction, but let me tell you the first upgrade i made to my Felony was removing the GP6 rear diff and input gear and dropping in a GP5 diff and input gear. Tired of paying extra for oversized Hoons. Tired of not being able to rotate my tires for even wear. Tired of not having options for different tires in the rear. Tired of paying $20 a tire for tires that last 2 runs on 4s. Now that I've got that out of my system: I love my Felony and I run GRP XM7 tires all day long, which last longer and cost much less. PS: 5:37 there is a reason the camera person is behind the driver. With battery, the Felony is around 15 pounds. Tré dangerous.
Thanks! Personally, I think I'd choose the Felony. I really like the muscle car body style. But I might want to add the Infraction's handbrake feature!
It has no problem breaking traction even on 50% power, so I think harder rubber might actually make it more difficult to control. If you want a car that's easy to drift, I would check out the Losi V100 touring car. It's a lot smaller, but it's more suited to controlled slides and precision driving.
So the e brake on the infraction. A few questions. Does it only affect the rear tires? Can you still brake with your normal esc braking power? I guess the question should be is the manual brake on a 3rd channel and like an e brake for drift porpoises?
Yes to all three. The handbrake is controlled by the third channel button, and it does only affect the rear wheels. The ESC is the same as the Felony, so you can still use the normal ESC brake. The handbrake is intended mostly for drifting, although you can use it at the same time as the ESC brake to stop quicker.
Thanks Michael .. question If you have felony.. do you go for the infraction also same to me the is mechanical physic different with the both like the tires as you say and the hand brakes
I didn't buy either one myself. If I did, I would probably go for the Infraction, mostly because of the handbrake but also because all four wheels are the same size, so I could try different tires and bodies. Apart from the rear axle gearing and the handbrake, the two cars are mechanically identical.
Thanks It’s the same here because felony you need to change many things even if you upgrade the motor but infraction the mostly plug and play like the tires as you say agree with you for all thanks again for you answered my question thanks it’s help a-lot
Thanks! The bodies cannot be directly swapped without also swapping a lot of other parts. The mounting post heights are different, as are the bumpers, and the Felony's larger rear wheels would get in the way.
So the infraction is the better bang for buck? You get the handbrake and same size tires so replacing them is cheaper and easier. Both are the exact same performance wise. The only positive aspect of the fellony is the looks? I get anything wrong?
Yep, that's all correct. For some, the Felony's looks may be worth it, but especially if you plan to change the body at some point, the Infraction seems to be the better choice for most.
@@assnapkined9295 Believe it or not, that's the normal pronunciation in Canada! Americans say "dee-cal", but everyone I've ever met in Canada says "deckle".
looks great you did a great job and I just got mine in orange from horizon for $649. thanks for the share and gave you sub and like to see more from you!!
great job my friend just found you on RU-vid didnt know you sold the product so I will check you out in the future. hope to have you as a subscriber bc I buy alot of rc and other products.
It's an old HPI body. The chassis was a mishmash of various parts. Although it was discontinued, I believe the body is now available again. It fits any standard 200mm road car chassis. We can special order it for you if you're located in Canada - send us an email at info@bchobbies.com.
Not very long, lol! The long-term owners we've talked to say they usually get 5 or 6 battery packs' worth of runtime out of each set of tires. After our test, the tires were visibly worn down on both cars.
Arrma offers 3 different tire compounds for the Felony, which should cover most owners' needs. Unless you have a preference for a specific tire made by another brand, I don't think aftermarket wheels are necessary.
I wouldn't do that - the ESC and motor aren't designed for that kind of voltage, and would probably burn out immediately. You might be able to cram a 6S brushless system into it, but a car that size would be very hard to control with that much power.
those tires are not just wider, but als larger. It will destroy the differential due to different rotation speeds. you'd need to also exchange the diff.
Do you think there is a reason why they rated there top speed to 80MPH and not 100MPH like the Traxxaa XO-1? The chassis is very similar to the XO-1 with the rear diffuser and wind channels?
It depends on where you plan to drive it. The Felony is fun, but it's kind of a one-trick pony. You really need a big open paved area to do anything with it. The Xmaxx is great because you can drive it pretty much anywhere, and it's also a lot more durable. That said, they're both awesome, so it's up to you.
what kind of flat open distance can you get for the controller? I have the Arrma 4WD stadium truck (1/10 SENTON 4X4 V3 3S BLX BRUSHLESS SHORT COURSE TRUCK RTR, RED) and can only manage roughly 400 feet with full battery on truck and full new batteries on controller.@@bchobbies
can anyone comment about the handling of the two? supposedly the infraction handles worlds better than the felony, because supposedly the felony suffers from major fishtailing?
In my experience, handling is pretty much the same for both. The chassis and weight distribution are nearly identical, so unless the camber and toe are adjusted differently, I don't see a reason why one would fishtail significantly more than the other. I did find the handbrake on the Infraction very useful, but aside from that, the driving experience is very similar.
Amazing Review!!! Very Informative and to the Point! For the Felony, any tips on how to maintain a controlled drift? How to bash responsibility? Thanks
Thanks! It's mostly a matter of practice. The Felony handles similarly to most AWD on-road R/C cars, just bigger and with more momentum. The most important tip for these big cars is to look ahead and plan your stops well in advance, since it takes some distance to safely slow them down, as opposed to smaller R/C vehicles that can pretty much stop on a dime. Oh, and don't crash into yourself - I've learned that the hard way, lol.
@@bchobbies Late Response but thank you for the tips! I'll definitely keep that in mind! Also when drifting do you tap the brakes while doing so? Does the stability control work well? Does the motor overheat while going full speed?
@@wolfboy20 Since it's an AWD car, tapping the brakes isn't the ideal way to start a drift. The easiest method is just to turn in and then give it a quick burst of throttle. The stability control is a matter of personal taste. All it does is automatically countersteer when the car is sliding. You'll want to adjust it until you're happy with how it handles - all the way off and it'll spin out easily, all the way on and it'll be difficult to drift. We didn't run it for long enough to find out whether the motor would overheat, but I've talked to quite a few owners and no one has brought up that issue, so I don't think it's a major problem.
@@bchobbies alright! That's all good to know! Thank you once again!! I can't wait to see how it handles and performs when I finally get it eventually! 😃
@@tktk-om8cg If you don't care which body you get, I would be inclined to go with the Infraction. You get the handbrake feature, and all the tires are the same size, so you can run aftermarket wheels if you want.
@@tippedbacktj8492 Theoretically, I don't see why not. I'm surprised they didn't do that from the factory. There may be some reason I'm unaware of, but it could probably be made to work.
Yes, the felony and infraction are nice cars, but I think it’s time for the company to build a bigger and better version. I would really love to see a bigger model tearing up the road! 😉
The gearing is also different because of the Felony's larger rear wheels, and only the Infraction has the handbrake feature, but yes, other than that they're mechanically the same.
Most modern R/C cars are designed to take a few hits. These two are more focused on pure speed, so durability suffers a bit. If you want something really sturdy, check out the Traxxas Maxx - it's as close to indestructible as R/C cars get.
I think for the money and 1/8th scale; the Traxxas X0-1 is the car to buy for 750 American. 1,000 dollars is insane for a toy car. That's crazy. The Traxxas will go 100 mph and is wind tunnel tested. It has a motor the size of a coffee can and also has a gyro in it. The X0-1 is by far, the car to buy. Sorry. In my opinion, even 750 for the Traxxas is insane. Red Cat is very wise to stay out of it and not make one at all. They know they wouldn't sell very many. Besides, you can easily soup up a 10th scale Red Cat Lightning and hit 100. I have 5 all custom Lightnings that will. And I added gyro's to them, which keeps them on the road. And they handle a lot better than those huge heavy things. Those things can't even find their feet. Tell me I'm wrong.
The prices mentioned in the video are in Canadian dollars. The Felony and Infraction are $650 US each. Also, having driven and worked on both, the Infraction/Felony and the XO-1 are two very different vehicles. The Arrma 6S platform handles much better and is able to drift, while the XO-1 is designed purely for straight-line speed runs, and tends to just spin out if you try to take a corner at speed. It's also a much older platform. I usually tend to prefer Traxxas over Arrma, but in this case, I think the Infraction/Felony is just a better designed and engineered vehicle for most purposes. (The Arrma electronics do have a gyro as well - that's what the AVC is.) As for souping up 1/10 scale cars, yes, that's another option and there are lots of good 1/10 road car platforms. However, we don't usually see people cross-shopping 1/10 scale cars with the huge 1/7 scale ones. They're just two different markets.
