When I bought my senton BLX I saw this video beforehand. So when it arrived I checked for the slop, it was there but very subtle. So, I ran it a few times and heard that familiar rapid clicking sound of a bearing out of whack. Cracked open the motor, noticed a lot of dirt inside the can after just a couple packs. Cleaned it out, used the exact same bearings you have in the video, and not only did it cure the issue beyond expectations, but I swear the Senton was also running a little faster as way less heat developed as well. I also went ahead and sealed the holes in the can with gorilla tape. I know that probably causes it to hold a bit more heat but it also keeps dirt out since I really run my senton very hard. It's been perfect ever since. So anyways, great video, it saved me a lot of headaches and hopefully many others as well. This video actually made me subscribe. I've said it before, I learn quite a bit watching you and it helps me on my own videos as well. Thank a million, you're the man.
Honestly, horizon has never put out a product that doesn’t have issues. Just my experience. Everything they sell needs some sort of upgrading just to use…
I know now whats making the power module fail. Its the slipper clutch assembly slop who rubs on the back of the power module cassing thats what black powder of death is and whats causing the majority of the problems with the module itself. Shim it woth shims i think the 6s diff shims fit perfectly in there
Time to go ahead and order replacement bearings. 3s Typhon already got a new motor. Granite and new Big Rock I'm sure will be close behind. Will be fun to see if the chassis hole helps with the dirt issues under the power module. New grass looking awesome man ! Thanks for the video !
Someone said it too! You have to roll the rear wheels more, the slots weren't lining up. No hammer🤦♂️ Same bearings for my son's Granite should Wednesday. The truck hasn't been run nearly as hard as yours.
I had this happen to both my 3s Typhon and my 4s Kraton. I ended up getting high quality bearings from Plague, they are ceramic, sealed and have a high heat rating. Definitely worth doing before you have problems.
I have owned a least a dozen arrma cars. Mostly 3s. Every single motor I have the bearings locked up quickly! I didn't even try horizon service. I just assumed they wouldn't cover it. I've just become a pro at getting out what's left of the bearing. Air hammer with a slightly bent chisel bit! Good luck. I bought the same pack of bearings you did. They been working for a couple months with no problems. Bad part is, I don't remember what motor I put them in!
My motors always been fine only the motor mount had problems but bought a high quality motor mount from (customrcupgrades) and hasn’t bent since after some serious bashing.
You know what kind of tea,( Long Island tea) I gotta Senton too🤣 Had to upgrade the axle shafts the shocks , put on 17 mm wheels 6 packSC Now it looks like I'm gonna have to buy bearings.$$$ Thanks horizon hobbies.
My esc in my arrma granitw blx just melted and im still waiting to hear back from hoizonhobby, its been 3 days. Only 7 months old, I should probably check the motor now.
Thank god traxxas didn’t run me through the wringer when I also had 2 packs through my e revo 2.0 motor. Got it replaced and it’s been mint for over a year 😁
I have a Traxxas 4x4 Fiesta Rally Roller and thinking about buying a new Specktrum BLX100 ESC 3660 3200KV motor combo for $85 do you think buying these bearings for another $15 and fixing the motor straight out is a good deal? Or should I look at Hobbywing EZRun MAX10 SCT Sensorless Brushless ESC/3660SL 3200kV Motor Combo for $140? Or Castle Creations SW4 3800kv combo for $130? Velineon is too expensive... This roller will be for asphault mostly. Thanks bud you're an RC genious hope you can help my decision asap
Yip.. There are zero Spectrum components in either my Senton or Big Rock... The ESCs lasted around 6 weeks (first wet run), the BR servo went after about a fortnight & the Senton's maybe 2 months. Both transmitters are buggered too, steering return spring on one & the steering trim knob on the other.! So yeah.. Arrma tough, Spectrum definitely NOT tough... Or even just mildly durable.! Cheap 25kg servo's, Dumbo RX & Surpass 3665 Rocket motors. I'll give the motors a pass for burning up since I did regularly run them on 4S. And finally, I've fitted a Surpass 120A & a Hobbywing WR SC8 120A esc in them. They're both mega reliable & near indestructible now.!!.. Errrr.. Well apart from the bloody cheddar cheese diffs.! 😜 Stay safe out there RC Guy & best wishes from Scotland 🏴 👍👍🏻👍🏾👌🏽
@@rcguygarage Thanks, I managed to get it off but I marred up the metal end of the motor a bit prying off the bearing. Got some of the bearing grease on the motor too. Thinking I should just replace it at this point. Any direct replacements for the senton blx that doesn't require replacing a bunch of other parts?
the losi tenacity TT PRO is the best handling 1/10 scale SCT if you love the tenacity it based from that chassis little monster with a center diff and light bar from the box
I just threw in a spektrum 1900kv 4s motor combo in my big rock/kraton the fkn motor is HUGE!!! Trb bearings and you’ll never have to worry about those motors 🤪
The New Spectrum electronics that are coming in the revised Arrma 3s & 6s lines are failing quite a bit. I believe the BLX systems that came previously are more reliable. My Typhon has the BLX system and I have had it now over a year, no problems. It's a drag Horizon is giving you hassle on returning your motor. The bearings are a nice upgrade, but on a New motor??? Hey sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do!!! Stay safe and bash on from Colorado!!!
I know old video, but may help someone. The reason the metal motor plate is like that is for pinion install. Put your motor on, then pinion and tighten it down. Then screw the aluminum plate to the rest of the motor mount and adjust your pinion spacing.
Guy I know you have one, have you thought about the Losi Tenacity dB Pro having a 3150kv motor in it? I’ve only ran twice so far with no issues but I’m wondering if the motor bearings will do the same thing with that motor????
It wont b like all rc with metal chassis theirs a hole under tbe spur which if u put that type of hole in a 3s/4s chassis it allows the dirt to get out b4 getting in tbe motor thrashing bearings... like venting a tire on outside where most factory tires are only on inside where water cant get out an Thrashs ur tire
I had to bang my armature out it was jammed. The bearing was blown apart, do you think the armature is still good? Also, after pulling it out there was a metal like shield there I think it was a side of the bearing. I posted a video on my RU-vid channel if you can take a look.
@@rcguygarage any tricks to get the inner bearing off. I’m sitting here with new bearing and I tried everything to get the old inner off. I even damaged side A little trying to pry with a screwdriver. I posted a video showing it. Thanks again
@@Wraith2003 I bought a new motor. Your message reminded me. I just went out and used an old vice locked it on inner bearing piece and tapped it out. You could use pliers or scissors under it use table for stability and bang out. I’m posting a video of me doing it
oh no, on the back part of your motor it went the washer first then the spacer, you put it on backwards! also the washer was flat the one you put in looked a little bent.
Yeah honestly it doesn't matter I mean it does but it doesn't really in reality to some extent but the flat washer is supposed to be bent It just provides tension and the spacer is just a way to space it away from the bearing 😂🤣
that looked like it was running smooth. Can i ask a question? have you researched if arrma started making a center differential gear for the 3s versions?> I know you can buy them for the the traxxas version like the rustler or stampede slash?
What would be great ffg or the 3s line would be tekno m6 driveshaft like they now have for the traxxas an tenacity lines I said I'd never own another traxxas after all my issues with my 1st one an now next to my big rock it's my favorite but not much stock left... an yes m.i.p are not even in the same class as these tekno m6 shafts...
@@mike-yc8bi I have heard the tekno driveshafts are basically top dog next to maybe Vitavon. I'll be eventually upgrading my shafts on my DB Pro to Tekno :)
@@mike-yc8bi ya the stuff your talking about is expensive im just trying to say wow arrma needs get that differential gear on all the 3s models so it can be a real car that drives not some box wheel base that has less handeling like a toy
I totaly get your thinking but both my 3s line I run with a 4s 120amp spektrum esc on 4s with a metal spur tighten that slipper up properly an maintenance it regularly an I've had zero issues with either of mine
I have a kaiju. I charge the battery n I ran it for like 20 min. Than stop 20min. Than hook it up agn n it only ran for 1min n it went off. Throttle wasn't working whn I pushed on it. N a green light came on on the ESC. Would my battery be the problem? Voltage ain't pushing threw. I had it sitting for 2 months. Maybe I need a new batter's. Please help...
@@curt-1927 idk what your specific issue is but again I have 3 3200kv spektrum motors that all run on 4s constantly since the v3 came I've not replaced or repaired or even had a single issue
It's definitely a poor quality motor. Mine lasted about 3 battery charges before exploding. Only thing I noticed in your vid is that you put the spring washer and spacer on the motor shaft incorrectly. The spacer washer Must go against the bearing race with the tapered end against the bearing. You will probably destroy the other bearing the way you put it in because you have the spring washer grinding against the bearing shield. :/
@@rcguygarage I ordered some metal shielded Abec 5 precision bearings instead of the utility spec Abec 3's. My motor had completely disintegrated the motor output side bearing internals, but I was able to get the left over outer bearing race out with no damage and no other issues. Just waiting for the new bearings now. This is something that will require some regular inspections and maintenance I guess. I'm more used to on-road racing and not having to deal with tons of dirt getting in everywhere. : )
Next will be metal spur/crown and inputs ! also i use scorched RC wheel wells to stop the rocks/twigs getting into the steering crank. I should of bought a mojave !
I cut a 1" slot in the bottom of my chassis so you can see the bottom of the spur gear. Just thin like the steel slipper. I drilled 2 hole then roto zipped in between. Let's everything fall out.
Guy, I dont get all ur problems with this motor I have 5 of them for over a year I love them an run all of them on 4s at that an I run them really hard... I've not have a single issue out of the motor I even put one in the db pro... I've only had horizon say no to 1 claim an it was a bad paint job on a 6s typhon but they've with out question... they have warranty my blx an firma Esc's 6s motors reciever ect... just needed a copy of my receipt an a few days later brand new at my door... I hope you start having better luck or figure out what your doing to destroy these motors... I've only ever seen 1 go bad but it was definitely because his mesh was to tight...
Right yes, BUT it's a known issue. Some of the communication isn't open to the public for personal reasons but they are VERY well aware of the bearings on this motor being an issue👍
im having problems with my motor to its a new 4300 kv with a 80a esc also new and after installing it it hesitates and cogs badly ive tried 2 new escs but same problem even tinkered with puch settings i got it allittle better but still cogs at startup only watcha think or anyone who sees this
You can tell when you're bearings are starting to lock up. When you hit a jump and try to do a backflip, pull the throttle and it just falls on its back. Or when you let off the throttle and the car drags.
@@rcguygarage Try a 1/16" instead, I find 1.5mm often is loose and results in me stripping the screws, and a 1/16" is just a tad larger(1.5875mm) and feels like a tight fit.
I replaced mine with a 5$ pack of skateboard bearings and its been great since i thrash on it too id rather spend 5 bucks then waste hours of my time thats just me tho. Sad when a 50 cent part fixes it and they cant do that they must get theres for 10 cent lol
Horizon is the worst I spent hundreds on parts that their website said would work, can't talk to anyone, oh and I bought 2 EXB 6 weeks ago and they still are not running you spend 1500 bucks times 2 and you can't even get a real answer and the hardware to put the things together.
@@rcguygarage I know I am still confused over all of this I love the trucks and was really hoping things would have went smooth but I tried more than enough times to let them help but they just won't and the final nail was when they told me "they decide who and when they call no matter how much a person buys" and that is a direct quote, but enough of my crying love the video man keep them coming.
@@rcguygarage why respond to this fool? This fix helps us people who own this setup...we appreciate you buying these cheaper products and showing us how to fix them 🙌🏽
HELLO GUY , HELLO ARE YOU THERE ? wake up and stop going on about your motor issue lol your not paying attention to what's going on in RC world GUY , The NEW LOSI TUNED ARRMA TYPHON , yes GUY an Arrma that you will take to your local track and be competitive with.
@@rcguygarage I think there trying to get those that bash into racing Guy? I feel its more of an entry leve l race buggy, a bit like Team Durango DNX8 buggy, so not for me as I already own a few race buggy kites including 3 Losi8, not sure what Horizion are trying to do with tge Arrma brand at the moment? Have a good day Guy and how long before your back yard track is finished lol
