Tierney is a prime example and reminder that we must stay away from injury prone players. Sell those we have eg Tierney /Jesus/Partey, and don't consider buying eg Neto. It's serious business in order to win trophies and theres no place for excess sentimentality... sadly

Easy to forget what a breath of fresh air Tierney was when we signed him. We were lacking leadership and steel, he brought that to the team. He was seen as a future captain for good reason in a side lacking leaders.

In my opinion, anyone who thinks the Aguero match is a better end to a season is insane! City played at home to QPR, a team that just avoided relegation, and went down to 10 men at 1-1. We played at Anfield against the reigning league champions, the dominant English team of the decade, and arguably the best team in Europe at the time. There is absolutely no question which was the better achievement, and the more exciting end to a season.

Both Tierney and ESR can be Captain of another club. They don’t have to stay as backup players. Arsenal players like Mbappe, Palmer, Luka Modric, Alphonso Davies, Eder Militao , John Stones, Federico Valverde, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Pedri, Nicolò Barella..

I was there with my Dad, he never went to away games but I convinced him we had a chance. Sadly he broke his ribs on the crush barriers when Thomas's goal hit the net. He was moaning and groaning, I said what are you moaning for we've just won the league. I've been to every cup final since 79 & hundreds of other games, but Anfield 89 is and will remain the best ever Arsenal moment of my life without doubt.

The two FA Cup gosls show that you don’t always need 20, 30 passes to building up good goal scoring chances, something we needed to learn in certain types of games.

I am suprised no one is talking about Kimmich. He got one year left off his deal and would be on a cheap. Good nr 2, 6 or 8. Winning mentality and ofc «if you cant beat em, join em». Only downside is that he is 29, but we dont really need to recoup money on him as he would be cheap. 3+1 yr deal and then we could sell him when he is 31 for a okey sum or run down his deal. I think he along with a striker and cover for saka could win us both the PL and CL in the next two years. Love the show, cheers from Norway

Hello Charles, You're absolutely right about Michael Thomas's moment, Charles. Left me give you a bit my story about that moment, i was a 10 years old kid and it was my second day in England me and my family, i remember it was night i can't remember the day, my first game to watch in England it was that one. I couldn't understand English. i remember Thomas scoring the second goal. Everyone was going mad after Thomas scoring. I didn't understand at the time Arsenal had to score two goals to win the title. i remember after he scored, everyone was going crazy. That game was a reason for me being an Arsenal supporter from that day. Also, remember Frank Bruno HP advertised all the time. I remember really loving that advertisement.

I think bringing him back will be a good idea, specially if we plan to sell Zinchenko. As long as Tierney is happy to be second or third option I can see him as a good back up. Could be the new Rob Holding type of substitute that can come in and close out a 1-0 victory.

Good afternoon Charles thanks for a brilliant show. For the money we will get for Kiren Tierney. I think keeping him is the best option considering we now inverting on the right. He’s good cover at left back and centre back who we know is very sound defensively if we need a left back to invert we now have timber. And it saves us having to go into the market for a defender in the summer thanks for all your hard work regards Chris.

Hi Charles, regarding Vincent Kompany; I think you are missing the forest for the trees. I would go out on a limb to say that he has more experience under his belt than Arteta and Alonso were when they were appointed by Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen respectively. Hello Charles, Thanks for the great content. Combining some things you were saying in the last shows, I was thinking, that selling ESR and loaning out Vieira in the summer could be a good idea. ESR isn't trusted enough by Mikel could command a decent fee, Vieira doesn't have the market, and wouldn't get many offers this summer. A good loan could do him and Arsenal a world of good. As replacements we surely need one 8 who Arteta really trusts and can rotate/start with Odegaard and giving the other spot to Nwaneri to have the kind of minutes ESR and Vieira were having and giving him the pathway he needs. Do you think it's enough cover or should at least one of ESR and Vieira be kept?
@INHeadKay
@INHeadKay Месяц назад
Charles, on ESR and homegrown. I think its good for football when you consider that teams are now incentivised to produce football talent. So its good for the game just not good for fans of a team who get emotionally attached to a player. But the sport grows. I do however think we need to consider that Arsenal have two more UCL games (and tougher opponents throughout) and we need to win a domestic cup. We need a squad. Selling should only be for reinvestment IMO.

Hi Charles, Arteta falling out of love with Smith-Rowe is such a strange one. I can't help but wonder whether players who are dribblers... end up in worse defensive positions when they lose the ball (where as players who pass the ball recover into position quicker). I agree with TNAT's comment that he is probably a LW. Not as intense as Martinelli or as clinical as Trossard unfortunately. How about a Tomiyasu-like contract extension and a season on loan to Palace. Who knows Palace might get into the top 4 after all.

Loan out ESR10! Vieira cannot be sold! We must loan them out to an PL team where they can play more games. They’re amazingly talented young players! This Arsenal team progressed so quickly people now forget just how good these boys are and that they were only affected by injuries to keep progressing with the rest of the team. If we sell now anyway, we’re not gonna get value. But a loan offers the chances to both raise value and also to unlock their potential through the rehabilitation of regular games weekly. Then the options are open afterwards.

Perhaps there are clubs in the Bundesliga who look for a left-back. There are no strong links yet at all. While fit he is definitely worth more than the current €12m value suggests. Hey Charles, great work as always. I think there might be something overlooked by everyone for this summers transfer window. People are saying players like Nketiah, Reiss, Ramsdale and ESR are going to be, or should be, sold. But if they all are, we won't have enough players on the books to fulfill the 8 players of the "Homegrown Rule". I believe we only have 11 homegrown in the squad at the moment, which means unless we buy another homegrown (Or if an under 21 comes of age and enters the squad), not all of those players can be sold. So maybe one, or more of them will stay for next season? What are your thoughts on this?

@@kunimitsune177 You CAN'T have more than 17 non-homegrown players in a 25 man premier league squad, of which we had a full 25 registered this past season. Saying it like we NEED 8 homegrown players is basically the same thing because we want a full squad right? I know we are letting some other players go already, but that is probably with the presumption that we will be getting more in to fill those spots with better quality, and probably ones that are not homegrown to be honest. We still need to keep that homegrown tally for next season if we are to have a full squad though. Of course there is always the possibility that we might not have a full squad,. There are a few truths here. (1) Tierney is the best leftback in the PL and the ONLY leftback at Arsenal. (2) Arteta refuses to play with a leftback, and so the team has been targeted on the left, and therefore came up on the short end of two league title races. Lost by 4 and 2 points respectively. (3) Arteta doubled and tipped down this last season. Not only refusing to play a leftback for the whole season by loaning Tierney out, but also he refused to play a center-forward for the whole season, and a midfielder for half the season. He played Havertz instead, who is neither a center-forward nor central midfielder. Do the math. A whole season with two positions without specialists. We've come second twice. Now Arsenal fans think it's a great idea for Arteta to keep Havertz and Vieira, while selling ESR, Nketiah, and Tierney...the three team positions we've neglected between the last two seasons and came short on the title because of it. Add right-winger into that equation because Arteta prefers to play Saka with a broken ankle than to give Reiss Nelson valuable minutes. The problem is Arteta, not the players. There is no doubt that Arteta is going to be a great manager, but expect to be in the top four but not win anything. He needs to learn to use the whole squad, substitute, rotate, and play specialists in position if he will win trophies.

I am thinking that selling home grown talent could also have a first buy back clause in with their sales and so giving the player the incentive to be a success at their new club and so consequently, wanted to be brought back into the family at a latter date.

As much as I’d rather keep ESR, it’s actually more frustrating to have him and watch him rot on the bench, so I’d rather he went elsewhere and shows what he can do when he gets a run of games.

For me, Vieira just isn't working out for us, he's not physically big enough to handle the PL in my opinion, so I'd rather sell him than ESR who really hasn't done anything wrong, yes he's had his groin injuries but he went from that fantastic season 2 years ago to not getting a look in ever since, if it were me I'd move Martinelli over to the right wing to allow Saka to get more rest and ESR and Trossard could rotate on the left wing.

Maybe I’ll be wrong but if we sell ESR and keep Viera it makes no sense to me. ESR is different to anything we have. I have seen nothing from Viera to suggest he will be a success at Arsenal. Although if we are going to mess him around for another year i hope we sell him as its is just not fair on him. The way arteta treats some players is not right.
@Pareshkhimji
@Pareshkhimji Месяц назад
It's as easy as that. Is it? If the club can not sell them at a reasonable price, should we get rid of them to get next to nothing? I am sure Arteta and Edu and the team will do the best they can. Its definitely not as easy as just sell players who are injured prone. Imagine if Declan had an injury and clubs interested buying him are offerring 15m to 20m, for us he might not be 100% like he was but he is still good enough and worth more than 15m to 20m other clubs are willing to pay. Do you sell him at a 85 to 90m loss?

A 100% fit Tierney is an asset to any side but like Partey, Jesus, Rowe he probably plays through pain. Do you sign players for less than 20 games of the season? If you want to win all competitions then players off the bench don't weaken the side.

Could Man Utd have done us a favour winning FA cup..........Newcastle have no European football which quality players Bruno and Isak won't like. Ramsdale ,Tierney & Eddie could be part of the deal as they would be good fit for the Geordies.

Hey Charles, After United winning the FA cup, a majority of fans are now saying that in fact United have had a better/ more successful season than Arsenal because they have won a trophy. An FA cup goes into the history books, two 2nd place finishes will be forgotten about in years to come. What’s your thoughts? Great show as usual.

Tierney is a leader, and a model pro. Personally I’d keep him. He can’t invert, so let white do that. His injuries are an issue but we have the depth with timber now plus zinny and tommy If playing long and utilising aerial ability is an evolving part of our game, Tierney is an excellent option, and defensively better than zinny IMO Regardless, all the best wherever he ends up. An Arsenal captain in the making ravaged by injury

My take is to give ESR another season. Need him to back up Ordegaard for a competitive and actual wins of these domestic cups. Arteta needs to simply strengthen the squad and rotate them like Pep does.

When will you begin pressuring Arteta to start winning trophies at Arsenal? We all admire the progress and work he has done at the club so far but we have to be honest. Winning 1 Fa cup in 5 seasons is nowhere NEAR good enough. We've seen a terrible united team winning 2 trophies in 2 years. Liverpool have won 3 trophies in the last 3 years and City have won 5 trophies in 3 years. Arsenal have won 0. What makes it even worse is we actually have a team more than capable of winning trophies so there really is no excuse anymore.
@Denlar96

I think when it comes to the squad as a whole, we need to remember that next season, we need to push for all cups/competitions. This means that even our best players need rotating at least occasionally. ESR can play in a few positions and adds something to our squad. Vieira is good, but i feel his stature in the premier league limits his overall affect on the game (wont win duels ect). Vieira suited the portuguese league or even the la liga.

Hi Charles, there have been a lot of talk online lately that Arteta didn’t pick Vieira towards the end of the campaign because of his lack of effort in training. If such a situation exists, I can’t see we would want to sell both him and Emile as it would leave us short and at least one would have to be replaced. After the FA cup final result, I was waiting for it and it took only minutes before someone commented ManU have had a better season than Arsenal, for me, 2nd place and Champions League qualification is more valuable in this era.
