Art as Alchemy centers around an intervention by artists from New World School of the Arts, a Miami-based conservatory school, with five works from the museum's permanent collection. Selected from more than 30,000 objects at MOAS including ancient fossils, African art, European painting and decorative arts, they represent the broad spectrum of the museum's collections and allowed artists the opportunity to choose from the variety of cultures and media to create their own works and exhibit them next to the Museum's in the gallery.
This exhibition was organized by Wanda K. Texon, Sebastian Duncan-Portuondo and O. Gustavo Plascencia from New World School of the Arts, Miami. The Museum of Arts & Sciences (MOAS) is the primary art, science and history museum in Central Florida. Roberson Visible Storage Building exhibits thousands of objects from many donors which are owned by the Museum, while the Linda and Charles Williams Children’s Museum presents an interactive experience for children. The Lowell and Nancy Lohman Family Planetarium and the Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art showcasing the largest collection of Florida-based art in the world round out the areas to explore inside the Museum of Arts & Sciences.
