Art Critic Jerry Saltz on How to Be an Artist 

Stumbled on this by accident. I have several friends who are aspiring painters and sculptors. This guy is priceless, very genuine , down to earth with a great, endearing wit. I will search for and read the essay he mentioned, as well as other work he's done. Really glad I discovered him.

I'm yet to watch this video. but before watching...I actually stumbled upon this video while trying to have this question answered. There is art criticism and art analysis. I struggle to find how art criticism is different from art analysis. From what I have gathered and understand it seem like a critique is the written analysis of an artwork. Can someone please help me understand these art terms?

EXCELLENT!!!

Jerry likes to portray himself at every opportunity as a anti establishment figure. A a former truck driver with no education, but a champion of Artists. After following him on Instagram I found him to be quite different than he appears. I thought his comment section was a place to discuss Art, and theories about Art. However if you engage with him to discuss Art he lashes out at you in what can only be described as a petty vindictive tirade. Out of the blue He said I will go to my grave never having made a real work of Art. Yes this is the real Jerry Saltz don't be fooled.

Jerry, love you as a critic, respect your life and where you have come from. My story is much like yours.... bitter, angry, smart ass and on and on... I am still an artist if that's what you define it as, who the fuck knows and who the fuck can define an artist .........but please leave your F'N politics out of your art conversation......Be safe in this undefined time
