You made this section look WAY too easy. Pilot Mountain and Chestnut Mountain just about killed me last week when I did this. 😂
@kevintolbert4934
@kevintolbert4934 3 года назад
You cross the parkway BRP . Also, you cross pilot mountain road twice and an intersection. Another road 471. You pass trail 106 Farlow gap and 123 Butter gap right before the shelter. I was there last week. 🙂. It is a tough trail.

Awesome video of the trail, it was really nice. Seems loaded with campsites, the shelter at Butter looks like it needs a little help, with lumber prices the way they are The forest service should wait a little before they tackle that project. Isn't that one of the areas that's having bear problems?

Some really beautiful views on this trail! What’s the info on that silver pouch you heat your meals in? That’s something new to this old goat!
@HikingwithBraids
@HikingwithBraids 3 года назад
It's called a cook pouch. I made it using a cheap car sun shade from walmart, duct tape and sticky velcro.

@@HikingwithBraids AHA! Hiking DIY! You should do a video on that Braids! Seriously! This could be the start of a hobby within a hobby! Any gear that can be DIYed saves $$$$! And I bet I’m not your only viewer who would be interested in occasional content like that! Onward!

You stand as a role model for all hikers, and especially for women. IMHO, Other backpackers can take a page from your book when it comes to diet/food. Doesn't have to be cheap carbs.
@HikingwithBraids
@HikingwithBraids 3 года назад
In all honesty, I ate a lot more of the cheap carbs on my thru hike. It's tough to get better options on a long distance hike, but shorter hikes like this I definitely eat much healthier!

Great videos. I just finished the ALT in 2 days. Should have done it in 3! Where was the piped spring near Black Balsam? I couldn't figure out where that was? Did you take the spur trail?
@HikingwithBraids
@HikingwithBraids 3 года назад
I can't remember the name of the trail but, yes it is on the gravel spur trail just a few 100 yards on the right.

The little side trail to the piped water source before the parking area is it marked? I am planning to do the Art Loeb trail soon and curious about whether I will have to hunt for this side trail or not.
@HikingwithBraids
@HikingwithBraids Год назад
It’s not marked but you will see the trail on your right after you cross over the bald and start down. It connects back with the Art loeb trail if you walk the road a little.

For some reason I had Art Loeb confused with Art Clokey, creator of Gumby. What is Art Loeb's claim to fame?
