Art Pop Ups: What You Need

Here I share a list of essentials needed for a basic art pop up--as in, a small table setup hosted in an existing shop. I love these casual little scenarios. They help me understand which artworks people are attracted to, and they allow me to have good conversations and connections with people, as opposed to when there are large crowds at more hectic art fairs.
having the right set up for an art pop-up improves sales dramatically. I have experimented many times with different table and room layouts as well as interacting with people in different ways. If I sit and ignore people I guarantee art will not sell.
Below is a list of the items I mention in the video. Most of these items on the list contain affiliate links and I receive a very small commission if you purchase them through my link.

If you have electricity you can add LED lamp lights to your booth & wooden crates help elevate items too. As far as keeping cash safe etc. I have a special apron with zippers that I put on & keep my money close to me instead of having a cash box. I bought a customized waitress kind of apron with multiple pockets & zippers off Etsy. I have done a couple of craft shows in the past. I can’t honestly say I had been successful at the amount of time & energy I put into them. I don’t have a lot of extra time for shows & building up the inventory. 😏 Now I have been teaching 2 hr classes in person to teach people some beginner techniques of my art or certain easy crafts & I make way more $$ in those 2 hours Vs an entire day at a pop up show or weekend craft show. I can still be social in person but I get paid to give people a fun learning experience too. It’s something to consider branching out into is teaching classes. (Diversifying income) You only have to know 10% more than others in certain things to teach a class. I have been fortunate I have 2 public venues available for myself to use. Some people use their public library, wineries & breweries & restaurants on slow nights to teach classes.

Oh thank you for these fabulous tips! I've got to get one of those aprons-good call! I make more at pop-ups and fairs than in classes more than half the time, but maybe I don't charge enough for classes! 😉Either way, teaching is definitely one of my income streams. Since that's my professional background, it would be weird not to include it! My level-up for teaching is to try making a digital class on demand to see if I like it/if it is financially effective. Looking forward to learning more about that! Have you ever done a digital class for online use?

@@annelivingstonart no I haven’t branched into digital classes yet. I have found my locals are into buying “experiences” with classes rather than buying hand made products or art. It could be my Midwest experience too. Lots of DIY folks in my area.

@@cordialgreetingsart ah that makes sense! And it's great to hear that people want to buy experiences, really. I feel the more we can get together, the better! 💖

I love the dancing at the beginning! I really like your style of art work. The table looked so professional and cohesive. I would add one extra tip (you probably do this already) and that is when you have all your table set up, before you pack it away remember to take a photograph so that you know where to put everything when you set it out again. 😊

I have a question about one of the items you suggest: the wire baskets. I really like the idea of being able to see more of the art (I currently use wooden bins that don't allow that). How much can you fit in one bin? Are they stable enough to hold the weight that will lean to one end, or might they tip over, so need to be stabilized somehow? Also, do they nest for storage, or not? Thanks!

Great video, and any tips for setting up popups in the region? And do you try to get them in local media

do you mean ideas for identifying places to have a pop-up and asking people to host you? I do have ideas based on things that II and my friends have done. If that is what you're wondering about, then I could totally make a video about that! including local media ideas.
