I think the browns look great for what they’re intended - as darker skins tones where nuance is needed. But for landscapes, I can see why you’d want more distinction between them.

The pens you got are called Ruling Pens. I used them a lot in my graphic design program I was in (a billion years ago, before computers). We used them in drawing typefaces and different objects, then filled in the outlines with something I haven’t seen in 35 years-Plaka paint. It was a paint but worked like India ink. I don’t even know if they are made anymore! But the ruling pens I occasionally still use, and yes, they are from 1985-86!

Thanks for the tip about using GAC100 under gesso on wood! 👍 Black Widow are lovely smooth pencils, and the story behind the brand is really interesting too. I have been using coloured pencil over oil pastel, which definitely speeds up the process! 😂

Those are ruling pens. I have several that were my dad’s. He used them for drafting. They can be nice for putting down masking fluid but i usually use them for creating a frame outline.

It's so nice to see you again, Syndia! The florals are beautiful! I was reading the comments, and I would watch any sort of content you choose to post. Your videos are always so inspiring and calming, no matter what the subject. I do love seeing your art process, though, so I hope you always sprinkle some of that in the mix.

i am new to your channel - from Denmark - wow you are so good at talking about your art process, everything you say is interesting and relevant. Even if we don't have the same painting style, we have the same thoughts and considerations. It's also very relaxing to watch and listen to without all the ambient noise that others use to get attention - you don't need it. You should advertise more for your art channel as you are a natural talent - or encourage your followers to advertise for you on the social media groups about art that they are in - I will do that anyway. Thank you very much for the time and work you put in here on your channel - don't ever stop :) ❤

I work in colored pencils. There are two kinds, wax based and oil based. The technique that works best is layering. In order to blend from one color to to next, you do need to work slowly and methodically. Yes, it’s time consuming, if you put the colors down hard the first round, you can’t be]lend. I have found Prismacolor are the top quality colored pencils and Strathmore 500 series vellum Bristol is a high end paper. I can see why you find colored pencils frustrating. Your spontaneous style, working fast with large areas of color is stunning. That’s a style I can’t do. I’m more methodical. Viva la difference.

@SyndiaArt
@SyndiaArt Год назад
thanks for the suggestion! never tried it. Is it better than regular inks?
@vikistanton
@vikistanton Год назад
@@SyndiaArt no better or worse; just different. Alcohol ink is similar to watercolor/traditional ink, but the solvent is alcohol instead of water, and is used on nonporous surfaces/paper. The way it interacts with itself while painting is a trip, very unique. The vibrancy of the colors is insane, the brightest of any medium I’ve tried. Most people do abstract, but I’ve found it very fun to paint traditionally with brushes as well.

I've been practicing a lot! David is my coach. If I ever share my journey I think I might start an entirely new channel for personal life style stuff that has nothing to do with art (for puppies, flower gardening, singing, songwriting, baking, etc.,) all the stuff I love. I find my art channel limiting in many ways. I'm thinking a lot about all of this right now, especially since my art channel hasn't been growing :o( Thanks for checking up, it brightened my day. Hope you're inspired. Do you have exciting plans for spring/summer?

@@SyndiaArt I, for once ,would loooove to see a new channel from u, where u can share more than art. And u art quite right, an art channel, confines u. And then if u start sharing other things, haters will hate, and start commenting on: WHAT DOES THIS OR THAT HAS TO DO WITH ART?!.... U know, some people! So I think is a VERY GOOD idea to create a new channel... an "THE EVERYTHING SYNDIA CHANNEL", sort of venue! "Syndia, art and MORE".... "Life of Syndia"..... "Syndia's Secret?"... 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅 Im joking with the last on

@@SyndiaArt Oh and about plans for me? Well dear, nothing really.... my health is not what it used to be. I spend most of my days in bed.... "arting" not to lose my mind! But, hey, is all good! At least I have a husband that buys me all the oil pastels I want! 😆😆😆 (That's my medium of choice, and btw, that was how I found your channel!!!) 🥰
@veystone2580

SORRY FOR THE LONG A** MESSAGE!!! 😅😅😅😅 GET YOURSELF A CUP OF TEA OR COFFEE AND LEAN BACK!!! IM SOOORYYYY!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I share your opinion about colored pencils. I used to do whole projects with them, but I stopped using them, like that, cause my hand hurts. And is such a slooooooowwwww medium. 😖🥱😫 Now I only grabbed them if I feel the need to add an extra something to a watercolor painting, or if I'm working mix media. But when I discovered the watercolor pencils, I was the happiest woman on Earth!!! Have u tried them?! If not, I highly encourage u to! But remember, u get what u pay for. U can't cheat quality! Although God knows I try!! Need to save a buck here and there..... and everywhere!!!😆 Sooooo, speaking of quality watercolor pencils, get the Albrecht Dürer from Faber Castell! Don't waste your money trying other brands just to see if you like that medium, cause u will be discouraged!!! Many of those "affordable" watercolor pencils ARE WEAK AND DON'T DISSOLVE COMPLETELY... leaving behind the marks you made when dry!!! (Even reputable brands, I ain't gonna mention, leave traces behind, total bummer!!)The Albrecht Dürer are the best of the best and since they mix sooooo easily you don't need to buy many colors! Although I remember at one point u mentioned, u weren't that fond of color mixing, yet later on u mentioned u were getting the hang of it (yes, I pretty much have watched all your videos 😅😅😅), so I don't know what r ur feelings about color mixing right now. 😁 That been said, of course u can buy a set, but in the event that u r like me and prefer to create your own palette, these 18 colors, would be my suggestion for you to begin! 3 grayscale (white, mid tone cool grey, black) 6 split primaries ( cool and warm yellow, cool and warm red, cool and warm blue) 3 mid tones secondaries (orange, violet, green) 6 earth tones (ochre, orangy brown, reddish brown, greenish brown, light neutral brown *like a Van Dycke Brown, and a dark brown) Those 18 colors and you won't need anymore, unless there is a color that catches your eye. 😉 But with those 18 colors you can mix anything! Actually you don't even NEED 18 colors, I'm just sharing those 18 in case you don't want to color mix a lot. But if you want more of a limited palette, to try them first and see if u like them, then use this 10 colors option instead: white black 6 split primaties ochre dark brown The following info I add just in case, I'm not implying u don't know this, but hey, since I have gone this far....😆 I can't remember all the color names of that brand, so I can't tell you exactly which colors correspond to the split primaries, but this is how to identify them! (Sort of! LOL 😆) YELLOWS: COOL YELLOW Is very bright, a TRUE yellow color that DOESN'T look greenish or orangy WARM YELLOW Is a yellow that leans toward the red, that means is gonna look kind of orange, without been orange perse.... a yellow orange would classify as a warm yellow REDS: COOL RED Easy! Look for a purple or a magenta WARM RED Your "tradicional" primary red BLUES: COOL BLUE These are blues leaning toward green, so here choose a blue green, teal, or a bright turquoise, choose what fancies u 🥰 WARM BLUE These blues lean towards the red. Easiest choice? Choose an ultramarine blue. A dark one. Not a light ultramarine. If there is none labeled as ultramarine, look for a blue that has the word red on it, like the Helioblue Reddish, that's a warm blue. Now, back to your video... 😆😆😆😆 omg! r u still reading this?! 😆 If u r, u r the best... 😆 anyway.... That brand of colored pencils u bought are REALLY good, and just so u know, if you want to buy them open stock, u can! Not on Amazon or anywhere else u might find the sets, but directly through the guy who makes them! Look for Black Widow Pencils on Facebook and message them. They will explain you how to order. 😉 Many people don't know that. They currently have 7 sets, no duplicated colors in any of them. Black Widow, Scorpion, Cobra, Light Skin, Dark Skin, Monarch, and Dragon. All beautiful and the consistency is the same among all sets, no scratchy, or gummy pencils! And finally (oh don't hate me... I know this is like a book instead of a comment 😆) Regarding colored pencils in general: ALL colored pencils are made of a mixture of both oil and wax. When they have more wax they are classified as wax based pencils. When they have more oil they are classified as oil based pencils. The majority of pencils out there are wax pencils. Overall they are cheaper than oil pencils, but there are high end quality wax based pencils that are quite expensive. Wax pencils: *Softer than oil pencils. The softer ones need more sharpening cause they loose their point quick. Sharp points on colored pencils are needed to get rid of the white on the paper properly. *Better at blending than at layering. *Better for people who like to work faster. *Better for people with pain in their hands (the softer brands of course, cause Crayolas are wax, but student grade, so full of fillers, less pigment, therefore really hard, someone with arthritis wouldn't have an easy time coloring with them.) *Not water resistant, they would move a bit if they get wet. Oil pencils *Harder than wax pencils. Less sharpening needed. Hold sharp points considerably, so is easier to fill the tooth of the paper. *Better at layering than at blending. *Water resistant, so they are quite nice to work along water soluble media. Interesting tip on oil based pencils.... if you want to do a quick background with SOFT PASTELS, do your coloring with oil based pencils and then do your background without stressing out about the drawing. The soft pastels wont stick to your colored pencils, not even the white oil colored pencils will become contaminated! Just do your background, tap your surface to get rid of the excess, and voilá! Colored pencil drawing intact! 😃 Ok now!!! Take a pill for the headache I just caused u and see u next time! 😅😅🥰
