Thank you for joining me! A longer video today as I take my time with setting up 2 watercolor and gouache travel palettes.
Video contents:
1. Unboxing my little art toolkit haul: Folio and Demi palettes, plus extra pans
2. Setting up and filling the Demi palette with MaimeriBlu watercolor. I have two sets: Jeannie Dickson and Jenna Rainey
3. Setting up and making a dry gouache palette with the Folio palette, with Holbein, Daniel Smith, and ShinHan professional gouache. I have the Holbein 24 set of 15ml.
4. Some tips for hacking the Art Toolkit Palettes to make them more user friendly with toothpicks and bamboo skewers
5. Swatching the colors in the 2 palettes
6. Using glycerin to improve the gouache palette
7. Final look at the palettes and the laminated swatch cards

I have some tubes of gouache and a folio palette, but I've put off filling the pans because I know you're supposed to add glycerin so they don't crack, but I don't know how much to add. I love that you just went at it, made a mess, and yeah, it works!

Totally just go for it! I can tell you some pans got barely anything and some got a ton and they all work fine so it doesn’t seem to be a very exact science. Just plop it in there lol Thank you for watching!

To fill mine I used a tape runner on the cardboard packaging it arrived in and stuck the pans to it. Meant I could fill them without holding them and they didn’t move around everywhere. They were easily removed from the tape after they had dried overnight.

@@Sydney7768 that sounds like a great idea! I considered doing something similar - just letting the magnet hold them in place. But I wanted to be able to stir and then scrape them flat with the palette knife so I needed to have each pan away from the others for that

Thanks for this video! I learned a lot. I just ordered one of these art toolkit palletes from Spokane art supply. I had never heard of that company until recently. They have a very nice website. I bought the toolkit, and it comes with M graham paints….and was 44.00. I thought that was very reasonable! I’ve never tried that paint before either, so I’m very excited to get it!

Oh good, I’m glad it was useful! And I’d never heard of that store before, so thank you for mentioning it. Looks like the m graham palette is already sold out! That’s a really great deal too because m graham paint is top of the line. Enjoy it! Not that I need it, but if it was still in stock I probably would have ordered it 😂
