This is a bit of a jumble sale of a vlog; there are some clips of abstracts, and sketchbooks, including a recent gouache landscape, studio mess etc. Also included is a short abstract process video. I have really been getting into the creative flow again, a very messy creative flow that is - but maybe there are some ideas for your creative practice here,
thanks for watching,
Sonia

I really love your offerings. Bits and pieces glued together with a talk over still makes for a cohesive vlog Sonia. It's all authentic and relatable. Thank you for being brave and for ongoing solid content. I'm struggling right now personally and your videos and my art practice bring me comfort and encouragement. I love your art work and process. The freedom and looseness is yummy. I'm starting to find my own groove too right in the midst of my hard time. There is no one right way to do art. It's all valuable and it matters. Sending love. R 😊

Hey Rachelle, hope you are doing OK- sorry to hear you are struggling right now, I feel very conscious that I have no idea what's going on for people- I also know (from how I deal with things) it can be hard to even make art if you've got things going on - I'm glad you are finding your groove, woah creativity can really ebb and flow - I too get more from looser/abstract work in hard times, take care, love Sonia

Our all over the place brains make us enjoy lovely squishy messy art, I am so like you, lol, love you , so must love me hey? I’ve been through a box of my old paintings this morning, and I’m getting excited to use some of the things for collage, trouble is i get my art area in such a mess then can’t get going until I have had a big old tidy up so it’s only 8am now Australian time and I have already been sorting out art for the last three hours, so now i want to get started, but, i have one half of the area so tidy and the other half is like a huge mess so i have to finish this if not i will be back to square one. I have stopped for a cuppa, and wonderfully there is Sonia, giving me even more inspiration. Thank you.

The only reason i had to do the big tidy is I couldn’t fine my isopropyl alcohol hunted everywhere and came to the conclusion that i needed to sort things out.

Hi , so glad to hear you are messy too- all this is so true- I tidy and then a few hours later I'm back to square one in terms of mess. I'm sitting here replying to comments and i've managed to surround myself on the floor with open sketchbooks, art books, supplies lol - yay for enjoying creativity though !

Thanks Sonia. Love these types of videos! Really loving that canvas panel. I have been enjoying the Golden So Flat acrylic paint. It's so lovely without the shine. Lovely to see you. x Nell.

Really enjoy your vlogs, Sonia: your jumble sales are always full of treasures rather than just another pile of old blouses! I, too, have become apprehensive about using any kind of acrylic paint. All pigment-based art-making involves using chemicals of some kind but some have a more negative impact on the environment than others so I try to reduce that as much as possible. However, there doesn't seem to be a perfect solution to this dilemma as there will always be something nasty to dispose of in one way or another so unless a person decides to give up art-making completely, it comes down to how much an individual conscience can bear. I don't know if anyone has already done this but it would be interesting, and useful, if a list could be compiled of how much impact the various forms of art-making can have.on the environment (because it's not just about the disposal of dirty paint water) and in what ways, if any, this can be reduced, if not eliminated altogether.

I hear you on all this- some days I'm like in the grand scheme of things my use of acrylics is nt too bad i reuse canvases , use up paint, let the painting water evaporate- but I still end up googling non toxic , more environmentally friendly paint. Then I think maybe water-soluble oils or should i do more with gouache, watercolor . Agree there is no perfect solution to this and I am not giving up art. to be fair a lot of other hobbies too have environmental impacts.

I was surprised you don't want to resupply your acrylic paints. I do watercolor and have been getting into the acrylic paints more and more. My stepdad did oil paintings. I remember it had to dry for longer periods of time. It is beautiful and rich colors, but I don't remember his being bright. I like bright. I do use the oil/wax crayons because I got them from a thrift store or somewhere. They are nice. I have loads and loads of markers and crayons and colored pencils. Sometimes I am overwhelmed with to many choices and have wanted to stick to just acrylic paints for right now. We'll see. I change my mind a lot. LOL Your son tried painting, and I'm sure in the future will come back to it.

I change my mind too - so much , I do love acrylics they are easy- but really want to put some effort into using up my older supplies, not sure what I will go for next! I will definitely restock my neon acrylics

Loved seeing everything you have done this week. So interesting! So much fun!! Let me know if you try the watercolor grounds. I have been thinking about it myself. 😊
