Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Hammock Koch and Jeremy Hansen, the astronauts selected for NASA's upcoming moon mission, talk renewing an interest in space for a whole new generation. "We have global problems...we need global solutions and this is going to be a shining example of how we could do better as a human race," Hansen says.

Absolute respect and admiration for these scientific athletes with the physical strength, mental toughness, and bravery, that only the people in their field can truly understand, yet we all can appreciate. Godspeed to Victor Glover, Reid Wiseman, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen. May your mission be a success.

Admiration? For consistent manned failures? Count them... 3 crew burned alive while sitting on the launch pad. 6 crew members died on Challenger. (including the first teacher in space) as her class watched. Another 6 members burned alive as the Columbia reentered our own atmosphere.
@AlexSadof
@AlexSadof Год назад
@@denniscostabile4264 Yes. Respect, admiration, and appreciation. Things happen. Human failures happen. Engineering failures happen. Hence, the bravery part. I was 12 years old when I watched the Challenger launch in middle school. I was in Social Studies class and it was just before lunch. I'll never forget the reaction on my teacher's face when what happened had settled in. I grew up in Boston, and Christa McAuliffe was born in Boston and taught school in New Hampshire, so New England was especially proud of her being selected. The O-Rings were a horrible oversight, as was the foam on Columbia (BTW both had 7 people on board... 6 crew + 1). But for these astronauts, it is their dream, and I'm sure they know a lot more about NASA's history than you or I do, so rather than slam NASA on RU-vid, I choose admire them, respect them, and wish them luck on their journey.

I remember when I was a kid my dad telling me stories about the Apollo missions and how he and his sisters were glued to the television sets watching the launches and the moonwalks. The whole family would be huddled in the living room watching together. He said it was one of the most exciting times of his life. Now, I'm 38 years old and I have three daughters, we'll definitely be watching the Artemis launching together as a family, really wish my father was alive to be here with us.

It remains to be seen whether this flight will actually take place, given it will not take place until November 2024 at the earliest. NASA will need to provide the public with a very good explanation as to why it is doing this, not only because the world is beset by so many desperate problems but why astronauts’ lives and health are being put at great risk to undertake such a dangerous journey, especially if the reason for going is to conduct science research, which is often done better and certainly far cheaper and safely with robotic spacecraft. The tragedy of the lost Titanic submersible is a classic case that exploration in very dangerous, hazardous environments like the deep sea and space is better done by robots. You can experience the wreck of the Titanic without actually having to go there and the same is true with Mars and the Moon. Most importantly, if something goes wrong with a robot, no lives are put at risk and lost. That is why if It IS necessary to send people into such dangerous environments, there must be a very good reason indeed to do so to justify the cost and risk. So far I do not believe NASA has given such a good reason, given how expensive Artemis is, and getting more expensive with each passing year, month, week or even day.

No one's going to the moon until they figure out how to safely get through the Van Allen belts.

They already did it several times with the Apollo missions. The Van Allen belts "argument" is really one of the most stupid and ridiculous that you "sceptics" come up with. Have you sent up probes by yourself to measure the radiation? No? Then how do you even know that it exists? I' ll tell you: Because NASA scientists told you so. But the same people tells you, that they can go through it. So you believe them when they say that the Van Allen Belts are there in the first place, but you don't believe them when they say that they can go through it? That doesn't make any sense.
