If I were to summarise my thoughts, I'd like to tell the dev team: "Take some more risks, and dare to challenge the players. The playerbase has *a lot* of goodwill towards XIV, even when some appear to criticise it. Don't let that goodwill go to waste because of playing it too safe."
@rexxel8867

exactly it feels like Yoship and team is so afraid of challenging their player the only time they actually challenge the players are Ultimate and Savage, that's why people love that content even FF16 feels like Yoship is so afraid the game is too hard for the player to able to beat the game and i was disappointed even after i plat the game after all i was kinda expecting the level of challenge and gameplay were like DMC5 at least since the combat director is the same guy They did make it very hard in Ultimaniac but still they fked that one because it's not balanced at all (tips just charge zantetsuken to wipe mobs) edit: also eureka/bozja is also a challenge that people enjoy back in the day too

@@anteprs7908 You're speaking for yourself when you say Casuals want to play to relax. Im a casual, i want to play for fun, i like when the game decides to challenge us to a point, hence why i enjoyed the Ivalice raid. MSQ aside, even regular content that has the capacity to stretch the difficulty hasn't been doing so. They nerfed ivalice so its easier now, i wont speak on relic as i really cant this expansion; but doing duels in bozja and the 48 player raids were also really good in terms of difficulty. The raids were good this expansion. The most recent alliance raid had zero team mechanics, no co-operation. Just kill, do stage mechanics and heal off dmg.

"Every mechanic is stand, and let thing resolve" Well when you describe everything in the game at the most basic level, you can do that to every game to make it sound bad... Monster Hunter? Dodge, and attack when there's an opening. Soulsborne? Dodge, and attack when there's an opening. Makes it sound so much simpler than it is. Also on his consolidating the 1-2-3 combo into 1 button. If you think that makes the game easier, then you think pressing 1-2-3 actually takes *some* skill, which really doesn't. I'm all for consolidating 1-2-3 into 1 button because that frees up button bloat for more skills, because pressing 1-2-3 is a no-brain thing anyway, the hardcore players get more buttons to weave in, the brain-dead players don't mess up the combo, it's a win-win.
@temisu_namisu
@temisu_namisu 8 месяцев назад
Especially to allow room for more skills during levelling up. Now that is a very valid criticism everyone has, no matter what level they are or how long they've played. Some jobs are just awful to play when level syncing, and level syncing is a great system to keep. So the only viable solution is to have room to provide a better level up experience by spreading abilities out better.
@albertobarberacampos451
@albertobarberacampos451 8 месяцев назад
I think the consolidation of the 1-2-3 would help specially on tanks, so for example warrior could go 1-1-2 then 1-1-1, so other jobs like DRK, who is with their brain off for every other minute, they could perhaps get a new combo (like idk, they get a dot on their 3rd hit on their target for example). There are however other cases where I'd rather they don't do this, case in point being for example reaper and monk, which are so GCD focused as dps jobs that it would "feel" like they got botched, even though they play the same, so that would require a myriad of oGCDs to make out for that.

Question at 16:12 - Why do you quit Mythic raiding to do FFXIV (in BFA/SL)? Answer: because you need to do so much grinding before you can do mythic raiding! Doing both would be really really tough especially when at the time WoW likes to release content right after other MMOs do.
@sauceinmyface9302
@sauceinmyface9302 8 месяцев назад
One thing I'm not a big fan of right now is how tedious it is to get a second or third job up to BiS, mostly due to tomes. I want to play multiple jobs in savage like the game encourages, but I'm sandbagging if I don't play my main. The grind for one job to BiS though feels just right, and the low barrier to entry to start savage raiding is awesome.
@90Rush
@90Rush 8 месяцев назад
@@sauceinmyface9302You can't imagine how absurd it was to qualify for Mythic raiding, especially world first racers in early Shadowlands. Like you sometimes need different characters even for the same class and same specialization because you don't know which of the covenant would be the best for the next raid tier and need to have item level topped off for all your characters, and need to prepare different classes and specs for a same role in case your spec is bad. Imagine choosing a Grand company would grant you abilities you can use in raids and you don't know which GC will be the best for your next raid before analyzing the fights. It was truly hell at that time. Now WoW still requires monumental levels of grinding for RWF min-maxing but not nearly as bad. For XIV the tediousness mostly come from weekly lockouts and tomestone cap and that's for BIS, you can still get to max ilvl, albeit not the most optimized, I think, eight weeks per job at most and is still vastly more quickly than WoW (or most games that have a lot of uncapped grinds like POE)

The hardest part of any MMO is finding people that can do the hardest content that you ALSO enjoy the company of. The specific game is just a different flavor of the same thing. And whatever game that you've played that you have fun memories and made lasting friends with will be your favorite MMO, regardless of the coat of paint it has. When that MMO becomes stale, people will grow to resent it, because they can't always just move those memories and friends to a new game. And it's hard for those stars to align again in a new game, which can make people feel trapped or hopeless.
@itsspookie
@itsspookie 8 месяцев назад
It's not very difficult to find people with a common goal. Do you go to work to make friends or make money? When tackling difficult content, the friendships come after completion. There's a special bond formed amongst people when said group gather for a goal and complete their goal. Those are special friendships formed through common goals, frustrations, and perseverance.

@OldManInternet You hit the nail on the head with the " mix of social elements and challenging content." There's zero reason why you can't have both. You don't have to approach an MMO like a job either. Said content may only ask for a (hypothetically) "month" of your time at best /worst case scenario. whereas a job is something you can plan on doing for the rest of your life. What's the difference between spending a month RPing in social gatherings opposed to spending a month on trying to defeat a boss? Both are possible. I remember he was very negative and I asked him "What about the story?" He said "I don't do the story". Then, yes, if I imagine playing this game for raids/PVP/misc content/ultimate that is once a ... year or two? Yeah......... I mean, it gets boring fast. Especially the amounts of dialogues you must skip even after story skip from an entire expansion that is current, it can be disappointing. No zone screams nostalgia, no zone has a meaning or NPC. You take the world for granted, you take the game for granted, this is why people's feedback was mixed, I remember him when he played and made videos. Then I knew he can appreciate the game without taking for granted, because I did not understand. What is a loss for me is because I know what he missed out for skipping. So an NPC or place that has much story nostalgia, or seeing a minion, it is just a place for another to explore. However, as somebody who love this game, the moment I'd say "Why do you not try this or that" after negative feedback, we get called "We are problem for not accepting criticism", in reality, I even spoke to him. He said he just want to do endgame contents, move on. So for me, it makes sense why the feedback only comes from what is experienced in the raids........ but because there is no story attached in his world, no connection, it is just as he says "Resolve gimmicks and be done". While it makes sense, he did choose to play this game at the most boring way. Adding to this: I saw his comment sections too, I never felt people were obsessively upset about him criticism, but I remember even myself was shocked he is story skipper. So then it makes more sense why the game can look bad. I think nowadays I am scared to protect aspects of this game because people then call me troublesome for not allowing criticism, but even I have criticism.

The worst mistake SE made was replacing the Bozja-style content by crtierion which are either brain-dead or savage level. Bozja fit that midcore niche and IMO the large-scale of it with so many players is really the essence of what a MMO should be. Now that it's gone though, if you're midcore like me well you grind the savage for a few days then come back next patch. But talking about "the downfall" of ffxiv is pretty hilarious tbh, the game literally goes through the same cycle every. single. xpac. Population will keep dropping for a few months, then as the marketing campaign kicks into high gear it will increase again. Dawntrail will be following the same formula, and the cycle will begin anew.

I disagree about stories in MMOs, a lot of games I played in the past lacked stories and died off very quickly. The ones that I remember that had a stories, stayed around longer, games like dragon nest, when it was invested in its story it was and interesting game not only did it have good combat mech, but I was also fighting for a cause a purpose. The chaos needs order to funnel through the game, and while I do believe some games can pull off not having a story *black desert* but that slowly changing. I think more MMOs benefit from having a compelling story. Why should I care about doing this thing, fighting this thing, rescuing this person, or saving this country? Look at what compelling stories did for Honkai, Genshin, and these are "phone" games. Stories get us to connect with the characters, the world, and so on. I'm sure Arthars did enjoy doing Ultimates but knowing the stories behind them added extra weight.

The idea of what an MMO anymore has changed so much in even the last 5 years, that the idea that an mmo needs to have some sort of constant deep content added patch over patch is just a bit goofy at this point. If the players that really wanted to keep playing because they love the game so much they don't want to step away wanted to actually keep playing, they will find things to do. This is not a realistic goal. There's only a couple ways to keep you playing: repetitive grind, or machine-gunning content. With the former, a lot of more casual players are going to roll their eyes and simply not do something that asks you to do something over and over and over and over again for 500 times before you achieve your objective. doing it the first 1-5 times can be fun. But after 50, 100 times it starts getting old. With machinegunning content, again, the casual players who can't keep up are left out in the cold. They will never catch up, and that's to say nothing about new players who are arriving at Level 90 today. About the time they geared up, they'd already be passed up if SE released content as fast as players asked for. And besides, even if you did keep playing for months, years on end, you'd just get burned out. We saw this with WoW, many long-time veterans got more and more jaded and bitter at the game to the point that _nothing_ made them happy because they were simply burnt out. And I, myself, have experienced this very thing in WoW. I played from Vanilla to WoD .0, and came back when Argus was released, quit for half of BfA and half of Shadowlands, played for a couple weeks of DF. The last time I tried to play WoW, I'd play an hour here, and hour there in what *SHOULD* have been the best expansion ever. Dragons? Heck yeah. Solo progression through open world objectives? Sign me up for that! I thought. But, when I sat down to play it... I just couldn't find the drive, the motivation to play. I think the years of playing WoW, having to grind grind grind to stay current, I just ran out of steam. I don't want the same to happen with XIV, I like being able to take breaks from the game, because there are *thousands* of awesome games on Steam. It's nice to be able to get some of those done, and yet not feel like I'm missing out on XIV. I can take my time, and not feel overwhelmed by the ludicrous speed of new content releases. I think, in part, that's why I can't play WoW. DF is already half done and I've barely scratched the surface. I'll never catch up, and so my motivation to play it is just... gone. Catering to the 40 hour per week no-lifers should not come at the expense of the people who want to keep it to 5-10 hours a week. And for the people complaining that $15 is too much to pay for that, um, hello? Your average Triple-A release on Steam costs $70 and yields maybe 70h. Usually far less than that, but let's say 70h for ease of math. That's $1 per hour. If you play at least 15 hours in one month of FFXIV, you're getting the same value as any other Triple A game. Even if you do nothing but your daily experts at 20 minutes per, it takes 5 experts per week to cap tomestones over four weeks, so that's 20 experts, that's almost half of the 15 hours per month. Throw in an Alliance Raid per week, that's another four hours per month bringing it up to 11, and most players who complain about "not enough content" are probably also savage raiding. So, what, at least 15 minutes per 4 raids makes for another 1 hour per week bringing it up to 15. This is assuming you do no PvP, no Mentor Roulette, no crafting, and nothing else.

All I want is for them to change their weekly tome formula which hasn’t changed from ARR when there were 10 less jobs. Also the savage page cost which makes it impossible to bis all 18 jobs. You should be able to bis all jobs between raid tiers. Even if it’s pointless you should be able to if you want to. Otherwise there’s not really a point to having all jobs on one character. Better off making 17 alts and clearing savage 18 times per week. That’s the only way to bis all jobs between tiers which is ludicrous. The tome/page formula NEEDS more altering.

Removing an extra dungeon a patch freed up resources for Eureka and Bozja, or so Yoshi-P stated. The issue with Endwalker (and some of Shadowbringers) is that a lot of the time was moved over to the FFXVI development team. Hence, less content than Stormblood. From what has been announced and talked about by Yoshi-P, it does seem that Dawntrail will have the most content since Stormblood (maybe even more).

It's important to remember that the skill and game knowledge of the average player has improved a lot since then. Also the prevalence of guides and resources for studying a fight(and the general expectation that you will have done so before entering anything but a blind prog PF) is much greater than it was back then. It's an arms race between player skill and fight complexity. There are only so many ways you can damage a player or the party. There are only so many ways you can test reasoning and reflexes. Unless you hide or obscure mechanics and information from players, or drastically increase the party's punishment for one player failing a mechanic, the players will always stay way ahead in the arms race.

And also there were a lot less instant heals for the healers, besides MP management. Everything got a lot easier with less MP managment and more Instant Recovery. Also the Rotations back then were more Complex for Tank, Healers and DPS. Damage was also important to kill Thordan. The average Player today still sucks in doing DPS, while i could beat that with spamming only one Button on my Melee. It's sadly the truth. @@magus9180 The average player has definitely gotten better, due to 2 reasons, The game is more popular so you overall have more bad players and more good players and you're more likely to run into mid to good players when doing EX or higher content, the other reason is Game Design, the ShB/EW class design has allowed players to play their classes easier allowing the Devs to do more complicated fights, as a whole players have gotten good at registering and reacting to mechanics, even new ones. As much as Arthars doesnt like the new Alliance raid, some of those new mechanics in there would have wiped HW players without the learning of mechanics done over ShB/EW, HW players were pretty dumb.

This is about RANT YTubers I "think" that most RANT YTubers have no idea about the statistics... I am pretty sure that SQ can see what players are doing in FF14 - 24/7. SQ devs are aware of what's going on... Another point is long term changes... We don't know the long term TO-DO list of FF14. Most of the time, we only see coming features and changes for the next patch. (we don't see internal TODO plans ^^) They cannot change things NOW when they have them on a step-by-step TO-DO list, because if you change things, you can break a chain of things in this huge game. A huge game like FF14 is a mix of old school ARR 1-50 things, on the other hand, they have to move forward every day to make the next add-on possible. I hope after Dawntrail they will also change ARR 1-50 in the long run, and make it more enjoyable for newcomers - See, "the World Map and navigation is very ARR Old School, many newcomers have no clue what is where ... better take look at a FF14 Map Database ..." Well, most RANT YTters are just entertainers ...or it's just satirical bullshit ... The best thing is that SQ don't give a dime about this satirical YT entertainment! But when RANT YTubers like to RANT like a pro? Why these RANT YTubers don't write bug reports and suggestions to SQ, instead they just RANT about game mechanics like a crying child. The stupid thing is that some FF14 players don't know that those RANT YTuber have no idea how to "make" an MMORPG "and maintain it" for many years to come ^^. Most of the time RANT YTuber are selfish bullshit talkers - or at best just very good "satirical entertainers with humor" YoY. I play MMO since UO - RANT YTuber they come a go (a long MMO time before, it was FF14 Forum board RANT only), They RANT on every game they have played some hours :P Because only negativity wipes are good for entertainment and get more views, what a bad (gaming / media entertainment) world or? And did you ever think that roleplayers "just have fun" and "don't wait" for the next RAID mechanic or gear upgrade? They just play RP in FF14 "for fun" that's all, maybe they wait for the next Glam Thing ... but some RANT YTubers "know FF14 better and speak for everyone" because they are very LOUD entertainers for X k viewers or? ;P At the end of the day ... RANT YTubers don't make FF14 a better place, most of the time they make MMO places more toxic ... they cry for things "they have no clue about". How do you make these changes? In a running AAA MMO product like FF14, with millions of players! ^^ At the end of the day ... millions of FF14 players ... Don't see this FF14 RANT bullshit, at least I hope not! ;)

Any sort of differences between class rotation, gameplay and damage-people complain. How did you think this would end? Everything about how the game is now makes sense to me looking at how the community behaves if the devs are trying to make it the most accessible. Its not that they are doing less-they made a decision on how and where to use their resources based on the players. I just hope they are willing to course correct. Also, another thing that may have an effect is the JP player base. I don't think they purposefully ignore global, but because the developers are Japanese, and speak and read Japanese (with the majority of them ONLY Japanese and nothing else since one of the requirements to work with Square's development is that you are fluent in Japanese and must move to or live in Oaska/Tokyo) they tend to be a bit more biased and see what the JP community thinks first. Generally, though there are some grumblings and mumblings about the flaws of FFXIV it is significantly muted compared to complaints in NA/EU/OCE servers. Heck, content that was considered "dead" in NA/EU tends to last months longer which matches patch cadence more closely. OF course, the JP player base (or the toxic ones) complains that FFXIV is trying to cater too much to "those gaijin" and should only listen to them. But I think SQuare or CBU3 is running into the issue that they are trying to cater to far too many groups at once, the glam peeps, the casuals, the sole MSQ enjoyers, the hardcore raiders, etc while trying to be experimental with it, leading them to blunder at the execution line (in concept A LOT of things are great and there is potential).

@sliverss7622 8 месяцев назад
Sad, but what made the Dev decide to design the dungeon like this was because of the players. You will notice that the dungeons in ARR are very unique. Some have puzzles to solve. Some have secret treasure chest, and some are difficult mobs or debuff. However, these unique things There's no replay value. People play Dungeons for two main reasons: MSQ and Leveling. Some people might want glamor, but there are similar models in MB. And when they replay, they don't care about puzzles, chests, or if the dungeon has difficult mobs, they'll go leveling elsewhere. That is why the Dev changed his mind to the current dungeon design. Made it linear and focused more on boss fights than before, especially MSQ, so that all players could pass through to continue the story.

6:45 I respectfully disagree. If story doesn't matter for you, doesn't mean it doesn't for everyone else. There are players community calls "plot watchers". they are genuinely invested in a story. Those players play FF14 because it's a good story game and not because it's an MMO. Probably because they loved other Final Fantasy games in the past of other jRPGs. Everyone has their own reason to play games, and disrespecting their preferences is a narrow-minded and self-centered way of thinking.

Ok my biggest problem with this whole argument, as someone who does savage and doesn't understand how people have seen the mechanic 2-3 times and still don't get it, is that a lot of people don't want to engage with difficult content. I've been playing bulder's gate 3 with my partner, and we're on the final act, over 100 hours in. He still can't read the map and still doesn't understand some of the combat systems. You better believe he recognizes a merchant immediately though and knows exactly how to spend an hour dying his armor exactly the color he wants. I'm sorry all these players are getting exhausted with content. I'm still trying to find players who don't take 2 months to memorize a 9 min fight correctly

They should really focus on the veteran players, they are the ones that really care for the game. It's all just getting boring and predictable, and also there's no reward for doing high-end content, you just get a glamour, you won't do more damage in roulettes, or any sync content, you are just bound to AFK and show off your weapon in Limsa. This game has become the casual paradise, that's why I just went to Lost Ark.

The community thing I can agree on. The others point are uh, really half baked. 1. Knowing the amount of dungeons/trials/raids to come is good. Cause literally a majority of other games will tell you "Oh it's coming it's coming soon tm". They've delivered a consistent amount, every time. Not once in my 5 years, nor my other friends who've played, have told me "Yeah there was this one patch where shit got completely cut after they announced one dungeon one trial and the Raid". Also if the formula is so bad, then how come popularity is so damn high? Edit: Okay there was the Shb Ultimate, ya got me. 2. SE is a business, and FF14 is simply a money maker within the business. A huge issue I think is SE not funneling funds back into FF 14 so they can DO MORE WITH THEIR MONEY MAKER, which I can agree with. Calling the store "garbage" is subjective. Are there some bad items? Yeah Gaia outfit comes to mind. Otherwise it's part of the business. Mount certainly aren't reskins thank god. One man's trash is another man's treasure. An opinion can exist, and many can agree to it, but end of the day everyone has different likes and dislikes. 3. "Stand and let thing Resolve". The worse of the points Lynx makes. It discounts everything as Arthars says about fights. That is taking any game with combat and watering it down to the most basic understanding. "Lack of creativity" is immediately invalid when DSR and TOP exists. "Stand in safe spot and let thing resolve" is ANY MECHANIC in ANY GAME. Because Lynx himself is afraid to bring up any actual example for fear of exposing he doesn't understand what is actually "difficult". The man as my first point proves, literally disproves "The formula isn't working but the game is more popular than ever". 4. "Moment of Glory" is... Jesus christ. Healers, Rez Mage, or Summoner rezzing people and saving the run. Tanks who get to LB3 without consequence to mitigate the Big Bang Attack of the boss like Alexander, SoS, Endsinger. DPS too get to LB3 have a moment of glory in EVERY fight cause they are the only ones whose LB does damage. Wanting the old Stormblood system will always be a bad take. I shouldn't have to learn 4 other Jobs to make the ones I wanna main "good". Conal AoEs were bad, glad they're gone. 6. The line about Cat Moms is just, unnecessary. Didn't even need to post someone's face. Could have just said it instead of shaming someone for whatever reason. I was gonna move on but what's the problem with someone having a character they love? This guy could have made the entire point about how battle content is not as difficult as it used to be, but is injecting these weird jabs at women... Being emotional about things??? Starting to think that one comment about the guy quitting cause static kicked him out and he got rejected by a woman he had interest in is true. Funny how both things involve G'raha Tia at that! XD 7. To end it off, there's points I agree and disagree with. I want the game to improve so there's more to do however while a critic I criticize things with legitimate reasons that don't contradict each other, throw shade at communities within the game, or sum it up to "The dev team doesn't care about us". If anyone is still reading this, thank you and I look forward to any discussions had. Just don't fight about it lol.

To comment on point 2, one of the things that made things worse is the fact that SE hasn't produced generational games in a while. Tbh, Nobody expected FF14 to be this good, not many people expected FF16 to miss, nobody expected FF7 remake to almost singlehandedly shoulder the burden of the other games.

On point 3. I don't know, I think there can be more ways to design a mechanic in other games (speaking only from WoW experience now, but just a few examples, also not saying that they haven't been used in 14, just that they are underutilized) Use adds more, have the boss change attack pattern based on which quadrant of the room it is standing in. It also addresses point 4. You can tune fights to still be possible to do on all comps but if there are multiple small adds on short interval you can have either the entire team help out to clean them without cooldowns or e.g. machinist have their moment of glory because they can save Drill, Air Anchor, chain saw to do them solo and feel that they are bringing something no one else is. Mechanics that force people to desync and still say "yes I lose damage but it doesn't matter because I still carried my group"
@dansong9161
@dansong9161 8 месяцев назад
@@simonvietjohansson8069 My answer to this is not everything can be boiled down to "Stand Still and Let Mechanic resolve". There's this neat mechanic called "Deep Freeze". Which unlike others, you have to actively be moving or you are frozen and unable to do anything for that period of time. Another mechanic is Tsukuyomi's Selenomancy. Room is split into two sides, each gradually giving you stacks. Too many stacks? You die. Thirdly there's Eden Umbra, where one of the cycled phases of the fight if you stand still too long YOU CAN LITERALLY FALL THROUGH THE FLOOR. As we can see, no not every mechanic in FF 14 is "Stand still and let thing resolve" because mechanics exists that force you to move and account for your position. However this doesn't change that others games, like say Dark Souls, have the same thing. Dodge the attacks, take no damage, damage boss, win. Now could Adds be utilized more? They are. There are many fights where Adds are used actually whether as a DPS check goal or integral to the fight itself to enter the next phase if the mechanic is not done properly.

First point isn't really about the "amount" it's more about knowing exactly what is coming every single time. 4 normal raids this patch, 24 man next update, another 4 normal raids the one after that. Nothing new or different, same thing every time. It gets boring for a lot of us. Story wise everything plays out the same because of that too. Cliffhangers and important story beats happen at the exact same point every time without fail, makes the story even more predictable. They could switch it up and still announce it, and that could be an interesting mix up for once

27:50 so, this means that people that are talking about button bloat want a mechanic similar to aion, where you press a spell, and next spell pops up, next spell pops up and that's the combo? If that's so, then yes then i agree. For more buttons, yes. Aion did this well, and there were a few ps1 rpgs that did this, like legend of legaya and another one, legend of dragoon. If they give us combos like that? then yes, i accept 100%.

Lynx is just vile in general. Not all of his points are garbage but the way he presents them is. Ive been playing since arr and no one is fucking missing cross class garbage where if you wanted to play a white mage you had to level 2 other goddamn jobs. Nor do i miss leveling my lancer to lv 35 just to get bloodbath as a cross class action or whatever for my other dps. It was a nightmare to sit through. Attributes were good job designs? Lol in what world, are we all forgetting the sm/blm dilemma with having to respecc attributes? If there is one thing this community has shown me is that whenever they complain about shit and the devs take it away, 2 years later you see people moaning about the stuff that got taken away even though it was them that wanted it gone in the first place. Ast cards. Bard not doing dps lb, tank dps stances being annoying to switch, griefing healers never turning off their dps stance to heal for raid wide. Eureka being dogshit, bozja being loved or hated and what have you not, the list goes on. There are many flaws with the game but i find it funny how these old, terrible design choices are now being hailed as the pinnacle of ff14 game design when it certainly has never been.

I think the big gap is you eventually realize that the game does a lot of dripfeed content. Now, that can be fine if the content is actually meant to keep you busy, but the content in Endwalker doesn't give a shit if you do it or not. There is nothing there and what content there is doesn't have any meaningful rewards. So if as a player you don't have anything to do you do old expansion content. But eventually you run out of content and now the dripfeed can no longer be ignored. My opinion right now is the only good thing Endwalker added to the game is the PVP season pass. Criterion while fun you clear it once then there's no reason to give a shit about it. Variant you can do in a day. Alliance there's no reason to do it either. And the dungeon content is truly horrendous overall so it's just Savage, Ultimate, and EX for long term content. And if you're not into those or done with those wtf is there actually there to do in game?

His last point was probably the better one, but for me the 2 min meta thing he brought up was what has really stung me this whole expansion. Like They already lined eventually in the fight so why take away 60's, 90's, 180's from the game? If I'm being honest, EW was probably their laziest expansion.
@temisu_namisu
@temisu_namisu 8 месяцев назад
They were able to line things up specifically because of the two min meta. Without getting complete breakdowns from the development team about why they make the decisions they do, it's all just speculation... But, when you can know when damage bursts will happen, you can set things up such that mechanics happen between those phases, or you can design any downtime around those windows. The question to ask is whether those sorts of reasons have led to better or worse designs and whether they were executed well or not. If not, then it can lead to constructive criticism about the gameplay loop, and the Devs can decide between changing the gameplay loop or improving it to better meet the goals. Personally, it doesn't bother me so I don't really have much to say about the choice.
@coolyeh1017
@coolyeh1017 8 месяцев назад
The 2-minute meta was inevitable based on how the optimizers and pf began to act in ShB. The devs just ended up cutting off the cut and middlemen/illusion of choice then said "You want ALL your buffs to align? Here it is." The devs themselves commented that they spent significant dev time optimizing and perfecting the meta based on player feedback (they haven't stated if they received negative feedback on the 2-minute meta yet). If you look at their interviews in ShB the designers in good faith were trying to relieve the friction among parties and made comments on how the community in general complained about missing X, too much moving, too small hitboxes, too many buttons, that buffs keep on clipping and misaligning, that X class does 1-2% DPS less. Based on community feedback, in my opinion, what we have now is an eventuality. Additionally, the two-minute meta allows the design team to design fights specifically for the 2-minute meta, notice how all the big mechanics line up with raid party buffs. Such that the difficulty is executing your burst phase along with dancing along with the mechanics. I'll give credit that devs are a bit more creative in this expansion with fights to align with the burst phases, but because of encounter design it eventually becomes more of a chore the more familiar you are with a fight.

I can't say that overall ESO's encounter mechanics are better than XIV, but there are certainly some that are really are creative in ways that XIV just doesn't, and admittedly can't, have. One of the first ever raids, called Trials in ESO, has you fight the The Warrior, and the Veteran Hard Mode of this fight is a good example. You are in a large T-shaped room, and around the room are 12 Gargoyle statues that wake up one by one. You can't just dps them all because you won't make the boss's 50% enrage, so the OT takes them away from the group and kites them until the enrage when they will die at the start of the next phase. However, if the OT dies, they'll just rampage wipe the group, and there are too many, but the boss has an attack where he throws his shield in a line aoe at a random player and that can also destroy the statues. So the MT and group needs to line up the boss to hit as many of the statues as possible before they awaken, while dodging or blocking the shield to able to dps him enough. He also petrifies players periodically, which the shield will break them out of, but also players can "break out" of it though this lets off an aoe around them with massive damage. All the while there are dangerous adds that need to be interrupted and killed.

I just didn't really like how he shit on how people want to play the game. He obviously didn't like how he played the game any longer, longing for the bad old days of cross class actions (which, fine by me, I have all jobs at 90 -- even though I think it'll breed the same nasty bullshit WoW has) or stat attributes allocation (which legit makes other jobs kinda useless depending on the allocation). While there are a few points I do agree with that the cycle is predictable and the content is predictable -- I'd rather that than an unpredictable schedule with scattershot content. I would rather have MORE things on top of what we already have. Besides -- saying that "They got rid of our dungeons" is whatever. People only ever do a dungeon once, realistically, and will only repeat it if there's something in that dungeon they want (minion, glamour, orchestrion roll, etc) -- otherwise nobody wants to do that dungeon again. And TBH, I haven't done any of the Heavensward Hard Dungeons since I progressed out of Heavensward. And since I don't do 50/60/70/80 dungeon roulette, I never get it -- I actually don't even do that roulette BECAUSE of that. While he has every right to criticize the game, going out and shitting on the community -- especially those that watched his videos and put money into his pocket, is stupid. Taking the Work2Game approach as his FFXIV Swansong isn't just childish, it's alienating an entire group of people -- again, especially those that watched his videos, watched whatever ads he had on his videos and gave everyone that were his fans the middle finger.

Maybe you delay the first big burst window until 35 seconds in, cause it lets the 90s buff person use their buff a bit before the boss becomes untargetable and it lets you do your big burst, just as the boss becomes targetable again and everyone has their buffs ready and job gauges full, that would be more fun cause its not just "oh my buff skill is coming off cooldown, guess i'll use it instantly"

I think the main problem with FFXIV is the approach they take to designing content. I get the impression that the narrative comes first in most cases, that is to say they have a plot layed out, and then fit content into place around that. It's not even that it makes things predictable, it's more that the gameplay element is essentially an afterthought. They didn't add Zeromus because they thought of a cool mechanic or gameplay element unique to them. They added a Zeromus fight because the plot demanded it. As a result the content can often become cookiecutter, if they don't get much inspiration for the scheduled story fight, we'll get something bland. Same thing with dungeons and zones. They're added because the plot demands a "scene" to play in. YoshiP has talked in the past about how he views expansions and patches as new seasons to a show, and yeah I think that's how the game is primarily designed. FFXIV is not a RPG first, MMO second, as some people like to say. It's a show first, RPG seconds, MMO distant third... Eureka was probably an exception to this, where they built around the idea of a zone for a Relic grind first and foremost, with a plot stuck on after, and honestly I think they need to do more of that. Doesn't even have to be Relic related, and if they really wanted to wow people, it would be part of the expansion from day one, not in a patch down the line. Doesn't even have to be a new idea, I mean really Eureka wasn't even new, it took heavy inspiration from FFXI content. Just do that again (or better yet, refine and improve) and throw something like Besieged in at the start of Dawntrail, or Wings of the Goddess' Campaign system. Heck, the Reclamation system from Seekers of Adoulin would just make so much sense in Dawntrail it's not even funny. We could have an entire gameplay element of clearing the land to expand and explore the map to find this golden city. Locking story progress to your servers progress on such a system doesn't seem so bad when server travel is a thing, and a race to be the first server to reach the Golden City is the sort of thing MMOs are made for... What? No? Five leveling zones and a sixth "endgame" zone yet again? Sigh...

I mean the devs have talked about this all the time. The music, the mechanics, the animations, the designs, etc all tell a story about the boss, original to FFXIV or as another FF reference. You hear that Soken, the writers (like Ishikawa), localizers like Koji-Fox or Kate, Yoshi P, and the art design team work together to create the bosses. To their credit, they have created many memorable bosses within the story's context. For example in P12, the music is a merger of all the motifs within the raid with a dark reprise or the lyrics of previous motifs given new context, the song begins are muffled and echoey in P9-10 but becomes clear when you ascend to the final boss in P12. Furthermore, her mechanics are all references to debunked/disproven theories in science demonstrating her deranged state and stubbornness to cling to her own theories and her world. Additionally, there are lots of Greek terms which is the theme the story and localization team went with to describe the boss's society. The design and story beats are homages to FFII's Pandaemonium in P12 and later the second phase of P12 (also P10 pays homage to FFII with Ultima's attack being the same animation as Ultima in FFII).

You are correct that the narrative comes first. They've stated that XIV is designed as a Final Fantasy game first and an MMO second. Personally, I hope they never stop designing it this way.
