Yes, Eureka and Bozja worked to create an MMO feel, but even earlier relic weapons helped the overworld game feel more alive even for new/lower level players by forcing you to run older dungeons and revisit the previous expansion zones. There's a gap between the free to play players in their bubble keeping those expansions relevant and active, and the latest expansion content, where the overworld and dungeons for (for now, SB and ShB) where there's very little activity, and this could be boosted by some of that content forcing higher players back down into it to keep it 'alive' rather than dead while everyone is sitting in towns.

So, this is actually pretty constructive criticism and I can vibe with this. I would love for their to be more incentive for other people to play, say, the alliance raids from Heavensward through Shadowbringers by having special drops, pursuits, etc that the hardcores can be incentivised to do, which would help people like myself who just want to grind this content for glamours, fun, etc. Right now 10th Anniversary is probably helping with that, but that will end in a week and we will likely go back to 30 minute or more waits for non-Crystal Tower alliance raids. I would love for there to be something like weekly raids which grant more XP/Gil/loot drops, etc for certain raids so encourage them to be populated more than twice a fucking day.

I'm very casual gamer, i don't like "hardcore mode" etc... But Endwaler is the worst extension, and maybe the eye opener. I started the game at 5.2. I really like the story, because you have to become the warrior of light and you discover light and darkness are the same, not the story of good one against the bad one. But i was a little bit disappointed : the DJ are the same structure (4 packs of mob, 1 boss, 4 packs of mob, 1 boss, 4 packs of mob and final boss, every along the aisle), and the raids/boss are the same too : big plateforme with the boss in the middle or at the edge. And of course, some part of story like the "gang of lalafel" who should have been the main point of Heavensward disappeared quickly... But when Endwaler is launched, i was so disappointed by everything !!! For exemple : - Story : please, i expected something more "adult", and we got "yeah the power of love of hydaelyn is super fancy" "trust in the friendship yeahhh" ... god, i expected we gotta a neutral position, or the power to choose between ascian and hydaelyn. No, Hydaelyn is right and ascians were wrong... no sorry, i'm not ok ! - Content : nothing news, same kind of dj and raid ... just the color and characters change... the story of 6.1-6.4 is so boring and still "yeah being friend is so cool, look, be my friend, everything will be good after, yeahhhh" - New type of content : making "solo mod" in MMO rpg, i think they were more occupied by the sort of streamers than thousand players playing mmo to play with other players. They create an island to play alone in MMO ... And DJ with a harder level ... Please, MMO is the kind of game where the creativity is possible, where you can do anything !! but with ff14 , the community is happy just with emote to simulate sex in limsa lominsa ...

@@tuduermestrop8474 I don't think you understood Endwalker's story if all you got out of it was "Hydaelyn was right, Ascians were wrong." You know Venat was an Ascian, right? And Emet-Selch and Hythlodaeous, also Ascians, help you in the end? The expansion goes to great lengths to show that Hydaelyn Sundering Eorzea came with its own sacrifices and costs. And then to do that over, and over, and over again, further diluting her own power, further pushing Eorzea to losing its aetherial protection against Dynamis... it all culminates in the Final Days happening at some point, because Hydaelyn was only putting a bandaid on a gaping wound. It's extremely adult to examine the cost of trying to save a world, to explore how a heroic sacrifice actually made the world worse. And lol, "friendship overcoming all odds" is about as Final Fantasy as it gets. I don't even know how to react to your weird summary of the patch MSQ.

@@ZephyrFate dude was disappointed for the story he didn't get, I guess? To be fair, it does sound like he is caught up on the Lalafell Merchant Empire conspiracy kinda going nowhere. Nanamo not dying is kinda one of the biggest missed opportunities in the series. I feel like the guys who followed the absolutely best part of ARR (that final mission) just didn't know what to do with it, afterwards, since they wanted to instead focus on the Dragonsong War and introducing The Warriors of Darkness. I just wish they didn't do the stupid fakeout of "well, actually Lolorito was just engaging in some way to get rid of Teleji Adeleji so he played along with the fake assassination so Raubahn would assassinate Teleji." Hell, I barely remember how it ended, tbh. I was just disappointed that it went nowhere. That said, Heavensward was overall an 8/10 and Shadowbringers is at least a 9/10 if not 10/10.

So the best thing about Duty Support, other than the lines of dialogue, is that you actually get to LEARN the dungeon. When you are playing with other players, you can't help but feel if you go through DC for the first time and are just dying left and right that you are infringing on the fun of others. Then again, the counter-argument is that said people will not get that nice boost in rewards for you doing it the first time. I usually run DS for a few times as a tank or healer class. I roll DPS if I am doing something for the first time through DF.

The Eureka/Bozja zone talk really hits home. My most enjoyable memories in this game are in those places, with randoms, who are just having a good time. It was amazing seeing all the people trying to finish up relics, until the last day of Shadowbringers. I really miss having that type of zone. I have always said as a new player (started Nov2021) the difference between me and others is new content feels like "additional content" where new content for others feels like "the only content" because they have completed everything else. That is why I am happy these conversations are happening yet not really engaging with them myself, I trust people like you and Zepla to speak out and work to keep this game good, why would I not trust you guys, you have been the core of the ffxiv twitch space since I started and always showed passion for the game. So I hope newer players like myself remember that its good to enjoy the game and its okay to not be involved in these discussions if they make for feel negative, but these discussions are IMPORTANT and will make the game better when the "additional content" one day becomes OUR "only content"
@blueray222
@blueray222 9 месяцев назад
This is a nice take on the current state of things. Anybody who raises problems about the current content cycle leaving them high and dry are more or less told to shut up and be grateful that we aren't *forced* to grind now like we're in the WoW mines, and with concerning frequency. The game was ALWAYS respectful of your time, it had a good balance of things to do if you wanted to pursue them, and freedom to put it down for a while without falling behind in any significant way. The major difference now in EW is that all of the long term content that you COULD do if you so chose has been stripped down to be completable in about a week without even trying that hard, or removed outright. A lot of people seem to refuse to acknowledge the perspective of veteran players now more than ever, shaming and putting them down for expecting more of the game at worst. So it makes me relieved to hear a self-professed new player being understanding of the situation players who have kept up with endgame for a long time are in. These discussions are very important, but all sides need to be willing to have them :D

Its becuz theyre still new to the game so its all fresh to them. I used to think the same thing but after i finished all the content as far as msq and raids and even casual content like crafting, fishing, gold saucer and side quests i started seeing the flaws that the content creators are talking about. @@jackjohnson8305 Its just like was Arthars said in the video when you love a game you do want to play more or have a reason play more without feeling forced to be on. Like i get your point its nice to have a game you can put down and pick back up at anytime and not have to worry about catching up. However when you have systems in place where people complete in a few hrs and then done with not much replayability, people will quit and do as you say and while thats fine it does suck when you end up with players who have forged friendships with their fc mates or statics and now you dont really get to play with anyone. Atleast from my experience the game is slowly becoming more antisocial. the past 4 fcs ive been in that say theyre active and do events, they only have like 2 people online half the time and no one gets on discord. While i enjoy FF14 for its Story i like the group activitys and fc bonding and right now for alot of fcs that arent part of the clubbing and rp community, that is happening to them now. Also i poorly worded that bit about finished content, what i meant was i finished the main content then dabbled in the casual content and it just wasnt for me as far as a form of endgame, obv you cant please everyone but for people (not saying you) to get mad and triggered when someone states an opinion they have about the game is kinda stupid. They get mad because you dont enjoy the game they play it so they have to send the attack dogs on anyone who says something about the ff14 even if it wasnt in "shitting on the game" way.

@@jackjohnson8305 The only problem with that take in the current state of the game is that the EW patches have factually, demonstrably, less content to them than any previous expansion's. When you've exhausted XIV's existing backlog of things to do because you've been playing along while it was recent, it becomes impossible to ignore how much quicker a new patch runs dry in EW than previous ones, even though we're still paying the same amount for a month's worth of game time as we always have. Even if you *want* to play it some more because it's what you're in the mood for, most things that could sustained interest over a longer period of time have been gutted in EW, Relic Weapons being the case in point. That's the big problem here, not that people demand endless entertainment from XIV, but that anything that can sustain interest if you WANT to invest more time has severely dwindled, and I consider that a big negative for a game that requires a certain critical mass of players always being active to survive. It's not noticeable to people who are fresh and starting with this huge backlog of old content, and doesn't understand what old patches had to offer, but as someone who's supported this game for almost 7 years at this point, I've never felt more neglected than I have in EW.

Maybe there will be some kind of 'artifact' weapon that would bring a new grind to the table. It's all just a theory, a game theory, but I think it would bring a refreshing take to the table. Its the lack of midcore content, replayable content that isn't done in a day or two and that doesn't artificially try to increase its replayability through weekly locks. But considering the plans they announced for 7.0 it seems unlikely to change. Maybe by 8.0 they will listen.

@@pdoodlethe problem is that the devs know that the log in numbers drop at the end of an expansion. The thing is that the devs plan for this drop every expansion cycle (for things like massive maintenance, internal systems checks, etc.). You can tell because in ShB with the unpredictable influx of new players caught them off guard (though being on a pandemic caused a massive global shortage that didn't allow SE to get new servers in time). Another thing is that according to Lucky Brancho numbers though the number of people have dropped it is still significantly higher than it was back in SB (like a 50% increase, ShB is a bit unreliable due to the outlier conditions). So the devs know there is a drop of players from 6.0 but not enough for them to worry too much if people come back for 7.0 or 6.55 (players getting into the pre-expansion marketing groove that inevitably happens), if the number coming back don't hit early 5.0 levels then they might worry.

Eureka and Bozja type content is missed greatly at the same time i do not miss that god awful pagos light grind, or bozja's "collect 10 of X number things with really low drop rates within the bozja zone but high rates outside of it". Mind numbing tedious grinds that feels like i need to rely on people doesnt feel nice. The drought at least keeps these zones filled up to a degree. If EW had its own zone then i doubt people could go back and get progress in their eureka or bozja weapon as effectively now as they are. New tomestones for relic is definitely future proofing and more accessible though cant argue with that.

Been around for about 3 ish years now, had a blast almost the entire way through "catch up" (almost), fully caught up about a month before Endwalker release. I was excited, and I enjoyed most of what I saw throughout the expac, both because I had nothing to compare "on-content" to and because I was still relatively new to the game even like 200 hours in. I didn't skip cutscenes, I didn't purposefully skip content as I went through the expansions if you don't count extremes and savage raids, if I learned of something I missed I went back and did it, and I took the good and the bad of each expansion together pretty well. Watching this video made me realize something though. As a mid-shadowbringers baby, I spent more time playing during the Endwalker expansion... yet most of what I've done is unrelated to Endwalker. At first I just thought I didn't like the on-content mentality, so I made/co-leaded not one, but TWO antiquated content statics, Min ILv No Echo Blind, one for Extremes and one for Savage and I really enjoyed my time there. I paused in the middle of my Eureka grind while listening to this video cuz I realized that the most fun I've had in Endwalker was outside of Endwalker, and the current "formula" I suppose for the lack of a better word is wearing thin, and some of the changes made to cater towards casuals or Endwalker focused decisions poorly impact earlier expansions indirectly. Dawntrail really needs to shake things up just for the sake of being different. I want to keep playing the game and finish my "to-do MINE/Blind" list but that's getting harder to do when the staleness is making me just wait for raid night

People did complain about Eureka and Bozja, I love them both but people did complain about it and didn't do it. And then a lot of the same people are now complaining that we didn't get one this expansion it's just stupid imo I don't even think people know what they want... I also hate how people act like we got nothing in return, we got a completely new dungeon system that they've kept building on and will keep being a thing in future expansions in Variant/ Criterion dungeons which is some of the best content they've ever added imo and we got a new deep dungeon + tons of new casual content. We got MORE content this expansion not less but people hyperfocus so much on Bozja and Eureka and overlook everything new we got. I think the Variant/ Criterion rewards sucking is a valid critique but the devs have also acknowledged it and said that they're working on it. On the other hand it does make sense too that they didn't throw too many rewards into it because it was something new they were trying, imagine they added a ton of important rewards to it and then it sucked. And even tho it's good people would quite frankly still complain, there were people flipping out that the P12S mount is '' cute '' and complaining about how they didn't want to do Savage for a cute mount but still want the mount. No matter what the devs do there will be people screaming and whining about it. Especially if they're going to add gearing to Variant/ Criterion it makes sense to be careful with it, and even then most people complaining probably don't even do any content where gear matters.... I don't even understand why some people care about gear when they never step into any relevant content where gear matters at all.

And I know, cause I remember revisiting to redo DR and Castrum even as new content, only to quit because only four to five peeps, including myself, joined in when queues finally stop trying to find more people for DR or when Castrum popped. In terms of content just running out, isn't this just a part of all MMO's? I feel like it's actually impossible to create endless content where you keep coming back for more, day by day, and not feel at least burnt out after a while of doing it. Also some games can accomplish this like Counter-Strike or Valorant for example, but those games are PVP focused and the content is competing against other players. But still, eventually people will get burnt out in games like those as well. So let's keep the conversation strictly to MMO's. I don't play WoW or Guild Wars 2 or any other MMO's so it would be nice to hear from people who do if it's the same on their side.

while it IS true that its downright impossible to create content that keeps you "busy" or wanting to log in all the time, buuuuut at the same time, what MMO players in general are saying, especially the vets of any paticular MMO, is wanting to have content that actually is replayable and actually lasts longer that what we have. plus the formula is just straight up stale. its never a good sign when any piece of content, whatever it may be, legit dies in less than a week. if that piece of content is to succeed in a MMO, it needs to A) last and B) provide an incentive to actually do it. like a really good reward like maybe a mount or like a piece of gear for example. and alot of EW doesn't have that at all. which is where alot of this is coming from. nothing in this expansion should die in a week and there is 0 incentive to even do it to begin with so its like why even bother.
@Pandrawrr
@Pandrawrr 9 месяцев назад
So what I'm gathering from what you're saying is the reward structure is weak right now. Which yeah I could see. I know that you can get the mount really easily in something like criterion/variant, but do they offer anything else in terms of rewards? Like tomes? I know they don't drop gear, which tbh they should. Maybe they could make it take longer to obtain said rewards, but that also feels like it would feel terrible. Also I know Stormblood and Shadowbringers released with PotD and Bozja respectively, and yeah Endwalker hasn't released something similar in terms of replayable content which is a terribly missed opportunity. Although I'm not gonna claim these are easy to just think up and implement while making them feel fresh from previous releases. It really does seem that FFXIV has suffered a bit in the content department because of YoshiP's split attention, but hopefully that won't be the case in the next expansion coming up or any further patches. @@KitaiAryik

@@Pandrawrr YoshiP's attention being split i think is part of the issue whether its being on the board of directors, which wont allow him to leave apparently at this point (being the golden goose with 14) could very well be one of several issues. since his focus is split between 16, 14, and to some extend running SE to a degree. which doesn't help at all. and with criterion rewards are pretty much abysmal to nonexistant at this current point. outside the mount (which can be sold on the market board btw) and maaaaaybe a glam or 2 the ONLY rewards for doing either savage or the normal versions of it is pretty much materia, which is already piss ez to get to begin with, there is 0 reason to even get em in the first place since you can just buy any of the rewards on the marketboard to begin with. so like why even do it. other than to check it out for the first couple days and thats about it. the rewards in 14 have been terrible for yrs. and with gear restricted to dungeons and mostly raids, its difficult to gear multiple classes since the tomestone caps very low with 19 and soon to be upped to 21 jobs next summer with DawnTrail, is a measly 450/week. and i do agree coming up with something like bojza/eureka is never ez to do but if taken out, what do we have that we can do that doesn't die in less than 7 days? that is something that they do need to figure out and it is up to the dev team to do so. while its never an ez thing to do, in the end i think that is something that still needs to be figured out. we MMO players can be a fickle bunch and its never possible to please EVERYBODY and all you can do is make something in the game that can apppeal to as many as possible and keep our attention for more than a couple days. CBUIII just has to figure out how to come up with a system that can be replayable and make use of what is already in the game and give us a reason to actually do it more than a single time or 2.

I have over 5000 hours in this game, and the vast majority of content I frequent is content that has been in the game for longer than I have been playing. Like I got my Delubrum Reginae Savage clear at the beginning of this month, I have been going to Pagos to work on getting all the relic weapons from there, I have been doing Mentor roulettes to work on getting that mount a little bit every day for nearly a year now (of which I may be done with even before 6.55 comes out). Those pieces of content weren't added in Endwalker. And while I have a laundry list of things and goals I still want to do in the game (good for me), only a handful of them are for content added in Endwalker. While I don't see the glass ceiling myself, I know its there, and I can empathize with those who had come before, have done all the things they want to do and are at that glass ceiling. And as someone who enjoys this game (I wouldn't have put so much time into it if I didn't care), I want to see change here as much as anybody else. And yeah as a relic enthusiast, someone who has done every single relic grind in the game at least for one weapon (and for every expansion but Stormblood, I have all the weapons. I am working on the Stormblood weapons guys, Eureka is time consuming), don't even get me started on how much of an affront to God the Manderville relic "grind" is. I don't like the Manderville grind but at the same time A LOT of people actually do like how easy it is so it's not a black and white issue either the people who dislike it are just more vocal per usual. I'd just love to hear what expansion people think had more content than EW exactly, because they can't name it because it never happened... EW has been the most content rich expansion we've ever gotten... The issue is that people don't do it and then complain there's nothing to do, even when it comes to gearing most people don't even do any content where gear is relevant and matters at all. @@jag764 It isn't that Endwalker is lacking any content at all. It that its lacking content for a specific, very vocal group (but I wager not a minority) of people: the Midcore player. Players that are too hardcore for something like Island Sanctuary, but not hardcore enough to be progging Savage and ultimate consistently. In previous expansions, what would keep these players occupied between patches would be the Relic Weapon, as well as the exploration zones (so Eureka/Bozja). All three of which, for the lack of a better word, are absent in Endwalker, with nothing in to fill that void. Island Sanctuary and variant are too easy, Pvp is too niche and unbalanced, Criterion is too hard and doesn't have the incentive to run it, and they nerfed the exp you get from Eureka Orthos for some god forsaken reason so it still better to just continue Bozja for 80-90. Yes, the content that the midcore would want is still in the game as a whole. Eureka and Bozja still exist. But Eureka is over four years old at this point. Bozja is younger but still several years old. There is a decent amount of that midcore playerbase that are just... done with Eureka and Bozja. And now they have nothing. And as I said, the midcore player is NOT a vocal minority. This is at the least, a sizable group of the player base that has been pretty much abandoned for the past two years. At this point they either have to convert to a hardcore player and find a savage static or do Orthos solos (which they may not be able to do due to irl time commitments or hard caps on their skill or whatever), or do the hyper-casual content they are done with in like 2 hours tops and then are left with the same problem. As far as midcore goes, I think Stormblood was the best for them as far as content offerings go. HoH for leveling alternate jobs, Eureka, an actual relic grind, A trial series with a surprising amount of extra content along with it (it came with two whole dungeons!), Solid rewards from maps that didn't for the most partn plummet in price to below 10k after week 1 (the endwalker map offerings have been admittedly mid if you compare them to the SB and especially SHB offerings, especially in the glamor department).

(while also gearing in this game also sucks monkey balls) and about your point of selling map rewards (or anything in this game for that matter for the purpose of amassing gil), that point is moot... gil in this game serves 0 purpose, theres nothing in the game that costs gil for you to do except of buying crap you dont want to farm yourself (which is not part of the gameplay loop). its not used for upgrades, its not used to buy ingredients (dont count the base ingredients from the crafters vendors because you can literally go grab them yourself and it renders the shop useless immediately), its not used to buy armor, weapons or tools from vendors... all that has its own currency which renders gil useless.

1:22:50 can you expand on how Pandaemonium was a miss? Was it encounter design or individual mechanics or visibility of mechanics? @shawnscouten5184
@shawnscouten5184 9 месяцев назад
I have no way of knowing specifically what he meant, but I personally dislike the pandaemonium raids, because as a tank main, having massive hit boxes that make us no different then phys ranged is no fun, even having forced downtime like in e6s is better than something like rubicantes or hegemonies hitboxes, and that’s ignoring how immersion breaking having a human sized enemies hitbox take up 2/3ds of the arena is. Also the constant recentering of bosses gives tanks less to do, aggro is already gone as a mech so all we really have left to do is tankbusters, which is not much. Also they have been overusing body checks recently, and having everyone blow up because 1 guy did something stupid is never fun, it is much better if people doing stupid things makes it so you fail the dps check later so you can still prog even if someone in you pf is trying to hold you back. Instead we get the opposite with excessive body checks and super easy dps checks, which is not really that fun. Also jobs being super simplified just makes bad fights feel even worse.
@Pandrawrr
@Pandrawrr 9 месяцев назад
That paints a pretty good picture for me, thanks. Yeah I've noticed that the game takes away more and more responsibilities away from the player with each expansion. Like with recentering, it takes away some of the nuance that comes with performing the tank role which in turn takes away some of the fun. Also I do wish the hitboxes were smaller to give more of a challenge. Big hitboxes also takes away melee responsibility and having to plan gcds around certain points of the fight. I remember doing e8s and honestly the variance of the boss hitbox where it was small early on and only got a little bigger at the half was pretty fun to play around. I feel that player responsibility in fights is something that the development team needs to hear as feedback, so hopefully there's some that are giving it to them whether it be through official forums or whatnot. The point about body checks, yeah it does suck when it's just because of one person mispositioning or being dead during. When it was things like vuln/damage downs I felt that was at least a good medium where you could make a few mistakes but weren't ultimately punished hard unless you or others made many mistakes as the fight went on. I hope they go back to that philosophy of fight design more than just straight up body checks. I can understand why they simplified things like buff timers and job actions, but they definitely do have to find a way to spice it up because I agree that they all feel similar because of just offloading all damage during that window. Power-creep is also to blame here, since when we get stronger, designing fights that feel fair and up to date get harder. I'm not gonna claim that job balance is easy, especially not with the amount of jobs out, but here's to hoping they figure something out.@@shawnscouten5184
@Turamwdd

@@Pandrawrr Body checks are just a quicker way to restart the fight vs the damage down abilities. To make damage down matter, you need tight dps checks. That means you could be wasting several minutes fighting a boss with people expecting that they will hit an enrage. So, people call wipes instead. Body check just saves the effort of arbitrarily determining appropriate dps checks. For DSR, they had to tweak a dps check because too few of people were failing it. They arbitrarily determined that adding X seconds would allow Y% of players to pass the check (deciding that Y% was the acceptable number for the fight). I much prefer instant pass/fail mechanics to "did only an acceptable number of people fail a mechanic."

@@Turamwdd the game isnt just designed around week 5 raiders reading guides, damage downs vs body checks are part of fight design to have point during week 1 blind prog and race prog where there is "this is a wall, do this correctly or you wont see any more mechanics" vs "ok you will fail the dps check if you make a mistake here but you can see some more mechanics to theorycraft after wipe" damage checks _are_ tight when its week 1 and you're getting to the last fight with still mostly crafted gear, the usage isnt random, also what meth are you smoking p8s got a 1% hp reduction, DSR received 0 changes, top got bugfixes which involved reduction the duration of the magic vuln of near/far world by half a second, which literally only made the auto attack not kill the main tank, and they also i guess delayed 1 auto attack so the boss can be voked in 1 phase as to not nuke a random party member but DSR has gotten 1 bugfix (brazil tower) and no damage or hp adjustment at all.

Yeah, streamers are having a rough go of it because it's just not a game conducive to maining as a streamer unless you raid or do PVP. Asmongold said he noticed when Endwalker first dropped that once you run out of MSQ the viewers leave. That's because FFXIV viewers are mainly there for react content to the MSQ, not the game, itself. That does not mean the game is bad, just that it is not CoD where the skill ceiling is so high that watching a professional will give you more insight into the game and encourage you to watch. I wouldn't watch someone grind out Night in The Woods or Dear Esther, either, or play Resident Evil 4 Remake for every day for 8 hours at a time, either. You don't get anything out of it. Now, this does not mean that there is none of that in the game, as you can see from Raiders, or from watching Pint try to get the world record on Kugane Tower.

It was a bizarre feeling to suddenly be thrown into another "Oh this even *bigger* evil darkness is gonna end the world!" plot when we just had the definitive finale of the entire story. Of all the times I expected to have some narrative downtime, some levity or even slice of life adventures to have a break from the non-stop world ending catastrophes, it would have been now. That's probably why the MSQ has felt so limp in the EW patches, everything was immediately thrown back into the status quo, even the Scion's splitting up didn't last for a single patch.

Eh, this is the Endgame problem all over again. The story MUST go on, and because of that, Thanos just can't be the final boss. I actually hope that Dawntrail kinda skimps on story and just does some random filler that takes you from new activity to new activity, and nothing more. I hope they spend most of their time focusing on the game side of the content. That said, I know I'm in the minority here. FF XIV's story is absolutely fucking solid, I just hate how it eats up so much of the content of the game since I DO play other games and I'm just like "bruh, it's good but we're not talking RDR2, Last of Us, or God of War 2016 here." Not even talking FF9 or old school FFVII. It's just a cool throwback story to really, old school FF like III, IV, and V.

I have this feeling that all this hand wringing and whining is going to feel dumb as fuck in a year. They seemed to have spent most of their time this cycle fixing pvp, and I have this feeling that the series grinds are probably going to come to pve stuff. Not to mention it looks like Eureka/Bozja-like content will probably be returning next cycle. I also am hoping Variant Dungeons get introduced to all previous expansions, just as they are just finishing DS for all previous expansions. I get that people are pissed because there is no Eureka/Bozja, but I highly doubt that if there were the numbers of players in that content that people keep saying there are, then you will see a new version next cycle. It does seem they phoned in relic weapons this cycle, though. Making it hust tomestones kinda makes them feel less fulfilling.

I'm only about 30 minutes into this video, but I think the difficult thing is to try and balance the new player experience with the veterans. If they CONSTANTLY release new content at a rapid pace, new players (like me) will feel like it never ends. For example, I started playing when Endwalker first released because a friend of mine wanted to play. I wanted to catch up to him and get to the same part of the game he was in, but low and behold 80 hours later, I'M STILL ON A REALM REBORN! It seemed like I would never get to the end, and because I work full time, it took me almost a full year to get from ARR to the end of Shadowbringers. But I think Arthars touched on this briefly, and after you've done everything you can in the game, you change from "I play this game because it's fun" to "I play this game because it's fun to play with my friends." You play to spend time with the community, you play to spend time with other players. I recall seeing a video about a year ago with someone outlining the key differences between FF14 and WoW, and one thing they noted is that FF14 is a much more social game than WoW. Communities hold their own events in game, and many people don't play for the challenge, but they play just because it's fun to hang out with people, whether they be online friends or IRL friends. For a content creator, the end game might be boring, but when you shift from playing for yourself to playing solely to hang out and teach others, it gives you a different perspective. Once I do everything I can, I intend on playing and helping out new players. I just recently lost my sprout icon ^_^ so I don't feel so new anymore, but I still have a ton to do. I only have 10 relic weapons total, and I only have 15 classes at level 90, both my culinarian and fisherman are at level 20, and I don't have any Splendid Tools yet. I also see it is a good point to take a break. I took a break to play FF16, and because of my work, it took about 3 months to beat the game. I've gotten back into FF16 a week ago, got thrown into some "welcome back novice" chat room with mentors, and i"m all back up to speed now.

Are people actually enjoying all the RNG in TOP? Every mechanic has 5 layers of RNG in them. That makes prog insanely exhausting. You can never muscle memory the fight. One can say that makes it harder, but one of the coolest things about ffxiv was always learning the dance. In TOP every mechanic is DOTH. Which means every pull is substantiolly different. Thats why I hope theyd rather make fights like TEA instead of TOP where you need a conga or prio list for each mechanic.

Yoshi P has always said that we dont have to log in everyday and constantly play the game to feel like we arent being left behind on anything I get that, but I really dont appreciate when that is being forced down my throat to the point where none of the content in EW has any longevity to it. Island was 2 weeks of content MAYBE at launch, and is now MAYBE 3 weeks of content with all the patches as of where we are at now. Criterion dungeons you can get done in a day with all the pathways, and then do the harder versions of it which may be 8-12 hours of prog in total (idk exactly as i havent had the chance to do them). Raiding isnt for everyone, so ofc thats just less content for us turbo casuals to do, especially us who work from roster to roster with no real consistent schedule it makes it hard to raid and pf is just.....no. Ive never been so bored to login to the game in my life. I may have logged in once or twice but even then it was the check something for like 10 mins and then logout and go back to whatever i was playing or doing beforehand. I just want something new grind in this game, to be able to do a long ass grind that everyone in the community is also doing due to it being new, but instead im just hitting rocks and trees in the diadem for 3 hours a day for fucking 3 months for a dumb dinosaur, or grinding an old ass relic that maybe a few people are in my Eureka/Bozja instance are also doing too, just to say I did it but even then im so burnt out from it that i dont even wanna login anymore. As a new player, its fantastic cause you have like 20ish jobs to grind, 200+ hours of story to get through, easy enough mounts to grind for, achievements to go for etc but for us who have been playing for 2-3 years now, and especially people like you Arthas who have been playing since the VERY early days, we just go from patch to patch for new content to do but theres just no longevity to said new content. Shit sucks, I hope we dont go through this with Dawntrail. If the story ends being as mid as what this Golbez shit is and content has no longevity to the content we get, i might end up just quitting the game entirely and maybe come back in a year or 2

I think one of the core problems to FF14 is tha despite being a game for everyone, doesn't mean it has what everyone needs. Some of the casual player demands: More housing, more gold saucer games, more dungeons with NPC, and some of them complain the extreme trials are too much. Some midcore/hardcore player demads: More difficult trials, gear system needs to change, the watered down rotations need to go away, and the delay between patches. Having said that, people doesn't mention oftenly the big elephant in the room which is Square. With FF14 being one of the most sucessful if not the most successful MMO at the moment, they don't feel the need to improve. They are managing the game in a super safe mode. Kinda like Nintendo when it makes consoles that are like 2 gens behinds in terms of technological specs, but still sell like hot cakes. Square won't make the effort to increase the budget and bring in more content that is not the typical "new scenario, new fights, new recipes". We have been dancing to this tune over 10 years. As long as they don't see their player base shrinking a lot, they won't have anything to worry about.

This is in reference to when he says they didn't know where they were going with the warriors of Darkness in Heavensward patch content so sort of call it filler. I would actually disagree that the writers don't plan out what expansions happen and when. I've noticed a pattern pretty heavily because I went through the MSQ in the span of a year as opposed to 10 years like Arthars. In ARR, first we get a storyline with Yugiri and the Domans fleeing their home. Then afterwards we get Iceheart and the Crystal Braves. They set up two expansions later, then the next expansion. Same with Heavensward. They set up the Warriors of Darkness and the First, then the Ala Mhigan uprising. Stormblood, They set up Garlemald's continued assault, and the Ascians role they play in manipulating them, then everyone starts dropping like flies as we prep for Shadowbringers. It's hard to say if Shadowbringers does this too since we don't have Dawntrail yet, but given that Endwalker is the end to the main story, it would make sense to break that pattern here.

Bozja was a pretty nice way to burn time. It gave money, exp, there were two large alliance-like fights, and an okay story. Plus it was tied to the relic grind so lots of people were there. There was mostly fate farming but also Critical Engagements which are kind of like world bosses and duels which are hard fights that are done one on one. So there was a lot to do. I personally did not like it, but it did do a lot to pad out the filler months from Shadowbringers to Endwalker. It now being replaced with nothing is pretty jarring since Dawntrail is very far away so players that are caught up once 6.5 hits will have nothing to do for 8+ months besides farm old content and a lot of veteran players already got everything they wanted out of old content.
