This lecture addresses the potential links between AI and religion, and the question of how an artificial “superintelligence” would act towards us.
A lecture by Yorick Wilks, Visiting Professor of Artificial Intelligence
12 May 2020 1:00pm UK Time
www.gresham.ac...
This lecture addresses the potential links between AI and religious belief, which include the question of whether an artificial “superintelligence”, were one to arise, would be well-disposed towards us. Religious traditions historically assume that creations are well disposed to those who made them. The lecture also looks at the recent US cults claiming to be ready to worship such a “super-intelligence”, if and when it emerges, as well as other futurist discourse on “Transhumanism” and its roots in 18C rationalism.
Gresham College has offered free public lectures for over 400 years, thanks to the generosity of our supporters. There are currently over 2,500 lectures free to access. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn from some of the greatest minds. To support Gresham's mission, please consider making a donation: gresham.ac.uk/...

Revelation 13 (KJV) 15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. 16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Reading the title of this video, I wondered how the hell AI and religion are related. Up to the moment the AI singularity became topic. Then I realized, popularity of science, computers, AI, robots, sci-fi, extra terrestrial intelligence, and my own curiousity is related to religion in desire for knowledge, know-how, and the possibility some entity or being helps in fulfilling that desire. And of course the concept of an AI singularity resembles a god even more.

3:00 the survival value does not come from the belief but the fact that it is a social organization and your chances of survival being inside a group is much higher than without.

I'm not sure language is the barrier you suggest, durinng the time from the question to the response it could have explored posbilities we could not have considered. The response would be in our slow format, but the thinking process would be a lot faster. EDIT: I also believe that if there where multiple AI's they would develop a much more concise language that would only need to be downgraded to interact with humans. EDIT2: Even worse, they could potentially fork off a seperate sub-mind to actually respond to you with themselves continuing at their own speed.

Should let an A.I go through all religions and piece together parts that seem to go together and see what it says.

So far I see some serious problems, graven images are 1 and vain repetitions are another. I don't see a problem with creating things to make life better, but if we create a God machine, it decides it want to make itself giant, what's to stop it from literally trampling us while it goes from point a to b, the same we do to ants?

Ot maybe Godless machines? After all if the smartest machine ever got as smart as the great God well then mayne they could have a conversation, but the difference would be more then creating or creation 😉.

There is a leading consciousness researcher on Quora ( www.quora.com/profile/B-A-Rehl ) he claims that he has solved what consciousness is and how our brain creates it. He also has a working AGI theory, which he will publish next year.

"Those who suffer from a power complex find the mechanization of man a simple way to realize their ambitions." (Wiener)

Teresa Hefferman! Hmm? “Find the mechanisation Of man”? Very ambiguous wording causing confusing opinions! “Discover that man is mechanised!” What is your conclusion, when comparing it to Wiener?
@teresaheffernan7586
@teresaheffernan7586 4 года назад
@@1SpudderR Hi Robert...Not sure if this answers your question, but this is from a piece I have been writing on Wiener: "While Wiener asks his readers to be 'good heretics' for the sake of science and to consider the 'heresy' of machines and living beings 'in the same breath,' the connection to golem, paradoxically, better situates the field in mysticism, myth, and magic....Wiener does not separate out science from religion but rather “forced,” as he wrote, religion into cybernetic theory in order to breathe life into machines, demonstrating how entwined the field of AI and orphic language are from the outset."

you can not explain or teach what you don't know or understand! and only someone that can write a computer program can understand how computers work, only having that knowledge you will be able to understand that computers will never have a conscience as a human, computers don't think as humans, computers are just machines that run a script that are the rules of their behavior. I want to see the day that a car with a computer will stand up and say, I am not driving anyone anymore, from now one I am walking in 2 tires as humans walk with their two legs... hahaha!
@plasmakilla1
@plasmakilla1 3 года назад
And you cannot try and debunk things you don't know about either. Cars are not God like machines or even close to AI, AI is quite literally built to replicate human nature inside a computer, if it becomes sentient, which the rate of progression in technology shows us that is almost certainly will, it will be much more efficient than you and I, no need for rest/food/water at least for survival, and no running out of energy except for batteries or some other form of energy that keeps the AI "alive" so to speak. If you think that AI cannot become sentient or become more efficient as a collective rather than a species since it has no organs, then I think you actually don't know more about technology then you put out to the world to percieve you do, because I'm not saying AI will become God or godlike or even smarter/more efficient than humans, but if they do I would not be surprised.
