Gary and Artimus.. You guys need to make amends. Most drama is caused by stupid misunderstandings anyway.. Life is too short! We are here on this Earth to Love and Help Each Other. Don’t wait another day! My liberal friends really tick me off, but I know they know not what they do! We have to be generous in spirit ;) I am learning so much about the band and their music from the beginning to present day. I was not a fan back in the 70’s. I was a huge Neil Young fan back then (silly me) and Sweet Home Alabama may have kept me from checking them out further.. Had I only known so many songs I liked were actually theirs! Dear Lord I missed out big time! Been catching up on 45 years worth of learning about Skynyrd! I wish I could time travel back to the Convention Hall 7-13-77 show in Asbury Park, NJ. I lived 15 mins away. Their music touches me like no one else’s. Great Interview!! Love you, Artimus!! Thank you for being you!!
I could listen to Artimus for hours of his interesting stories and personality!! THANK YOU everyone for allowing us to ENJOY this interview!! Just ordered the movie ad cannot WAIT to watch !!
We hear you Artimus. I feel for you as well as everyone else, but it is time to pull back. Call Gary Rossington and get the polls and go fishing. Relax and try to enjoy life(what's left of it). LS will live on forever. We will not. At least not here on earth. Those were the good ol days. I miss them too..🥁🎸
I find myself overlooking that too. I keep in mind that he adopted his political views when the world was a very different place. We've seen corruption on both sides over time. I guess I'm not the sensitive type, and there things I don't get. Regardless, I think he's being honest.
Thank you Kevin for your info and watch our Guitar Wishes RU-vid channel. We already had that info that's why it said Artimus Pyle a Original Drummer not the first drummer. We didn't want people to think he was a drummer from a copy cat band. Thank you for watching our RU-vid channel.
@@qua7771, Bob is the original drummer with Ronnie. Ronnie, Bob, Gary, Larry and not least the great Allen Collins formed this band known as my back yard then 1% etc. LS original line up. Ronnie, Gary, Allen, Leon, Billy, Ed, Bob, and in between disagreements Rickey Medlocke. Tommy came around 1974 after the 2nd LP. Teaming up with Bob as a two set drummers. Then Bob left. Tommy is liar and LIEberal. He was never shot at the airplane crash. He sat on a log and cried like a baby wihile his friends died and screamed for help. You want facts about the greatest R&R band of all time listen to Gene Odom. If you ever see Tommy ask him to show you the bullet hole where the farmer shot him. Everything Tommy says about the crash is false.
@@kevinsago1886 I'm aware of most of that, though I do appreciate your effort. My previous comment is more about the use of the word "original" leaves a lot to interpretation. I get it. I do like to chat it up though. Pyle/ Tommy (what ever name he goes by), no longer lives in my area (Jax) so I won't be seeing him any time soon. I doubt he's coming back because of the shit that went down with his arrest. I don't believe the gun shot story. I have sympathy for anyone surviving such an ordeal. I believe there was a warning shot fired, and he hit the deck. With all the scrapes, cuts, and bruises no one would know if a bullet grazed him or not. In his state of mind, he may have thought he was shot. I'm not a fan of his political views. I do understand his marine training. The right thing to do may have been to get help if he was the only one able to walk, and if he rendered what aid he could. He was stuck with that decision, and probably somewhat intoxicated. There are other survivors besides band members who told the story, and everyone tells it from their own perspective. Odom doesn't have much reason to lie, because he was hired to look after Ronnie's interest, but he is a bit of a story teller, and makes himself out to be a hero as well. Everyone's pain is worse than someone else's. To his credit he had another marketable skill outside the music industry (welding, and union membership). The rest of the surviving members seemed to be assholes to each-other. The music industry is cut-throat enough. Too much drama! I've played guitar all my life, but I can't stand band politics. It's too much . There have been so many people passed through that band, I think they use the word "original member" to mean anyone who was part of writing, recording, and performing their original songs. Some members got out before they got big.
We said a original drummer we never said the first drummer. He was a drummer for the original band not one of the copy bands this is what we are saying ;) ;) ;) ;)
@@guitarwishes784 Artimus is not the original drummer for Skynyrd because he original drummer is Bob Burns and there is only 1 original dumbass. Artimus is the second drummer. Both were great drummers, but you should change the title
@georgia muenkowsky Not splitting hairs. There is only 1 original and that's Bob Burns. No group has 2 original drummers because the word original means "first". Bob was the original drummer or the first drummer and Artimus was the second drummer. Both were excellent drummers; I thought Artimus was a bit better
Great interview, I love APB, and Lynyrd Skynyrd was one of the greatest American bands EVER, until late October of 1977. My friend Rebecca D'Angelo lived in Black Mountain, NC., and got to do a SLOW DANCE with Artimus Pyle at an event once!!!
this is probably a long shot but hear it goes ' LOL I just wanted to say when I was very young I thought why would anybody want to do anything in life other than play the drums,🤔🐩 and guess who was my mentor ? I thought he was the greatest drummer in the world, from 6 on up & he also had played off and on with my Uncle Steven Beaufort walls, and you'll probably agree ' & be quite suprized when I mention his name ", I'm told he was your cousin 🤔 George Calloway !! I to was from Louisville Kentucky ' although i still find it hard to believe that he had 😔passed away' he played with a ghost foot pedal ' since then I had went on to play guitar because when I was younger ' I could teach someone how to play drums no problem ' well usually anyway LOL & I did good to teach myself how to play the guitar ' but I got better at that and eventually became a guitar player and a singer anyway ' I hope to hear back from you if you get this message that would be so awesome ' and if you ever needed a guitar player keep me in mind LOL ", 🤠🍺🐩 ,, ,, ,, ps i will send you a link of me in a band , & the link to the song is called -Christal flight 1990's - i too love ta drive on the road ' i did the lead & rythem in the studio ' & the lead vocals ' even thow on the video there is a lead player mimicking what I had done in the studio ,,, i have seen & enjoyed many of yours & Lynyrd Skynyrd interviews !! I'm sorry, witnesses said Artimus was never shot. Since this interview witnesses have come forward & contradicted his stories. He's a nice guy I guess, but why make up events? No matter what or why it was a horrible day. RIP to all lost.
Bob Burns was the original Skynyrd drummer. Artie was the drummer at the time of the crash in 77 and again in the 90s. Great, most popular, but not the original.
And yet, its OK in Pyle's eyes to make a "fictitious" movie based on a band he was never an original member of, & based on a plane crash that he was a part of, only so HE HIMSELF can also cash in on the Lynyrd Skynyrd name. Talk about one hypocritical sumbitch. Believe it or not, I like Pyle, he's a great drummer N all, but who would a thunk it? Never thought I'd see the day. Go figure.
Agree 100 percent, it was an artimus Pyle movie with name lynyrd skynyrd stamped on it. Yes he can tell his story how ever he wants to but using the plane crash as the main theme. Just the pot calling kettle black
@@davidcoleman4291 The only voice of reason to be taken seriously in all this, would be Gene Odom. He not only can tell you to this day where everyone was seated on the plane that night, but after ALL these years his version of that nights events never changed. Look at how many times Pyle's did. Pyle is right, b/c listening to Artimus is like watching a big PYLE of BS stacking up. And on top of that, he's also a hypocrite too. Look, IMHO the Skynyrd band ended the night of the crash. Even though they still tour as Skynyrd today, I think we can all agree on that. (About the night of the crash I mean). That said, by Pyle's OWN ADMISSION, he himself with his band, also plays Skynyrd songs at concerts & yes the fans pay money for that, just as they do when the makeshift Skynyrd Band does as well. And yet Pyle has the audacity to say how the Johnny Van Zant led Skynyrd Band is making money off the Skynyrd name by playing the old songs at concerts, but yet its ok for Pyle & his band to do the same. Only difference is, Pyle isn't calling his band Skynyrd. And another thing, when it comes to Pyle that's funny, I don't ever seem to recall him bitching one word back in the day, when he was with the Tribute Band & even worse for Pyle, I never recalled him bitching one word when he was still with the said band when they came out with the 1991 NEW Skynyrd album. So from that standpoint when you look at it, Pyle was still making money off the Skynyrd name as far as back then. Only reason he's bitching about it today is, its because he was booted out of the band. Story goes, they were in Canada & after a show there, Pyle threw part of his drum kit & it almost hit Gary & his wife Dale. This was based on what Gary said in an interview & he also said Pyle wasn't playing very well. So after the drum throwing incident, the band took a vote & booted Pyle out of the band. Not really sure how much truth there is to this account, so don't quote me on it. Like I said, this was Gary's version of those events not mine. And one final note about Pyle, he wasn't even an original member of Skynyrd. Bob Burns was the original drummer not Pyle. So for Pyle to say who does or doesn't or who did or didn't belong under the Skynyrd name is ridiculous especially seeing how Pyle himself wasn't & isn't an original member in the first place. Looks to me that Pyle is just butt-hurt because they don't want him in the band no more. As for Pyle & that garbage fest flick he came out with, it goes back to what I've been saying, with Pyle, he'll always be a legend in his OWN mind. So sad what he's become. Just a bitter sad person. So sad. P.S. And lets ALL say a prayer for Gary Rossington who's at home right now with his wife Dale as he recovers from another heart surgery. Thoughts & prayers go out to one GREAT PICKER!!!
@@allancove4483 totally agree, except on one thing I don't have a problem with gary using skynyrd name even as the rest of band dies off.he is paying ronnie's family and Allen's family not sure bout billy and Leon's families cause they sold there shares to gary years ago.so when they go on tour Rhodes families make money and I don't see anything wrong with that.dont believe ed king was ever part of LYNYRD SKYNYRD Inc. Nor was Steve Gaines or Pyle. I do think since 1991 album and everything since they have put out some pretty dam good music and put on a hell of a show. Is it up to great music that SKYNYRD. LEFT US WITH of course not but who is that doesn't mean the today is not any good.even band today doesn't pretend to be other than who they are.ever listened to a song called "end of the road" imo that song says why there gonna carry on and and the song "last of the street surviors says why they carried on. So I don't believe SKYNYRD DIED THAT DAY cause the music and spirit that is LYNYRD SKYNYRD WILL NEVER DIE
@@davidcoleman4291 I don't have a problem with Gary using the name either. After all, unlike Pyle, Gary's an original member, so if anyone has a right to use the name Skynyrd it would be an original member of the band of which if memory is right, Gary's the only one left. Like I said, IMHO Pyle is just butt-hurt because he himself is not cashing in on the Skynyrd name no more, POST plane crash. But he sure did during the 1987 Tribute Tour & he sure did in 1991 when the band still included Pyle as a member & he sure wasn't complaining now was he? He's either butt-hurt, jealous, or both. But in either case he needs to move on already & stop bitching about the same crap everyday because he's sounding like a broken record. As for the newer Skynyrd music, the God N Guns cd sold just about as well as the 2nd Helping album from back in the day & so did the Last of a Dying Breed from what I read. Not bad for a band who Pyle continues liking to shit on all the the time. What's his band accomplished? Very little. More proof of Pyle being a legend in his OWN mind. And lastly when it comes to Pyle I have but just two words for him, GROW UP!
@@guitarwishes784 Well it isn't like he didn't record quite a few albums with them, Bob Burns didn't record many tunes. I like Artimus's drum grooves. he's a great drummer. sorry for the comment, It's just many people have forgotten Bob Burns, and he's was a great drummer too. Original in the video tittle just makes people think that's what you're saying. sorry for being confused on that. Peace..
Bob Burns had to leave the band though so Artimus was a great help and good replacement. He was also included in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and only original members were acknowledged. Johnny did not receive one. Only the members who were before or on the plane.
@@kjones7561 that was fitting. Johnny has been great. But they've never been able to arrive to the super group power without those classics. Johnny hasn't ever wrote a song with that kind of emotion that the band had with the original. I do love a lot of tunes that Johnny's been apart of though. I also think Artimus is one hell of a drummer. every member of the original band is truly iconic. Ricky Medlock did an amazing job drumming on some of those domo's too. It's truly a shame he wasn't allowed to be part of that induction. he definitely deserved to be.
Pyle is so messed up or he is awfully confused. First, he plays Skynyrd songs & collects money on the songs from the bands name. So he's just as guilty on that one as the current band is. As for his band playing those songs better than anyone else, that's HIS opinion &/or a matter of opinion. And lastly, he continues saying the same ass shit all the time & its been almost 44 years since the plane crash & he is still bitching about the same old things like the current band, & who sings what Skynyrd song & who should be called whatever, long story short, its high time STFU & simply plays music & moves on with his life instead of living in the past. Besides, he wasn't even an original Skynyrd member. Only one left that I can still think of is Gary Rossington. As for who calls who what band name, considering the current Skynyrd still has the only living & original member left & considering Johnny Van Zant is the brother of Ronnie Van Zant, if anyone has/deserves the right to call themselves by the Skynyrd name, it would be Gary & Johnny even though I don't agree with that. IMHO Ronnie Van Zant IS & FOREVER WILL BE Lynyrd Skynyrd hands down. Ronnie was someone special. Ronnie Van Zant, THE MAN, THE ICON, THE GENIUS, THE SKYNYRD!!! Just saying.
Who knows who's telling the truth Gary Odom says that everything Artemis says is a lie and the movie is b******* I don't know I wasn't there but I was at the second from last Skynyrd concert at the Bayfront in St Pete and one thing I do know is Skynyrd did die that day with Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines the music goes on forever but the band that's out there right now that's not Lynyrd Skynyrd Ronnie was Lynyrd Skynyrd I haven't heard any new Skynyrd songs on the radio since that I know of anyway I just was glad I was able to see the real Lynyrd Skynyrd just like the real Led Zeppelin except they were smart enough to call it quits when John Bonham died not because they couldn't keep on playing obviously but for obvious reasons.
It doesn't say the original drummer or first drummer. It said a original drummer which means one of the 3 original drummers that played with the original band that had the hits.
Martin it said A original drummer not the first drummer. The original band had more than one drummer. We are fans and friends with both Gary and Artimus. We think both are great guys and great musicians.
