For The Metal Voice former Anthrax singer Neil Turbin spoke to Ex-Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle. Pyle spoke about working on a new movie he took part in about tragic and devastating plane crash of Lynyrd Skynyrd on October 20, 1977 . As well as the judge ruling to allow Cleopatra records to release the film and the post litigation drama by the surviving families and members of Lynyrd Skynyrd estate. He also spoke about his new album that he released with his son.

Artemus Pyle. I grew up watching my now late husband, learning how to play drums by listening to all the Skynyrd cassette tapes. (I was 15 and he was 16). All our lives , Lynyrd Skynyrd music. When he was dying of ALS , YOU, Artemus Pyle was coming to town. That was September of 2013 at The Landis Theater in Vineland N.J. My Joe got to meet his idol before he passed and had some pictures taken with you after the show.Semper Fi. He was one life that you my friend made a huge impression on(drummer). I love the compassion you have for other people's lives. Since you don't give yourself credit, I will. You absolutely deserve to be in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. You were a part of music history. A piece of Skynyrd.Each piece made it complete. God Bless you my friend.✌️🕊️🥁🎶

I’m glad your husband got to meet Artemus and see what he’s really like. He gets such a bad rap from some people, especially Gene Odom. He despises him and rips him every chance he gets. A friend of mine met him in Florida just before the plane crash and said he was so cool. Signed an autograph and chatted for a few. I have a drum skin signed by him and it says RRHOF 2006 Inductee as Drummer of Lynyrd Skynyrd . I’m sorry for the loss of your husband. My brother was a drummer and would have loved to meet him but never got a chance since he passed away many years ago. All the best to you. And to Artemus, keep on rockin’ in honor of RVZ!!

@liz3424
@liz3424 Год назад
@@rogerwaddell9475 what makes you say that. Basically his story is just as close as that other dudes story. I don't dispute anyone's word that was there. Every one can remember things that the other one don't quite remember it that way but with that said, I imagine it was a freaky experience as that plane went down. And at some point before Ronnie passed out he could've possibly shook Artimus hand. We weren't there so all we can do is listen to what they say. But I don't think anyone that wasn't there can call anyone that was there a liar. I mean, after all, how would you know?

It makes me so sad to hear the hear the animosity still remains between Artimous and Gary. I grew up listening to skynyrd even though I wasn't born until 2 years after the plane crash, but I never knew the history until recently. I have since, read everything and watched every video I could find and really think Artimous and Gary are both amazing, down to earth people and I think it's so sad that so much has come between them. They're the only two survivors of a tragedy and it's sad that they have let so much come between them.

Could not agree with Artimus more. Ronnie and Skynyrd played and sand REAL music that was NOT being driven by marketing and MONEY. Certainly performers deserve to be paid for their work but today music is ALL about production, packaging, marketing and money. While in the 70s music was primarily about the art and the expression. We just have a sad state of affairs regarding the music industry in America today.

I also read some comments about Artimus and Gary still not getting along, Thats to bad, life is to short, wish they could just work it out and bury the hatchet, Especially looking at it from the stand point that they are the last two remaining members.

The gentleman who was approached by Artimus at the crash sight confirmed he never shot or shot at Artimus. Over the course of time Artimus has embellished his account of the story without doubt. One interview he said he was shot in the shoulder ,questioned further he felt a pellet graze his shoulder.. during another interview he has 3 ribs popping out of his side, yet again the property owner confirmed no such injuries occurred.. he was scraped up with minor bleeding..but Artimus would have you believing he was bleeding like a stuck hog trying to stuff his exposed ribs back into his chest cavity as he courageously summoned help. Definitely an artful bull shitter.

Unfortunately , Rolling Stone magazine is more worried about whatever is flavor of the moment and no musical substance is required . Fortunately , the late-great Ronnie Van Zant does not meet Rolling Stone magazines low standards . His musical ethics and musical skill disqualifies him altogether . I realize Artimus' intentions are well meaning and true but the final result would most likely be a shitty hit piece on a legend lost . Rolling Stone has absolutely no use for any white rock legends with actual musical talent .

In the movie he didn't have any groupies on him like the others at there parties. He was released from the hospital a couple of hours that same day. @@davidcoleman4291 Artimus played on more pre-crash Skynyrd albums than any other drummer! These clowns touring around the country calling themselves Lynyrd Skynyrd are a bunch of money grubbing posers! And their stories are all bullshit too!

I've wished for years that Gary and Artimus would do something together before its to late. I got to know Bob a little , some years back when he still lived in Smyrna GA. He was such a beautiful soul and when Artimus reached out to play again you could see it was very special to him. He loved all the guy's and Bob could still get in the pocket and drive the beat. I cried when I heard he'd died and I'm a tough old sumbitch. RIP BOB GBNF BROTHER

Is it just a coincidence, or is that Neil Turbin who used to sing for Anthrax? Would be cool if it was. I always thought Fistful Of Metal was one of Anthrax's best albums.

Oh boy...there´s unfortunately a lot of things making him sad. Kind of bitterness about how things have happened! I saw his movie...but I´m not pretty sure, if I can belive everything about it! As an example: In that movie they are partying all the time...even at the airplane! They are drinking beer and Jack, till the end! On the OTHER hand, i heard Gene Odom , (who also survived the crash), say... they didn´t drink anything...and Ronnie was sleeping all the time, (unlike the movie)! So...What is true???

I like Artimus, but he was not shot by the farmer. The farmer did have a gun and did fire the gun. He fired it in the air as a warning shot because he had no idea who this guy was. Sorry Artimus, but you have to tell the truth. After I heard him say that I stopped watching this video. Billy Powell also told a few lies, then later retracted them and apologized for it. I'm sure thru the years there were quite a few little lies told from all of the surviving members. I don't think RVZ would approve of the lies and someone would be getting a beatdown.

Everyone on that flight that survived has a different take on what happened . I think the trauma accounts for that. Artemis does exaggerate but I don't think he means to lie
