I had a lot of fun making this video. Thanks to everyone that sent through a piece of work for critique - the response was incredible! In this video, I’ll be using and critiquing the artworks sent through in the past few weeks to illustrate ways to approach challenges that artists sometimes come across. I tried to select submissions where I could share points that are universally applicable. I hope this tutorial will be helpful, no matter what level you are at!

I love the way he actually goes in and improves the drawings rather than just talking about what could be improved or changed. It's really nice to see that in an artist who genuinely wants to help others. Great job!

All pieces Jono critiqued are beautiful--thank you to the submitters, and thank you, Jono! What a great learning tool this was. Watching this reminds me how the human eye thinks it sees much more than it does. We subconsciously fill in details where, in reality, shadow obscures. The very reason the chiaroscuro style was so very exciting (and still is, really) is that artists employed shadow with great courage. It lent drama, but also mimicked a profound reality that grabbed the viewer's very core. I so love that. And I feel that same excitement when I see Jono's work.

Critiques can be tricky. I generally get critiques from people with no art experience, which I find to be blunt and it definitely gets me down. The internet is sometimes a horrible place and people love to be rude. Your kindness towards each person's portrait is a breath of fresh air. I love all levels of art progression. And it always blows my mind where people start from. Thank you for this wonderful video. I think I'll submit some of my pieces to your email you provided. 🙃
@taitjones6310
@taitjones6310 4 года назад
of all the unlikely places, I've found the internet to be quite supportive. You can try joining different Google groups. In groups you will find people at a wide range of skill levels, and everybody is pretty supportive. I would avoid facebook though. Still, I've never had anyone (on the internet) make a negative comment about my art, which is mediocre at best
@amy-bethtaylor2656

Nice art work from the others, especially liked the Rhino (7:13) and although I agree with your critique of it I thought your blacking in was too much on it, you realised it and hurried on. Of all the pictures the Michael Jackson and the eye were pretty naff but to somebody that cannot draw they're all pretty good. ''Letting the details not be so dramatic?'' To an artist every detail can be dramatic JD. We all learn by copying others art, I like a picture because it appeals and I've no idea why. In my own case cartoons and animation float my boat with artists like Gilbert Sheldon and Paul Sample, I love their amazing cross hatch and shading work. Reading graphic novels and drawing comics, I wanted to do them but never did. Drinking and building work put paid to that. There will be some real revolutions in art as people adjust to life under covid and many are certainly discovering their inner Van Gogh. Your own work is stupendous Jono such detailing is astounding, I'd hate to hear your critique on my own stuff, had enough of that in school.

yeah I second to you.. too much detailing can makes a drawing often slight dizzy.. it would be awesome if it does have a wide scale.. like A0 or at least A1.. our eyes or vision is too subtle to distinguish the minor cringes layer by layer.. to me drawings are visibly beautiful just by giving emphasis on light & shadows.. ✔️ artistic pieces are catchy over hyperrealism to me at least..

Dono u should make a video of the step in making a drawing not the drawing itself but from the start. The person u choose to take a picture off. The reference. The material u decide to use. The idea extra things behind ur idea. After the drawing how do u seal it. How to frame it and present it. Plz I'm sure we would all like that

I liked all the additions you made except for the hawk, no offense because I am not a professional but I think the original was way better.
