I feek the word lazy, as many and all negative adjetives are counterproductive, because what it truly does is feed the guilt which keeps me from being peaceful and confident enough to just be and create anything. Being hard on ourselves and punishing ourselves into doing the "right thing" is the dogmatic and limiting approach to use. When what we need to realize is how free we can be if and when, we allow ourseves to be.

I am exploring now that connection between procrastination, laziness and being actually "perfectionist" Julia is right - I do not believe me and other "blocked" artist are lazy.. we are scared sometimes not only of failure but also what is even more interesting - we are often scared of SUCCEEDING.

I read, The Artists Way, many years ago, at the time I was on a spiritual journey, spending many hours a day in spiritual practice. This book was one of many hundreds on spirituality, that I had read. While reading this book I entered a state known as, quite mind, which lasted for a week. For those who do not know, quite mind, is when all the mind chatter stops, your mind becomes crystal clear and silent. It had such a profound effect that when I turned the last page, I went back to the first page and started again, this is the first book I have ever done this with, I wanted to pinpoint what had caused the spiritual leap. I do not claim it will have this effect for everyone, but it may help if you are genuinely engaged in spiritual practice. Creativity and spirit are one and the same, the more open you become to universal energy/spirit/God the more creative you become in art, writing, etc.

I was never allowed to make a mess as a child. In fact I never had paint, markers, crayons. . . Nothing artistic. I became an artist. Always wanted to have art supplies. My mother was a narcissist and the house had to look like a model home all the time. It wasn’t till I was nine and lived with my uncle that I started my creative journey. My father was very creative and tried his best to keep that spark alive in me. Thank you dad !

Life Changing practice. Heartily recommended and set me on a new path of creativity I could never have imagined at the start. From struggling with drug and alcohol addiction I then lost 2 stone in weight in 6 months. I’m now writing a new album of music and starting a new RU-vid channel. You make sense of the mindless chatter (the negatives and positives) - following them to their respective eventualities - exposing nonsensical self deprecation for what it is, whilst exploring and developing new opportunities. Be patient. It will come... 2 years and 2 months in now, I’m about to start my pages again for this morning

The most powerful message I got from this, was spirituality . In these last few days, I had more conversations with God , then all of last year. I can't explain this but it seemed like the more I prayed, unknowingly went into deep meditation. A peace and calmness would come over me. I am an artist, and in the state of calmness, ideas started coming to me, my creativity was heightened. God bless each and everyone of us in these trying

How? I love hearing these stories?
@shamelesschic9491
@shamelesschic9491 2 года назад
@@AmandaRestivo Not a story from the person you asked, but synchronicity is bringing you mine :-) Among other things, "The Artist's Way" helped me let go of perfectionism. That can be paralyzing cause you subconsciously feel you can never create something that lives up to your own impossible standards, so why even bother. And her message to "just keep showing up" (I'm paraphrasing) would keep me going back to my work to simply "edit" as I saw fit. (Less pressure that way.) I had started piano lessons at age 34, and taken singing & songwriting lessons before reading her book, but I definitely credit it, with its wealth of info & inspiration, for getting me through a super challenging effort to record my original music-ultimately with some of the best musicians in the business-and then do paid singing performances later. I'm not performing lately, but I gained so much confidence and "came into myself" doing all that. I'm contemplating writing a book now. Not surprisingly, one's inner critic & demons are always there when undertaking a new project. Oh well, just need to take baby steps. "Baby steps can change the trajectory of a lifetime." is from her book, too. I now live by those words! Here's link to my song "Charlene" -about getting through hard times. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UySwn6q7Zmc.html Best wishes on your creative journey!

@@AmandaRestivo real musicians and artists don't need to read a book. People are valuing something they're not. It's their deceptive EGO based on bad intentions. They want to be great, or perfect artists. Artists just do. They don't think. They are born an artist or musician. Sorry, but this is the harsh truth. If your intention is to be perfect and this stops you from doing art, then you're a pretty watered down version of an artist, essentially a fraud. The EGO is a funny thing. No one needs to read a book in order to do art. You either have a deep passion or you don't. The intention is never to be great or perfect. How delusional. This is why people are following what they EGO says they should value, which is art. This is an obvious sign that they're not actually an artist. Art isn't analytical. That's quite the contradiction. It's a deep passion. You either have it or you don't. People want to be artists, but not everyone is an artist.

Imposing your views upon others while completely negating that of others. Have you not learned anything of the countless missions & wars done in the name of your god / saviour? -- clearly not. ENOUGH. NO ONE WAS BORN TO CONTROL NOR BE CONTROLLED BY OTHERS. Haven't you heard? -- that if JC were alive today he wouldn't be a Xian. As for "pagan" it merely refers to pre-Xian. Yes, numerous other world views existed prior to the Big Book by the Boys club (of control & hatred in your case). So sad.

Loved this. I was told it was too late to learn piano since elementary school. I’m 26 trying it now. I catch myself holding my breathe out of fear. I’m two weeks in and sheet music no longer scares me! But I find myself tip toeing through this process watching myself asking myself ‘will I ever be good enough’ longing to put my lyrics I’ve written all these years.. Day dreaming. Try something new. Be fearless. You may just find yourself wanting to learn more and more is what I learned from embarking on this journey. I am an actor and I paint a little. Been doing that for years and still am plagued with fear. Fuck this fear it’s all ego. Of coarse I’m not going to be a master in a year. But I’ll be further than I was before :) Am I doing this right? Of coarse not you’re new and that’s wonderful keep making mistakes. peace and love to everyone

I pushed myself and started a painting but found no joy. I then realised it was because my mind was not ‘free’... it was constant anxiety. So before I could find my inspiration to draw I need to first tackle my mental health. So I started to do yoga, started detoxing, and slowly but surely I felt like my head is not as cluttered. I will definitely get the book. Thank you for this video.

Russell, thank you so much for sharing your segment with Julia. Lucky you, a one on one with Julia. Such a gift! Expect miracles and synchronicitys gallore. The Artist Way book literally fell on my feet when I was pulling another book off the shelf in a bookstore in 1998. I was an art student at the university with barely enough money to pay my bills but I had just enough in my wallet (including change) to purchase Julia Cameron's book. I DID!!!! At the time, one of my many part time jobs was gallery sitter in the University of Rhode Island Fine Arts Center Main Gallery. Two days after buying the book, the featured artist was adding final touches to his exhibition before the opening. He noticed I was reading Artist's Way and told me his whole career changed after finishing that book. He suggested it would probably would do the same for me. It was a solid motivation. IT DID THE SAME FOR ME!!!!! and Julia's messages continue to cross my path just when the lights seem to dim and I feel stuck, again and again.

Every word and phrase Julia says is so full of value and depth you have to literally close your eyes to digest the juiciness of her. You can see Russell closing his eyes knowing this. I'm reading / doing the book again. The Artist way " 2nd time now. I'm going to take my time as Julia is the same in the book. I have to keep stopping to really take in every morsel of dripping gold knowledge. X Nice one Russell. I'm in the Covid club right now on the mouth of Xmas.. Isolating over Xmas.. Well.. Time for morning pages and Artist dates alone in the forest and hills. X

The Artist Way is one of my favourite books of all time and the Morning Pages is just the cheapest and most effective psychological technique ever. Morning pages transformed my life. I wouldn't be in the place I am now if I didn't have morning pages!

SUCH A GREAT POINT! Laziness isn't anything but a fear of the unknown. It's all about convincing your brain to tackle something new, and continue to grow and learn as a person! Just like every other muscle in our body, our brain needs exercise to stay healthy and in its best shape. For that reason its crucial to keep stimulated even when we're all stuck at home! Keep up the amazing conversations Russell

How very disappointing to see so many stupid comments from so many absolute Twats! A brilliant interview with a lovely woman. Her book helped me years ago and I'm gonna go read it again as a result of this lovely chat.

I feel I want to live by the ‘artists way’ as religion. Somehow it hits my soul better than anything else I have heard. It’s feel all encompassing as if it speaks to my present being and the little child in me. Russell-this vid was like a love letter straight to my heart

I have a mind-individual called Coach Bob who gives me great subtle encouragement and pointers. It's such a excellent driver of pushing through doubts and procrastination. Julia gives good advice. I remember the Artists Way. It's a tool kit.

Wow, I've never knew I needed/was looking for, permission to have a relationship with myself. This has shifted my approach/ my understanding to my own expansion, even a greater perception to what that even is! And my handle on ALLOWANCE, which lys over my work.

If you need to read a book to do art, then maybe you're not really an artist. A musician doesn't need to read a book. They play music. I guess some people have a deceptive EGO. Valuing something they're not.
