Outstanding, ABM's technique is nearly ridiculous, there is not a single flaw or a single note missed. And so effortless and elegant on top. It is a shame that Celibidache has died, otherwise he would still be applauding!

Bravo! Absolutely phenomenal - pianism is the highest order. This is a powerful, dynamic, and athletic performance of a sizzling, rambunctious, and exerberant piece of music. The dissonance and thematic repetition creates such tension; the finale is sheer exhilaration and madness - I was absolutely cheering! Not to be forgotten is the Andante assai movement which was a tranquil oasis, played with sheer lyrical beauty and clarity. Thanks for sharing this riveting performance on RU-vid. When I hear music like this, it makes my spirit soar! ☆

Michelangeli's class and finesse are probably unrivalled in the 20th century. No wonder his recordings and videos are studied in the best piano schools...

18:47 - A truly unique moment With recordings Michelangeli and Celibidache always tried to create a scoop for the viewer to look through to that particular moment in time and prepare and control it to the extent that what the viewer sees and hears is absolutely perfect. Hence Michelangeli's obsession with preparing pianos, orchestration and camera angles to a degree where a mistake is close to impossible. So when a member in the orchestra suddenly coughs in the middle of Michelangeli's leading parts the magic of the performance and the soloist's and conductor's vision is broken. I cannot imagine what that poor musician had to go through after the concert was over. Celibidache's angry stare tells the whole story.
@teaCupkk
@teaCupkk 7 лет назад
I don't think the coughing comes from a member of the orchestra, but rather the audience. Celibidache was probably mad at one of the musicians, or a whole section - for ignoring something he thought was addressed, probably repeatedly, during rehearsals. Speculating here..

A entendre ABSOLUMENT!!!
