Extraordinary. Beethoven 's rythm with proper gravity fully adequate for a concerto in minor tonality. To achieve this you need two geniuses other than Beethoven. ABM and Carlo Maria Giulini fulfil the task to the end

@@RaineriHakkarainen U can't have a thousand people on a "best" list. Defeats the entire purpose and points to the essential fallacy of such an approach. We each respond to musicality differently and thus will prefer some performers over others. For me, Arrau's humility, tone, timbre, pace etc evoke a deep response of complex emotions. Others will prefer others. That's all we can say about music and all the arts for that matter The notion of best is an exercise in futility. Just sit back and enjoy immersing yourself in the music Cheers from Oz
I am in awe at ABM's sublime playing. I have never heard anything that can compare with it. He is in a league by himself. That second movement is INCREDIBLE. The touch, the rhythm, the tones, the pace are astonishing. Beethoven would be honored to hear his 3rd piano concerto played by ABM.
@@RaineriHakkarainen may be even you and Mickey Mouse play it better? You are like any ordinary little insignificant inhabitant of this pianet who believes to be in title to judge things much bigger than himself and makes a sport-like rank of anything to asses its value as you know no other way to understand the outer world. Stick to pop music, that is your field, and do not dare to talk about something far beyond your reach.

@@RaineriHakkarainen Strange, I could say that about Richter, perhaps, not necessarily, it's just that a large part of what you said about ABM fits Richter to a great degree in my opinion, whilst being completely inapplicable to ABM's emotional, soulful interpretations coupled yes, with a superb, highly unique musical technique. Actually, Artur Rubinstein has been my favourite pianist for ages, and I dearly adore Emil Gilels, Horowitz, Ashkenazy, but you just cannot put ABM into any category, his art is too magic. I'd say that he is the Live Emotion that *feels* the notes as if they have a physical shape and form. So while I enjoy listening to the majority of the pianinsts you've mentioned, ABM definitely stands alone, to discover such a perfect genius was a real blessing. That he is/was so severely underrated speaks more about the general audience musical taste than of his talent. It's similar to the Three Tenors case, where only Domingo had an absolutely full right to be this lavishly venerated by the public, and there are many more amazing tenors that far, far surpass Pavarotti and Carreras. Anyway, thank you for your opinion.

Oh! how naturel Beethoven piano concerto No.3 it is! especially dotted note length is so graceful, graceful, graceful. I would feel his rhythm is veryvery beautiful adequacy for No.3 heart and soul. so simple through to the first movement. (90yrs.Japanese) sorry strange English.
Giulini and Michelangeli give a specific time to each note and the secret of the real comprehension of the music which passes through the critical perception of this time. Magical & everlasting in Beethoven's concerto No.3 ! Thank you to Roger B for this video- concert

Un Must!
Were his pianos 'doctored'? Absolutely not. It is true, he went to amazing lengths to have them as perfect as possible but it was of course all within him. Utterly unbelievable. Truly unique.

The best conductor of the 20th century at directing orchestras in piano concerti, Giulini, accompanies the greatest pianist of that century, ABM, in one of the world's master works with one of its finest orchestras, and what happens? The sound recording team make a complete travesty of their job and we the listeners are robbed of what was probably a superb musical experience. What a tragedy!!
