Arwa Damon: ‘Absolutely egregious’ that western world can’t pressure Israel to get aid into Gaza 

It's impossible to get one's mind around the horror and scale of this catastrophe. Israel must be held accountable for these crimes against humanity.

We didn't just fail to pressure Israel, our institutions by and large loudly defended them and chose to ignore the evidence from the very start. That is the difference between this and the bulk of genocidal actions by states. Noone was in any doubt about the lack of food, or the fact Israel cut off clean water to the entire population six months ago, destroyed the sanitation systems. Even the indiscriminate bombing was identified very early on by military analysts and journalists. The demographic profile of the victims was stressed by MSF medical staff over and over again both in testimony to the UN and in interviews with journalists. The phenomenal death toll of journalists and aid workers was all documented, it just wasn't consistently reported, nor did it change the language used to frame the narrative. The west chose, in effect, to endorse everything Israel did with only the most tepid of conditionality. And that is, in the end, why no one can believe Biden's anger at Israel, because he knew precisely what was going on for six months before that. This isn't about Trump vs Biden, Trump made this whole situation more likely through the Abraham accords, and obviously he is worse. but it would be hard to be much worse than Biden has been in the past half year. And it won't be that history remembers that as such, it'll be that in a year's time when the full picture is much more plain, we'll all know precisely what has happened. And most of us will remember the phenomenal disconnect between how western populations felt, and how western media and political institutions behaved, for the simple reason that that tension has been abundantly clear to most people throughout.

It's absolutely NOT a question of can't - it's a question of won't. It's been a week now since Genocide Joe issued some for of ultimatum to Israel and still northern Gaza is seeing no aid. Israel says it will open the northern border - but it's a stall tactic because it should have already been able to be opened. 322 trucks were let in elsewhere, far below the 500+ trucks needed daily. Meanwhile people are still STARVING AND GOING WITHOUT WATER AND PROPER MEDICAL AID.
