I loved the loud, symmetrically spaced 11 bladed Fenestron's sound, but of course the noise whiners got their way and the asymetric quiet Fenestron replaced all of the original symmetric ones. Such a shame. Now as far as the Dauphin's go, I like the EC-155 with it's five bladed Spheriflex main rotor head, and the new Eurocopter/Airbus H160 is one nice aircraft! With the five bladed Spheriflex rotor and the new Blue Edge blades, and the Blue Edge shaped Fenestron blades, now that's cool. The RACER, H160 version of the X3 is cool as all get out. No tail rotor, instead two pusher props on winglets, driven by drive shafts from the engines which are powerful Rolls Royce/Turbomeca RTM322's at over 2,200 shp each. The props control torque/yaw, and propel the aircraft past 250 kts with the main rotor RPM's reduced by up to 20% to reduce advancing blade tip speed and retreating blade drag, that's an impressive aircraft.
I miss the original symmetrical blade spaced Fenestron's sound. Now that was cool sounding. These new asymmetrically spaced Fenestron's sound is not bad, but a little tame for my taste.
it seems like so much fuel and and time is wasted for a helicopter to take off ? i don't see airplanes go thru all this ? I might be wrong i understand because i don't know about this
