Still hurting of my narcissistic mother of physical abuse as a child and teenager. Humiliation I suffered is just as painful now. I am 67 years old. How did you do it? Have been trying for years.....

This is a very good question. I wondered and I think this parable not only covers mercy but understanding judgement as well. As Jesus compares the King to the Kingdom of Heaven, it kind of explains the King to be like the Father. Forgiving (this we see from the pardon of the 10000 talents) and Benevolent till the final day. Conversely that might indicate the hardened nature of the servant. First he may have misused the privileges borrowing incessantly taking advantage of the King's nature . But when the King did decide for repayment, in his time, the hardened nature prevented him from fully appreciating the Mercy of the King. This is what happens when we are unforgiving despite all the gifts God gives us , especially, eternal life through Jesus. It shows our lack of understanding of this single great act of Mercy in the story of existence. I find this part quite intriguing, how someone, who has had and possibly still has a large chunk of the (6000 X 10,000 ) Denarii was greedy for the 100 Denarii. That before Mercy was shown he may have been involved in such acts elsewhere. And because he was now free of debt he continued that same lifestyle. But because the great act of Mercy was now done to him. That is where the judgement was also meted out to him.

and of course, Fr. Mike covers this near the end of his homily! In my anger, even rage, forgiveness is the last thing on my mind. However, I am called to forgive, as God has forgiven me. Still, for me this usually takes time.

Forgiveness does not mean an invitation to continue to mistreat you…some folks we have to forgive for our sake, then love and pray for them miles away…

Father said forgiveness doesn't mean you make yourself a doormat. You don't have to expose yourself to toxic verbal abuse. I hope you can live in peace.

Forgiveness frees the victim from offender. Atonement in Purgatory is the Justice God promises the victim that the offender will owe upon Judgement day. Trust in His Mercy. Trust in His Justice. Free yourself from the offender and move on.

There are many commandments to Forgive (Mt. 18-- forgive them 77 timets, etc). Where does it say that the Devil is excluded from this forgiveness? You've been given a Divinity great than the Devil, that's why He hates you... that's also why you are capable of Forgiving the Devil.

Matthew18:21-35 Forgiveness is loving the same way God loves us.

Perhaps the issue here is he's referring specifically to past tense, what the person has done, rather then what their doing now or are going to do? So, if someone's hurting you right now, don't accept it and fight for it to stop, but if it's in the past, accept the consequences?

For a pedophile to go to Prison is the beginning of Justice, even God wants that... where it goes wrong is most people don't want Justice for both the victim and the offender... they only want Vengeance. We cannot condone or desire Vengeance on others as Christians.
