Teachincally Almost all of Ash's Kalos team was super weak to fairy Greninja Hawlucha Goodra Noivern. Hell most of it was weak to electric Greninja Talonflame Hawlucha

I wouldn't be surprised if Gladion silvally with his Z move actually beat Alan Charizard x Illima has eevee which is actually like Ash pikachu despite not evolved yet it still beat team skull and their admin plumeria, he has mega kangaskhan too, lol kiawe is a rival that seems always on par with Ash, not to mentioned his charizard who actually done something good against Legendary pokemon Tapu lele where paul get his ass beaten so badly against legendary golems, Kiawe and Illima can easily beat all those non main rivals of Ash like Barry, Conway, Nandon, Stephan, Tierno. Guzma easily can compete with any of Ash rivals, his Scizor beat a mega evolution in normal form, and his Golisopod was totally on another level easily blocking z moves which can even beat mega pokemons, if Golisopod emergency exit didn't activate at wrong time Ash could've lose that battle.

Paul is the actual strategic trainer have more Pokémon in the bank when he needs them and always rotating them gladion best move strategy wise is counter🤷‍♂️

BW did keep the formula for what we fans like to see in the anime and give some reason so keep watching it. SM anime has just too many pointless episodes and too little battles ( long before the league started )
