Man, shout out to the tour guide. This industry needs to be regulated, I have seen lots of videos online of Tourists being misled by non-South African tour guides. This Tour guide knows what he's talking about.
Thank God you took out a South African to give you a tour Cos there are people from other African countries giving people false information, skewed information
Yeah foreigners don’t have that pride in our townships. It’s juss foreign Uber drivers that give out Wikipedia information claiming that 84% of South Africans are living in extreme poverty 🙄 SMH. Anyone can edit WIKIPEDIA information damn twarts! 🚮
YAH willing, S.A. is my new home. I love the street/subdivision tours. I don't care what the haters say about our Motherland, we are returning home to the land of our ancestors. We will come together as one. Ezekiel 37:16-17, says the 2 sticks shall be joined one to another. I LOVE MY FAMILY ALREADY. WE ARE ALMOST HOME....THE GREAT AWAKENING IS UPON US AS WE PREPARE FOR THE GREAT EXODUS.
Absolutely most of us who grew up in townships but have moved to surbubs or affluent areas still go back to the townships. The connection is too deep you just can't take out township life from us, it is vibey and groovy
I love that you have a real South African taking you on this tour. African immigrants from other countries have started moving into this space, but unfortunately they're not us. They end up misrepresenting us to international tourists like yourselves & giving out false info about us & our country.
What I hate most, they call Soweto a slum area, even i_am_marwa the Kenyan you tuber was shocked coz he actually admitted that he expected to see a slum as that's what he was told about Soweto
People still think Soweto its all matchbox or all townships , SA is too diverse i wish you could also visit villages you see its not huts and and forest and cows only..hope you passed by maponya mall, its owned by a black man Richard Maponya as most people ask if black SAns own anything in SA
Only coming across this now. Very beautiful Asha, and I do see you living in one of those houses and being part of the community. Great tour guide there, he's told our story in the best possible way. A little late it the day on my end, but welcome home Asha 🤗 you're such a great spirit.
I am so impressed Asha best way to understand the country and it politics is to get to know it history. How you see the layout/landscape of Soweto is similar to how other townships across the country are set... Township life is very much alive and has a vibe, most people who grew up in the townships and have progressed to the surbubs or affluent areas still have a strong connection to township lifestyle. The sad part is family settings were affected when men were going to the cities looking for job opportunities leaving their wives and kids on the rural areas. Many would have another family in townships which is strange and make us (south africans) different from what you'd picture for normal African family setting. Next you need to see the rural landscape just to have an idea how diverse this country is
That first location: Diepkloof Ext... my childhood neighbourhood. A quick fact about the area; it was established in the early 80's as a new development for Soweto's so-called 'nouveau riche'. At one stage it boasted arguably the biggest concentration of Upper-class/high income households in Soweto, as most prominent Doctors, Lawyers, Bureaucrats and Entrepreneurs built their mansions and resided in the area.
Hi Asha, nice jobs for showing Soweto to the whole world.I never thought Soweto is nice añd peaceful. Please keep showing us different places in Johannesburg.I am planning to visit this summer and I will be interested in buying an apartment for my retirement.
Wat they don't tell u in the news is that places like Soweto have activities n care givers that visit the elderly n those who retired n activities includes gym, sewing n book sessions n all this is for free!
Oh by the way Soweto has Africa's biggest Stadium (FNB) and Africa's biggest hospital ( Baragwanath hospital) .Sometimes I laugh when my fellows from the rest of the continent misrepresent it by calling it a slum.its a slum to some extent but not entirely so.
Hello Asha, It's so nice seeing you have made it to the Mother Land. I'm so happy for you...I just discovered and subscribe to your channel yesterday. I Love it! Much Love from Cali! :-)
Neighborhood is much more safer than estates. We have "Umphakathi" Zulu word which translate Community. Anytime and any moment when there's any sort of altercations the Community comes out in large numbers with any sort of ammunition to defend their hood.... Just scream you will hear "Vimba" in a direct translation means Catch but in this context means Catch him/her.
Soweto has changed a lot from the 2 room it used to be in the 70's. The is a middle class that expanded their two rooms to double story houses. Some one once told me if u live in Soweto u go to downtown if its neccessary yet Soweto has everthing u need. Who lives downtown? Its a lot of African Immigrants and middle class SA in the surburbs. Downtown joberg u find a diverse African community...
The majority of Coloreds sound distinctly Colored. Not always the same but Colored. He most certainly might be from Eldorado Park. There is a certain way of speaking that only Coloreds recognize when you are an outsider in certain Colored areas, like Pretoria vs Newclare or Kimberley vs Boksburg.
He's right about houses back in the day. No matter how long you stayed there or how much you were willing to invest in it, by law people could only rent and weren't allowed to own them. Some could lease land and build their own homes, but it was contingent on renouncing SA citizenship and acknowledging the "homeland/Bantustan" citizenship farce.
😂😂😂😂 I like it when you say you can live in Soweto, yep that's a great Kasi to stay at 🎊🎊🎊🎊🎉🎉🎉🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦Well Enjoy South Africa, I can't wait for you to visit Sharpeville my Kasi 💪💪 the 21st of March it's Sharpeville day now known as Human Rights Day
Ooo I wanna see you.....you should take a weekend away to Port Elizabeth when you are this side...a very quiet city not like the busy Joburg... Eastern Cape is very quiet in general....also the home of Mandela and Thabo Mbeki...think about it!
