(By Brian Chambers, Huntington Herald Dispatch)We launched our ride from the starting line of The Herald- Dispatch West Virginia 5K Championship on Veterans Memorial Boulevard with the permission of race coordinator Pat Riley. When I called Riley in April and asked him about letting us partner with the 5K run, he saw the request as a perfect opportunity to help raise awareness about the Homeless Veterans Resource Center, the recipient of our fundraising efforts.
The Resource Center, located at 924 6th St., is run by the Department of Veterans Affairs. It brings services offered to veterans -- male, female and families -- who are either homeless or at risk of becoming homeless and puts them under one roof. The $24,000 that we have raised for the facility will be used to purchase bus passes and necessities that a former servicemember needs when they are placed in permanent housing, among other things.

There is no group called Huntington Cycling Enthusiasts. Not all of the riders were from Huntington. All of the riders featured in the segment are members of Ashland Cycling Enthusiasts.
