Well done! I often present this AACAAN from Asi Wind during close up shows, in my opinion it is the best ACAAN, the most direct and unequivocal. The only difficulty is the calculation and finding the card quickly, with practice you can do it. With a camera and sitting it's more difficult, congratulations on your beautiful presentation. 👏👏👏🤩
I love this trick, I find my issue is when the move is performed, im not fumbly enough with it. When Asi does it, it really just looks likes hes trying to get all of the cards out of the box. Many call Asi the magician's magician, i think his Acaan is the magician's Acaan. If your deck is "ready" I think this is the best Acaan to do, however often times I find myself not ready, so I will look at the Dani DaOrtiz Acaan people are mentioning here. Nice video Josh. Do you plan on uploading on your other channel?
It's the best published ACAAN that my research has discovered. My favorite to perform for a real audience is still, "A Card and a Number," by Al Baker. My favorite impromptu version is Dani's A.C.A.A.N. I do not plan on posting on the other channel at this time. 👍
I bought Asi's download hoping he would explain the technique for riffling before the cut. But he doesn't. I'm supposed to just get good with riffling with my thumb?
Yeah, just explore with different parts of your thumb, and see what works best for you. I find it more difficult when I'm near either end. It can get a bit clunky. If I need to cut at 49, and I see I have 48, I will start to pull and use my left thumb to slide back card 49 while my right thumb repositions to grab it and glide it back into the box. That helped give me more confidence when I'm near the ends.
Very Good Josh! I just learnt this recently myself. The only challenge I am having right now is that its too good and too fast, so I am not able to nail the presentation so much. While this is objectively better than other Acaans, the ritual from Dani Da ortiz for example, the latter gets better reactions due to the long time taken to do it, and how it builds up anticipation. What do you think, and do you have any suggestions?
I think there is some validity to that statement. If you rush through the presentation, it can certainly fall flat. This trick is incredible and they will never know how much time you put into researching, studying, and practicing to find what feels like the holy grail to a magician. My suggestion would be to borrow the idea Asi Wind used with his presentation on the download for this trick. If that’s not your style, then slow it down and talk about the holy grail of magic. Describe this incredible Berglas effect that every magician is in search of. Then, use as many people as you can in the selections. Make everyone feel like a part of your act. Have one person select a suit. Have another select a value. Have a 3rd select the number. Have a 4th deal the cards. Make them feel invested, and it will bring out the joy in the room. Otherwise, save it for the people who you know really love card tricks at casual get together’s with friends.
Another idea: present the worst version of the trick, and then at every step make it more impressive. So "would you be impressed if I could find a card in this deck? ok, how about I shuffle and box it first? would you be impressed if I could find the ace of hearts? ok, what if you name any card? if I could tell you how far down your card is? ok, what if you name the number?" etc. I don't know how this particular acaan works, but it's always nice to let them do as much as possible themselves. Like having them deal off the cards to the count, if it doesn't involve any 2nd deals or whatever. Although that does always come with the risk that they'll mess something up.
I can't for this one as it belongs to Asi Wind. You can get the download at Vanishing Inc. for $30 or find it in his books, Chapter One and Repertoire.
