The Filipino Farm Workers voted to strike, but they had to convince Cesar Chavez, the leader of the Mexican workers, to join them. The task was left to Larry Itliong. Together Filipino and Mexicans mounted a historic and victorious grape strike that electrified the world. #AsianAmPBS #APAHM

I was told by my parents that the Philipinos pioneered the Farm workers movement. But bc they were from so far away, they became outnumbered by the Mexican ppl, who were closer geographically. We respect what the Philipinos did for the farm workers. I went to Cesar Chavez funeral. When we passed the Philipino civic center, the Philipinos were there, waiving the USA flag, the Philippines flag and the Farm workers flag, it was beautiful and touching.

Being hispanic and working in the grapes/raisin industry and all related agricultural work for the past 15 years of my life, both me and my dad followed and supported Ceasar Chavez and the labor movement up until his passing. I only wish I could have met Larry Itilong in person as I did Ceasar Chavez but he was before my time. I never heard of him up until I became husband to a beautiful Filipina. I watched videos of filipinos working in the grape industry witch is how I learned of Larry Itilong. Union organizing is still in my heart but I can only share my knowledge and experiences of the past due to my age.

Mexicans and Filipinos have a lot in common. They were both colonized by Spain and both won their independence. I know many Fil/Ams in the states. My son played Little League Baseball and one of his team mates was a Fil/Am. His parents were both born in the Philippines. A couple of my co workers were Filipinos who were Naturalized in the USA. One had a son who was born in California and who joined the USMC. When his father asked him if the US and the Philippines would go to war would he fight for his country? Without hesitating he answered " Yes". His father then asked him if he meant he would fight for the Philippines? His son answered, "I am an American, I'm a Marine, I would fight for the USA"

Because no one listened to Bernie Sanders for decades so political bribery is still not REALLY illegal so....companies like National school publishing company McGraw from Texas keeps bribing state legislators to allow them to omit a lot of history that make “white patriot” people look bad. Like when a us military authority made up a story in the newspapers that there was gold in the north west in the Black Forest fully knowing that when white Americans would see that newspaper and try to look for that gold with their entire families, they would be trespassing Native American territory breaking a treaty that basically said, “given history tensions and injustices against the natives, if either side crosses, it’s war..”. The US military authority knew a war would begin which is exactly what he wanted in order to gain access and control of that land. (He knew the us would win because the us always won land with guns against natives without guns) Yes, the US military sacrificed white American families just to gain power and control. This is still the truth of the us military today. You should watch the show Amend on Netflix that just came out. It’ll show you things you and I never learned in history class. It’s amazing!!!

They like the diversity because that would mean no Disneyland no Hollywood no Chinatown no Dodgers etc. The problem with your kind of Mexican (not all) is that you been treating us pinoys like foreigners even though we were born and raised in the same neighborhood as you. You claim that Chicano culture as all yours when pinoys were also part of that zoot suit style. I know I’m kinda off topic but I said it. Nowadays you got hipsters and real foreigners around.
