October 25th is Larry Itliong Day! 📣 Manong Larry Itliong was a Filipino American labor leader who organized farm workers along the West Coast, beginning as early as the 1930s. He became well-known in the 1960s and 70s for spearheading the Delano grape strike and the United Farmworkers movement, teaming up with labor leaders such as Manong Philip Vera Cruz, Cesar Chavez, and Dolores Huerta to demand farm workers' rights.

Absolutely not. There is little benefit to lining the pockets of others while unions dont stick up for their own employees (former union family) and go on to line the pockets of politicians. And Latinos have controlled the narrative regarding CA labor efforts for decades, was white supremacy to blame for their neglect of Itliong?

@@Joe-pc3hs so instead of changing what’s going on inside the Union, you didn’t? Changing anything is not a spectators sport. You want something to change, you have to be in there to change it just like him. Unions are not perfect but you have to have the right people in the ranks to make it affective just like in politics, etc

@@renkanazawabluedot Yeah, change an entity that not only has grown beyond worker control, but also thats created a bureaucracy and support system to shield itself, all by the hand of those who the unions are trying to keep quiet? Get real. Funny that was the only point you could address. I bet you wouldnt blame Itliong for not holding the UFW to task for ignoring Filipino workers after their spotlight.

Unfortunately, popular Hollywood movies about this had minimized the importance of Filipino manongs during the labor strike in California WHILE overemphasizing the Mexican players. Well not surprising the popular movies were directed by Mexican directors. 😑

HISTORY FOR GENUINE PROSPERITY. I had in my end notes for this. Thanks again. I hope Pampanga know they had people like Manong Larry. At first, his surname and middle name sound like the surnames of some people here in my province, it's just that oftentimes, I feel ostracized from the modern lowlanders because I belong to a highland tribe - or maybe it was just me and my fam. Hope more people know that we are actually more intertwined...Idk how to say that better

This is very inspiring and crucial to fellowship with my biological parents are unwed immigrants. My biological grandpa is documented from Santo Domingo ilocos Sur in the Philippines. They were displaced victimized slandered detained illegally and taken away to work on the plantation in Waipahu Hawaii where my mom attended school. I was born in Maui Hawaii by a midwife and placed in a horrible foster care folks system and teased confused me constantly stalking exploiters. I reconnected with my biological mother in San Diego California and was jeopardized by my spouse's dislike and discrimination against her heritage our estranged relationship is a horrible day to recover from.

I'm watching a RU-vid channel on life style in the Philippines areas. The RU-vid video shows many people who value the custom of the Filipino ancestors heritage. This is incredible information on indigenous people of the Philippines area where the life is documented to be honest. I'm enjoying the memories cherished of my ancestors heritage

The disparity of course poverty is documented in truth history of my ancestors heritage familia in the Philippines area. I'm assuming that matters cause my biological mother has been indoctrinated and assimilation to fellowship with the agenda of the USA government authority. I'm hopeful for my overall reconnect with the Philippines people

Andre Sibayan's illustration the biographical book Journey For Justice is an injustiace to the historical stature Larry Itlion (and Vera Cruz) deserves, because of how Sibayan's illustration of Chavez in front of Itliong and Vera Cruz sadly and ironically mirrors the way the book's subject was historically forgotten, intentionally ignored by Chavez' father, and undervalued in favor of Chavez. I wish the Philippine community, historians, and/or the Philippine activist leaders had told their story much sooner, and I prefer to buy any other book on Itliong other than Journey For Justice because of the illustration.
