I use Takumi sen for all of my workouts and for me they feel so comfortable. After I use them enough to run in them, I used them for walking and they feel amazing. To me this shoe and also prime x strung are be far the best for me liking!

Glad it helped. Keep in mind though… Adidas Adizero running shoes seem to be using at least two last. The Takumi Sen 9 fits long and narrow, like a classic adidas racing shoe…. While the Adios 8, Adios Pro 3 and the Boson 12 seem to use a wider last which give more midfoot width. They all have narrow heels though. I hope this helps. Also it could change in 2024 as well… but for the 2022/23 models the above is accurate.

Forefoot worst especially is vital to a shoes use, racing or training. So I’ll always discuss it whenever I talk about a shoe. I don’t know how you can’t. Glad it’s useful for you! 🤙🏻

Asics plates are the stiffest I’ve ever run in. Worst than old Adidas carbon plated (Adizero Pro).

Very good video and comparison! Ι have the takumi sen 8 and the magic speed 2 and I love both shoes. I use them for any kind of fast training, especially intervals(400m,800m 1 km repeats). The takumi sen is really very tight like his big brother Prime X(which I use for fast long runs during marathon training and at the same time save my nike invincible for regular easy long runs). Since I recently bought the metaspeed edge I don't plan to buy the ms 3 although I'm tempted after I watched all the positive reviews.

If you like the Edge you’ll love the MS3. However, if you already have the edge you don’t need the MS3.

My only caveat regarding the review... is that it may need a part 2. I like the level of details you go into, as the running is not just 1 exercise. But... same with the shoes... in respect of their longevity and break in time. Based on the stories I have heard about Takumi Sen 8 it would be interesting to know you opinion after 100km/miles on both shoes. TS appears to change its characteristics over time becoming much more pleasant. Then I assume a drop of performance must hit it as well. So, having these 2 great shoes, it would be great to come back them after a while and say - are the more lively or dead... ;) A side note. Having no chance to train in either of them, I plan to wait for TS10. I expect same small but great changes that has been introduced in Boston and Adios. With a bit wider front + maybe a strung upper + few more subtle MAGIC changes - i hope it could become less of niche shoe, without loosing the speed it promises now. So, the Magic no3 wins now, I just don't give up on Adidas. (in the mean time running in the fast Nikes :D )

You are right. Running shoes do change over time. I do come back to shoes in individual reviews, I have a few 100 mile reviews on my channel. Over time I will come back to many more (I am a 4 month old channel, afterall.) In regards to Adidas...Lightstrike Pro does "break in" overtime. Though with the TS9 I won't be spending much more time in. I will be back with long term observations on the Adios 8 though and look forward to the TS10 and AP4. My next video will discuss the TS9 and TS10. Stay tuned. I will also be back with a long term review of the Magic Speed 3. But, in my heart, I'm still a Nike guy.

Just as a personal aside to a great analysis, my plantar fascia cannot tolerate the stiffness, inflexibility of any shoe - w/ or w/out a plate - yet, my old ts8 is doable up to only ~ 3 mi. On the other hand, a too soft/ sloppy midsole elicits the same PF reaction! Bizarre. That said, even w/the rods, my feet seem to be at home in the new adios 8. Also, could I get your thoughts on nitrogen-infused midsoles? My hyperion tempos always seem to go “solid” rather quickly, and I’m a lightweight. Totally enjoying this channel.

Interesting. I have a history with Plantar Fasciitis and cannot imagine even trying to put my foot in the TS9 when I have a flare-up. The only shoe I can fully comfortably run in is a Alpha Fly 2 when I do have PF… though I bet the VF3 would work for me now as would the Invincible 3. Luckily I think I’ve dealt with my PF this season and so far no issues (knock on wood). I’ve never run in the Brooks or Puma nitro foams… but I have run in a few supercritical foams. They do feel “firmer” but “livelier” when pushed. But I’ve never spent enough time in them to have a stronger opinion. Sorry. Thanks for the kind words. 🙏🏻

which both of this shoes are good for slower pace? you know sometimes we use this for daily training tempo but will drop to some slow easy runs. which one more suitable?

The Magic Speed 3. It is actually fairly capable for easy running, it wouldn’t be my first choice, but it works surprisingly well. It’s excellent for tempo and fast work… obviously. The large toe spring with FFBlast+ bounce keep you rolling forward very smoothly.

I did a long hard run in the Adidas Pro 3 today. Now after the run my Achilles Tendon (left) is very sore. I think that I might be slow for it.. Also I have following my Stryd app 20 minutes warmup and 20 minutes cooldown so actually 40 minutes at snail pace... Maybe need a more stable and flexible shoe? Adios 8?

If it’s your Achilles it may be the change in drop or the massive toe spring loading your heel more. I’d consider those first before a new shoe. The A8 is more stable, due to being lower stack and more flexible under foot… but I doubt it will solve anything directly for the issues you described.

The AP3 is a 6.5mm drop and with the massive toe spring it can feel much less if you aren’t used to it.

Magic Speed 3…. Without a doubt. It’s the best investment you can make as a slower runner working on getting faster or feeling faster. It’s also a much more versatile shoe.

Personally, the light strike pro is my best mid material (right amount of stiffness, bounce, softness , and durability), while Asics is my best upper race fit comfort and mid geometry (my TS8 upper is not as comfortable) Both win with fit and finish,durability and longevity ( i have the MS 1 with more than 300 km and the thing will not die , the outsole is outlasting the upper). Waiting for the MS3 to land over here.

Totally agree on the durability of Adidas and Asics. The fit and finish on Asics shoes is next level too. I still prefer Nike and ZoomX above all still… but Adidas makes a VERY compelling case with the Adios 8 and Adios Pro 3.

For a 5k race (if only between these two shoes)... it would be the TS9. The MS3 is a better training shoe. Though I’d likely pick a Nike Vaporfly 3 over either for a 5k. Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad my content is useful.

for me, the takumi sen reminds me most of original metaspeed speed and original endorphin pro. The asics having more cushion but doesn’t feel like a tall shoe at all. There are similarities in the way i use them in my training.

I never did that vs because there really is no comparison. They are both totally different shoes. The MS3 is the better traditional tempo trainer for longer intervals on the road where the Streakfly is a good workout shoe for shorter speed work or easy running. Not alot of overlap between the two. Plus in 2024 both models will be updated and replaced. The MS4 vs the SF2… seem like that will be a better vs. stay tuned.

I have no idea about India… though it does seem Asics has had some odd stock issues with certain models being impossible to find… for sometime. Best bet would be to check resellers and 3rd parties. Those type of shops must have them in stock.

The 1km in this workout is not all out. It’s at my Marathon Pace. So it’s more controlled. All out… I’d expect the TS9 the be faster due to LSP foam.

@@SagasuRunning some findings from playing around with a really cheap non brand shoe. found a super lightweight shoe 6.17oz for size 9US, but with stiff EVA midsole. I cut off the heel some parts of the upper and removed the insole, lightened the shoe to 5.30oz. with this shoe i had the fastest 10K time trial. my calfs took a beating, but I think that the way I made the shoe without anything on the heel it made me run on my toes the whole time + the lightweight I think help a bit too..

What if the Magic speed was almost the same as Magic Speed 3 ,the only change being instead FF blast+ it will be FF turbo .Will it then be similar to Metaspeed sky+ or Edge +? Btw I have the Asics Magic Speed 3,wonderful shoe. I just have the Magic Speed 4 ,they have changed the shoe completely design wise.

A MS3 in FFTurbo is essentially the OG Metaspeed OG with more toe spring. You see why I’m not covering the MS4. Tried it on today actually…. What a disappointing mess.

Endorphin Speed 4…. 😂 Seriously though (avoid Asics), I can’t think of a plated shoe with a more flexible plate. Though, the Puma Deviate Nitro 3 is currently giving me Endorphin Speed 1 vibes…. Maybe something to look at…. Initial impressions video up this weekend.

The ES4 is far from perfect. It has issues. But it works and works well. You’ll be able to find a pair. They aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Not a chance. The TS10 is a much better shoe that is better designed, has a much better foam and is much more versatile now. That being said, it’s not a fair comparison. The TS10 is a full generation ahead of the MS3. The comparison will be between the TS10 and MS4, which should be out by this summer. However, I’m likely not going to cover the MS4 as the Metaspeeds are also much better and more versatile this year. We shall see.

Interesting question. It depends on how you are going to approach those 12 minutes. If it’s an all out sprint, burn yourself into the ground, max effort = Takumi Sen 9 If you would rather approach it looking for efficiency to make the difference = Magic Speed 3. Both will do well for the test though.

The Takumi sen 9 was way to narrow for me. Very rarely do I send a shoe back.. The Pro 3 is so much better for me.

Absolutely not. In fact, I can’t think of a worst shoe as a daily trainer than the Magic Speed 3. The magic speed is a classic tempo trainer which means it’s a fast running or workout shoe. Everything that makes it work well as a tempo trainer works against it as a daily trainer. The ultra stiff carbon fiber plate, the aggressive toe-spring and overall geometry just about make it the worst option possible for daily/easy running. If you like lower stack daily shoes and want to stick within Asics’s lineup… look at the Hyper Speed 3, which is essentially the Magic Speed 3, with my CF plate and a more neutral geometry (and an older form).

Again, no. The TS10 is a 5/10k race shoe or a very fast tempo trainer, similar to the MS3, but better. Basically you don’t want to do your daily running in a plated, aggressive shoe. If you are interested in Adidas for a daily use shoe look at the Supernova Rise (my current favorite) or the Adizero SL. Those are the types of shoes you want for daily running.

I have been running in the ts8 for the last year. It's faster and more responsive after about 100k. I was thinking about selling them until I started getting 5k pbs in them. So I keep them for flat out 5k... Agree it's not my favorite training shoe either..

i am very disappointed that the mesh upper on my takumi 9 sens split in both insteps after just 210km/ 4 months of use. this is a premium product retailing at £170! Adidas rejected my warranty claim giving no more information other than to refer to the t&c of the returns policy which is frankly rude and can in no way be viewed as acceptable customer service. My assumption is that the warehouse deemed that i was using the shoe for other than 'running' which is completely incorrect. i feel cheated by what i would have considered one of the premium sports brands

The mesh material Adidas has been using the last season on their uppers is problematic. I have an issue with rubbing and blistering but I have also seen many durability issues. It is a problem for sure.
