Just bought the Takumi Sen 9 for my birthday and I broke them in the next day. I love running in them and it made me enjoy speed workouts and tempo runs. The Lightstrike Pro provides excellent cushioning for faster paces. I also got these in a colorway that I like and with a 10% discount which made it sweeter.
I share your enthusiasm for the Takumi Sen as a tempo trainer. It beats the Streakfly, but I still take that for short intervals (up to 800m, VO2max effort or higher). For anything between that and threshold: Takumi Sen! What a shoe. And the biggest benefit of lightstrike pro in a trainer: the durability compared to all the peba based superfoam.
interesting, I have actually found the opposite: Takumi being much better for short intervals due to the snappiness and Streakfly too soft. Moreover, I feel like Rebel v3 is actually better than Streakfly but that just might be me.
After EDDBUD's reviews of the TS I picked up a pair of 8's a few months ago on a good markdown in price. I am a 6'6" forefoot striker. Now after about 25 miles of interval, tempo, track, and 5km race on them I've developed some achillies tendinitis. Been running for 35 years and I've never has issues before. I've taken some time away from them and will be trying to determine if my pushoff is odd or my achillies isn't relaxing in my gait cycle. But will be trying them again. They are fast and I do really like them.
I have the Takumi 8 as well as the Adios P3. Have to say Adidas position them perfectly. The Adios P3 is perfect for Marathon and above(completed Comrades in them), whilst the Takumi is the best shoe on the market for 21k,10k or 5k PBs.
When I found the TS 8, it became my 5K-10k racer. I PB’d in it. Just got my TS 9’s for $108 from Adidas and I’m sure they’ll be just as good! I no longer run in the Vaporfly 2s for those kind of races because of them!
I'm only really using the ts8 for 5k Pb attempts. Definitely fastest shoe for me over that distance. Agree with you about lightstrike pro... Enough firmness for this type of shoe. Also like rebel v3 for workouts.
Great shoe! I've used the Takumi Sen 8 for a couple of races (10K, 12K ...) and key speed workouts. Once you get them on - laces are a bit of a struggle - this must be one of the most efficient pair of running shoes ... On top of that, durable!
I am glad that you got TS9. I have TS8 and it is almost identical. I loved the shoe so much that I have 3 pairs. I bought them at deep discount prices around US$75. At these prices I don't care if the outsoles wear out somewhat quickly.
Love your review! I run in this shoes at any pace to be honest because I love them so much and as you said this foam lightstrike pro is nothing compared with any other foam.
I picked up a pair about three weeks ago for workouts too. I have a 10km on Sunday but I’m wearing my vapour fly’s. i may prefer rebel v3 for these workouts, I’ve worn a pair out
Totally agree. I used mine TS8 for speed and tempo. Now after 600kms, the outsole strips at the rear show some wear but the foam and grip are still rocking. Wide feet too, ok with the toe box but I have to play with lacing for a good heel lock down. I believe the TS 9 have solved this issue.
Love the takumi sen. Btw dude. I just got the hoka rocket x2. Its the first shoe from hoka that actually performs really well. You would love it. Its similar to the OG novablast. Big decoupled groove. Peba thats bouncier than zoomx, a bit firmer but still compresses really nicely. The plate is spoon shaped and really rolls you through, kinda firm plate but it really bends and pops even with my low weight.

I bought the 8s on sale as my first "racing"/ "super" shoe. I'm a newer runner but already putting decent 50K weeks in and wanted to try out a speedier shoe than my daily trainer (ride 15s) and decided on the Takumis after hearing rave reviews, and knowing that I have no intentions of racing a road marathon for at least a few years. Out of the box I immediately PB'd my 5k by a minute and 20 seconds on my first run. Again, I don't have much experience with PEBAX foams and plated shoes, but I was blown away at how much springier and propulsive I felt in the Takumis. I have a slightly wider foot as well and it's a snug fit, but so far I haven't had any pains or blisters wearing them. Overall they're a very fun shoe and it will take discipline not to wear them out too much. I plan on wearing them for training sessions, 5k parkruns, the occasional 10k race, and hopefully even a half marathon since I don't think I can justify the money for a second dedicated racing shoe at this point.
I've only taken the Takumi Sen 9s out for easy runs to see how my legs reacted. I loved them straight away, they are so light. Depending on the workout, I'll be using either the Adidas Pro 2s or the Takumi Sen 9s. I need to figure out what workout I'm doing today and I'll be taking them out for the first time at speed.
As i mentioned on a previous video the Sen 8 performed really well at rose Inn. A fantastic shoe! Andy you doing another Rose Inn race? Sen 9 race test?
Love my takumi sen 8 for 5k workout paces. Wish it was a little more stable. I find myself slowing down on sharp turns. When i want a little more stability, I run in the OG endorphin pro’s. The Saucony’s aren’t as fast of a shoe but they still do well.
Own TS9 and AP3. Use TS9 for track work. AP3 for long stuff. I regret not using the TS9 on my 5k race this year. I feel it would have outperformed the VF2
Don’t know how but the shoe on my left foot feels way more snug than on right. Ankle feels like it moves inwards while walking. Sensation reduces while running.
Picked these up yesterday for $140 AUD (around 70GBP) yet to try them out. Currently marathon training and was planning on these to be my threshold and goal pace run shoes but I have paid of Vaporfly 2s with around 200km on them, not sure if to save the Takumis for the odd session and some 5/10km PB attempts and use the vaporfly for my session shoe instead as a lot of goal pace stuff is during my long runs. I think may as well save fresh foam and use down the vaporfly. I plan to use adios pro 3 for the marathon. Lets see how first run in the takumis feel and go from there
I tried the Sen 8 and 9 side by side, for me with a slightly wider and high volume foot the 8 was way too tight, 9 fits really well, so thats what I got, love it so far.
@@gudboyngdisyerto I only had the 8 briefly on foot as it didn't fit well but could not tell a difference, I understood from other reviews the 9 is just an upper update, so should be the same midsole.

I have used this shoe for up to mile repeat and man it is so good. But I question sometime I pronate more in this shoe. But that lightstrike pro composition in this one is so good. At start I feel it was firm but after 50km it got better for me. Now at 100km it is perfect. I have yet test it in a race. I am so tempted to try the 10km but not sure if it is a 10km for me.
I say all the time I can’t believe Nike presented the Streakfly as a racer lol. It is a great workout shoe that I love. But RACER? With all these other options? But then again, I’m probably contradicting myself because I just said I don’t always want to wear carbon plated shoes.
i am very disappointed that the mesh upper on my takumi 9 sens split in both insteps after just 210km/ 4 months of use. this is a premium product retailing at £170! Adidas rejected my warranty claim giving no more information other than to refer to the t&c of the returns policy which is frankly rude and can in no way be viewed as acceptable customer service. My assumption is that the warehouse deemed that i was using the shoe for other than 'running' which is completely incorrect. i feel cheated by what i would have considered one of the premium sports brands
I have actually worn my Adios 8 more than Sen 9 more so far largely as feel the Adios handles mixed paces and terrains better and been doing bit more of that.,To me the Sen 9 is an out and out short distance racer although not sure if would pick it over a Vaporfly for say a 5K or 10K. That said it did well in the session I did do although swopped halfway for the Adios 8 and although bit different ride as did well too. So will you race in the Sen 9 ?
For tempo runs- which would you suggest? I’m considering Adios or Takumi. And while Takumi appears “faster” I’m concerned about having carbon all the time

Apart from my daily trainers, would you recommend these for 10k - 15k - HM races? I've read that these are best for 5 and 10ks, but I just want an extra pair for specific workouts and races. Thanks in advance!
I haven’t raced in mine yet, but on my workout days, including warm up and cool down I’m covering anywhere from 8/11 miles which is roughly 14/16k ish?!?! My conversions are terrible!
ready to pickup a pair i found verison 8, with my speed 2 I could use as a all round show easy-to-workout. How are these for easy-to-moderate or steady.
I'd give you my feedback but adidas seem to of changed the sizing from what I'm used to with them so need either a half size under or actually normal trainer correct sizing 🤣

I have one problem with this shoe..the mid foot is very narrow..and that’s the cause od the wobbly landing particularly in my right foot..but other than that, it is a FANTASTIC shoe…love to hear your thoughts on Adios 8 compare to this
@@tadejdanev5030 have only 50km so far, but they doing great, have the prime x as well, and they are retired now by 1000km, so I guess the Takumi will hold on as well
Wow, you seem genuinely blown away by the Sen. Agree on this vs the Streakfly btw. Streakfly was just a bit too soft, flexible, and too much ground contact. Something about that shoe aggravated my plantar fascia as well.
Yeah massively mate, people banged the drum on them for so long and when I saw them in my size I was so happy! Best investment alongside the hyperion max 👍
I don't have a wide feet, but what worries me is my low arch, exactly where adidas cut a big chunk in the medial side 🤦🏾♂️ I have never tried the takumi sen 8/9, not even in a store because for some reason adidas doesn't sell this shoe in my country. Some sellers offer them online with inflated price. too risky for me. If I finally have a chance to try them on my feet someday, I pray that my feet and biomechanics can work with them 😑
@@TheFODRunner i just run 10k with it but feel interesting with it, not tired run easy but more quick than i ran 10k before . Very comfortable for me . But just one problem ankle make me worry. I watch many runner elite with this shoe, both ankle of them like that. The man england 2:08 42k run with this shoe but his ankle like that. Make me worry but i think everyyhing will be ok. This shoe a bit dear for me ^^ im not earn more mỏney
