In this episode, we welcome Pastor Joby Martin back to the show. In this interview, we discuss whether or not Christians should eat meat, if believers can actually choose to “fall away”, how we can know that Deism is wrong, whether we can tell if God is blessing a church based on their size and financial success, confusion over TULIP, when it is appropriate to lie, if God can change His mind, and much more. Let’s get into it…

Great point on limited atonement that changed my mind: Jesus died on the cross to pay for sins. If He paid for the sins of the unsaved, why are they again paying for the sins? God is just, which is why Jesus had to die, so it seems He would not punish the same sins twice, once through Jesus and again through eternal damnation to hell.

We don't pay for our sins when we're saved. Jesus already paid for our sins.

Saying “who are we to question God’s right to do something” is not the same as saying that God does the thing in question. If God had never given any of us a path to be reconciled He would have been completely justified, but His love would not have been satisfied. The fact is we are all vessels that prepared ourselves for destruction and He has the right to destroy us all. In His love he provided all with the opportunity to accept His gift of salvation, the work He did in that was on the cross. It’s not another work God does picking and choosing who gets to accept the offer, that wouldn’t satisfy His love. You must be be washed by the blood through faith before the Holy Spirit can indwell you or else the presence of God would destroy you because you still have sin on you.

Another thought, the perfect example of mairrage in the bible is the portrayed relationship between Jesus and the Disciples. Is that accurate?

What about the great falling away and the warnings about that? I mean, this may rock the boat or something but I don't believe in a pre-tribulation rapture (Matthew 24:29-31). People say it's not a big deal and doesn't really matter if you love Jesus., let's not make a mountain out of a mole hill, we can just agree to disagree on that, etc. Ok, but what happens when you love Jesus but you believe you're going to get whisked away and not have to endure it and then you aren't? Seems like many who believed they would be are going to fall away when they're not and realize what they thought was true was a lie and reject the faith and lose their salvation.

22:50 Romans 9 is definitely a topic. I would say that yes God can do what ever whenever he wants, he is almighty. It mentions Pharaoh from Exodus that God made him and let him grow so he could then show his power, and Pharaoh was terrible and that's obviously the old testament. But what about also in Romans 9 v30 Paul is making a point that all need to pursue righteousness by faith. He doesn't say sit and hope and wait. He is saying that God wants everyone to pursue righteousness. Also Romans 1:17 ". . Who is righteousness by faith will live" What I'm struggling with is I don't see how God would want us ALL to come to him for SOME to have the opportunity for heaven?

I hear ya. But I think your last question is framed wrong. The real issue is why would a holy and just God choose to save ANY sinners?
@TankyFrank
@TankyFrank Месяц назад
@@ReubenScott11 thank you for replying. So then why would he even save us? I would say because he loves us. The kind of love that humans can not truly understand. But then that goes back to something like. So then IF some people are "screwed from the start" our God doesn't love every human??
@ReubenScott11
@ReubenScott11 Месяц назад
@@TankyFrank for sure! I agree about love, God demonstrates that on the cross (Romans 5:8). But if grace is truly grace it can't be demanded, expected, or obligated. I think there is an underlying assumption we all have that if God is fair he'll save everyone. But ALL people actually deserve his wrath, so any exception to that is a miraculous demonstration of his grace. As for those not chosen, we must return to Romans 9 and allow God to speak on that. Also, we all have a sinful nature and we act according to our will, so God is still just if he leaves some in their sins.
@TankyFrank
@TankyFrank Месяц назад
@@ReubenScott11 yes I agree we are all sinners and will continue to stumble. But I'm not understanding the grace as we humans trying to make something on our sinner side. I believe the grace is that since Jesus died for our sins that he gives us the opportunity to be with him in heaven. The only way to the father is through him ( John 14 6 I believe) I scratch my head and wonder then, would Jesus have died for just some people already "picked" to join him? My apologies if that's confusing. Thinking and typing don't always mix well lol
@ReubenScott11
@ReubenScott11 Месяц назад
@@TankyFrank No worries bro! I'm not sure I completely understand, but in response to the what you were saying about God giving an opportunity. I could be wrong, but I don't remember anything in Scripture talking about salvation as just an option to accept or not without God working to bring it about. Rather it's usually in the language of God's work which actually accomplished the purchasing of sinners. (Eph. 1:7, 2:8, Gal. 3:13, 1 Cor. 6:19-20, etc.). I'm not saying we don't have any responsibility or that we don't respond to the Gospel call in faith. But even our repentance and faith is a gift (2 Tim 2:25, Eph 2:8-9, Heb 12:2, Phil 1:29). That may be a bit off topic, but hope it helps.

I'm 63 years old and been a Christian since age 12. Everytime they get to the Calvinist discussion I am totally confused. Is Joby believe the Calvinist view? This seems to be the only thing he confusses me on. Can someone point me in a direction on this?
@ReubenScott11
@ReubenScott11 Месяц назад
I totally understand, I've had many times of confusion on this issue. For me, I'd start with John 6 and just follow Jesus showing the nature of "choosing" and it's based on God's own initiative.

What about marriage? Can someone ask the question. Since the advent of no fault divorce, same sex marriage and the divorce laws being bias against family. Is legal marriage still biblical? I want to here Pastor Joby's take on this. My opinion is just like anyone its an opinion. But here it is: I say no. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// The scriptures that are commonly used to support legal marriage are: Romans 13:1-2: "Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment." Matthew 22:15-22: "Then the Pharisees went and plotted how to entangle him in his words. And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, 'Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone's opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances. Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?' But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, 'Why put me to the test, you hypocrites? Show me the coin for the tax.' And they brought him a denarius. And Jesus said to them, 'Whose likeness and inscription is this?' They said, 'Caesar's.' Then he said to them, 'Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.' When they heard it, they marveled. And they left him and went away." /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// What God the Father and what Jesus said about marriage: Note, both passages are mentioning Genesis 2: 24 Matthew 19:3-9 (NIV): 3 Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?" 4 "Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,' 5 and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate." 7 "Why then," they asked, "did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?" 8 Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. 9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery." Ephesians 5:25-33 (NIV): 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church- 30 for we are members of his body. 31 "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." 32 This is a profound mystery-but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// My thoughts are: -God decides marriage -We don't need a license to marry anyone, its was the first right that God gave us -The state and other social forces have desecrated legal marriage, if you look a how society is marriage now transfers all the authority in the family to the wife which is wrong. Responsibility without authority is slavery for Husbands. -It is our right as men of God to disobey when institutions or Governments cause us to disobey what God intended for the family. Examples of disobedience to government exist, such as: //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Acts 5:29 (New Testament): "Peter and the other apostles replied: 'We must obey God rather than human beings!'" In this passage, the apostles were told by the authorities not to preach in the name of Jesus. They chose to obey God rather than men. Daniel 3:16-18 (Old Testament): "Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, 'King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.'" Here, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to worship the idol set up by King Nebuchadnezzar, even though it meant facing severe consequences. Acts 4:18-20 (New Testament): "Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John replied, 'Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.'" Again, Peter and John were told by the authorities not to speak in the name of Jesus, but they chose to continue preaching 1 Kings 18:3-4: "And Ahab had called Obadiah, who was in charge of his house. (Now Obadiah feared the Lord greatly. For so it was, while Jezebel massacred the prophets of the Lord, that Obadiah had taken one hundred prophets and hidden them, fifty to a cave, and had fed them with bread and water.)" ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Next point is what do we do as God fearing people with regards to marriage? Seriously this is a real problem. Men and women cheat, both perform the infamous bait and switch on each other. For example the wife giving sex and after 7 years never wants it. Or where is the man I married, where he just concedes to her every wish to "keep the peace"( the switch is from courageous man to spineless). The laws are not changing anytime soon to over turn no fault. I personally think men need to commit outside of the legal institution and do it with God and the church. The common complaint is that they fear men will leave marriage, well many or not doing them and many divorced men won't take the risk. By the way this is a fulfillment of prophecy. """"Isaiah 4:1:"In that day seven women will take hold of one man and say, 'We will eat our own food and provide our own clothes; only let us be called by your name. Take away our disgrace!'"""" Also, the prophecy is coming to pass also """"Revelation 2:20-23:"Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.""""" I think I laid it out, its a mess but it is there. Guidance please.
