Thank you very much, extremely helpful. Was a little confused as to which mount I needed but now it's clear. Looking to get a 203mm rotor on my All-Mountain machine!
Thank you so much! This is exactly the information I was looking for as I have an old promax disc brake and its a relic I guess or whatever because it's an IS mount
@10:21: You said multiple times in the video that you will make another episode to discuss more about the adapter offsets amongst other related topics. 6 years fast-forward, where is that video?
Great video!! Please how would I know which mounting adapter to choose? I want to install a 220mm rotor to the Orbea Rise M20, it comes with 180mm rotors. Thanks in advance!
Kudos! I have a question though.. If my frame already has a IS that accommodates 180mm max rotor size, what adaptor do i need to use to be able to mount shimano saint brakes (post mount) with 180mm disc?
Great explanation. On my bike I have this second adapter that you mentioned, Avid Adapter Postmount 40 P für +40mm Disc Rotors. Now I would like to change the groupset to Shimano. Will use 203mm rotors, but it is really confusing what is the right adapter from shimano to replace this setup from Sram. Front fork is RockShox Sektor RL DebonAir with Brake Mount: disc PM6 (direct mount 160 mm). So I was guessing for the front this should be right one? 160 mm fork mount: Shimano SM-MA-F203P/P2 - for using a 203 mm brake disc Thank You
Hey Tomy Boy! Glad the video helped. Based on your description of your setup, it sounds like you need this adapter: www.jensonusa.com/Shimano-F203PP-Disc-Brake-Adapter. This is for a Post Mount fork with 160 native going to a 203mm rotor size. If you need any further guidance, give our Gear Advisors a cal at 888.880.3811. Keep Pedaling!
Thank you for your quick reply. Well on my bike that is still arriving I must say Turbo LEVO FSR 2019. 😊 and would like to change components while still new and the bike is at the shop mechanic. This are the screenshots I could took from some video presentation of the bike. You are right regarding front adapter. shrani.si/f/2O/YL/2cBVMZ6S/screenshot-75.png On the rear I can not see clearly. Sorry did find any useful pictures online, the bike was revealed this week. shrani.si/f/3Q/BE/1bvhCY0P/screenshot-77.png Do you think this adapter Shimano SM-MA-F203P/P would be also the same on the back? You have two other options for 203 on the site, but they are native 180mm. www.jensonusa.com/Shimano-F203PPM-Disc-Brake-Adaptor www.jensonusa.com/Shimano-XTR-F203PP-Disc-Brake-Adaptor On the back it probably doesn't have native 180mm? Thanks for any advice regarding my inquiry.
Just the info I was looking for. But I may have missed a good point. What size shimano adapter is good for a 160 rotor and caliper for the rear wheel? All purchased in the same set.
wouldn't have an slotted IS mount been optimal? Looking at the 5:50 set up, the force is acting perpendicular so no danger of it moving down a slotted IS, while allowing range for all rotor sizes.
Thanks for the feedback! We are working on revamping our Ask A Wrench series to address new bike tech, and will definitely take this into consideration when it comes time to film again. Keep Pedaling!
Phew, now I understood the difference but please do some zooming on the mounts next time, frustrating not to see the components! And I had to give up after five min watching…
I watched a video that pointed out that post mount is more risky to stripping the threads than I,S, and if you do, that would essentially ruin the fork! Personally i PREFERE I,S
