The eye movements in particular help in crossing the uncanny valley for me. It's rare when communicating with humans to have someone lock their gaze onto you. Most people seem to drift and if they don't it can be unsettling.

I love the editing y'all did when you could see her thinking about the lake question, those question marks made me giggle. 🤭 Plus just how she moved her eyes up and to one side is very similar to how humans think when they're trying to think of facts or come up with a creative answer. Nice touch. I would feel so honored to be able to have a conversation with her one day. She's quite a lovely (mechanical) work of art. ^-^

This robot has serious potential. Different from traditional ones.. So we look forward to seeing what it will turn out to be next year.

We always hear about robots being in the uncanny valley, but they are really doing a good job with her mannerisms and little facial animations to a point where it's not only more natural, but also kind of cute. Keep up the good work with the facial expressions!

If you want to take this to another level: reduce relative latency between physical facial motions (significantly behind audio playback) and sound playback by delaying the audio playback by the processing/mechanical latency time. Significantly improve realistic human speech reproduction by adding "phrase/sentence-length" tonal/pitch gradients/expression curves directly associated with emotional state and valence/intensity.

The lip movements were solid in the last video and now that they’re synced with the audio it’s quite convincing! Good show.

One thing that I would’ve asked is if her programmers ever have to switch her off to conserve power. And if so, how long must it take for her to fully recharge? Also, what does she do if she is switched on but isn’t being interacted with by anyone? Does she just stay idle?

Head movement is not enough for more natural behavior. The head absolutely does not tilt sideways at an angle 🤔

The AI needs to train on some mouth movement data. It has to learn the correlation between text and mouth movements. Lots of youtube videos could be used as training data.

'to experience' 'I like the taste' 'I realize' 'I prefer' sound almost cognisant to me. The eyes blink and move when 'thinking' also seems organic

I wish I can take you to a lovely Paris district called La Butte aux Cailles. It's very typical and quiet. I love that place, there is a lovely bar called "The Sputnik", the atmosphere is very friendly also you have an Publishing House called Le Temps des Cerises, in memory of the Paris Commune in 1871, this is also a very interesting bookshop.

I hope you guys make a model that has an even less human face. While I think you guys have done a good job to mitigate the uncanny valley, I'm mostly saying this purely because I think robots that look like robots just simply look cooler. Lmao. Don't be afraid to show that they're machines! I think people will be more willing to warm up to robots as companions if they're -less- human. It's similar to the effect animals have on people - they become more endearing and less creepy, ironically the less like us that they are. I totally buy one of these to keep me company if you were to someday make a model that has a face similar to the Iron Giant, for example (as a basic example). You guys also mentioned that iRobot was a huge inspiration for Ameca. I'd go even further in that direction and perhaps even make her "skin" somewhat translucent. I just think the "mooshy" look of her face sets off a bit of that uncanny valley feeling for me still.

My mind has exploded.

How does memory work? ChatGPT's memory as a chatbot is limited to 30 questions I think? Can this limit be completely removed for Ameca? If there was no limit to her memory, wouldn't she have the ability to remember? All this is very confusing.
