When you grow 80 varieties of mangos, it's hard to pick favorites!
It was very difficult, but Chris came up with her list of favorite varieties for 2017. It's hard to believe that she got her list down to only 20!
Watch the video to see what they are!

I'd say: Edward, Lemon Zest, Sweet Tart (when they're "on"), Maha Chanook and Pickering. Too much variability in the Mallika (cut down our tree for that reason). Bailey's Marvel has a hint of an aspartame-ish flavor which I find offputting (Beverly sometimes has a hint of this too). Great collection she has.

I have a Beverly and a Nam Doc Mai. I have a small yard so went with smaller trees that were Anthrois resistant. Nam Doc Mai is one of the best mangoes I have ever eaten. It is very sweet with just the right amount of fiber.

Hello Chris! I`m planning to plant some mangos that harvest fruit at different months, so I get fruit the longest. Those mangos whose late fruits are much better than early ones (Keitt, etc), would you advise to cut their first flowers off and let them produce only those later fruits?

Hi Chris, im in Australia in a similar climate to you. I have a mango tree that has a single trunk that bolted high and started to branch way up, should I cut it way back which would mean no leaves.

Chris, I want to plant a tree in a smaller yard. I have been thinking either Carrie or maha chanook tree. What is the difference in maintenance of these two trees? Also what would you say the taste difference is for these two.? Thank you
@SoulSeeker770
@SoulSeeker770 2 года назад
This is what I learn from various videos.. Carrie: very soft texture and sweet, fruity. Some say has a tartness, likely picked early. disease resistant. Maha Chanook has a range of flavors depending when it is picked and the part of the mango. I'd go with this for the varied taste.

The Mallika mangoes I purchased from you in late June, I think were the best mangoes I sampled this year. i think i will get a Lemon meringue ( PPK ) next spring, to replace my Valencia Pride, ( Lost it in Irma ) since its a great early variety that is supposedly consistent, both productive wise, and in flavor. do you agree?
@TrulyTropical

yes... We have had a few shy years with PPK, but I think the weather after fruit set was exceptionally dry.

I don't know why people are so averse to fiber. Fiber gives the mangos texture. I'd be more concern with flavor and production.
@ksitigarbha9787
@ksitigarbha9787 5 лет назад
They get stuck in your teeth and sometimes it's hard to bite off the flesh, when the fibres holding it. Or the fibre continues to hold flesh and you have to scrape it off with a spoon. It's minorly stressful and sometimes time consuming. Bit distracting if you don't have toothpick.

I agree. One of the most fragrant and flavorful mangos is the East Indian. The essence is so intoxicating, even those leaves are fragrant. The flavorful is delightful, juicy and complex. You know when East Indian mangos are in the house when you open the door!
