Ask data for Viewers & new guided search interface. New in Tableau 2021.2

Ask data is now available to all users meaning viewers can benefit from curated insights alongside the flexibility to ask their own questions either using the new Lens system, using it inside of a dashboard and lastly using it on a published data source you could before.

Love the videos Tim. For viewers to have access to Ask data, do we need a special licence, pay extra?

As of 2021.2 its included in your license but authors need to put up some ask data data sets and then optimise them but if your organisation was using ask data already viewers should see the feature as of 2021.2

You live and you learn. This was an unintentional mistake on export. Most of my current videos don't have this issue. A side effect of doing this in my free time and not having any support making editing, recording or sharing these. :D

Hi Tim, not sure who to ask but I see that you are covering ASKDATA 2021.2 in RU-vid, so hoping you might help me (and our team). We are upgrading from 2021.1 to 2021.2. So "lens" is new feature that we see now for the first time. Now, the problem we are having, all those URLs that we created using ASK DATA- Share link in 2021.1 are not working in 2021.2! : ( I think this new feature "lens" broke those links? Is there any workaround to get those URLs back working? Thanks in advance! Will be looking forward to your reply! Fingers crossed! :)

I don't believe so. I would open up a support ticket though and double check there's not something that can be done. One thought i had is if you create a single lens for the data source, does tableau redirect to the lens when you hit your links? You can now embed ask data in dashboard so it might make more long term viability to do that instead.

Thanks for your quick response and yes we created ticket and waiting for them to respond. Also I tried to create just one lens but the URL still doesn't work. Our users (20+) love ASK Data and they do their slice and dice and save those visuals as URL links (100+) in their word docs and weekly/monthly basis, use them to get updated data and use them in their presentations or as base report and enhance... Most of them are executive level folks and asking them recreate those links would be too much time taking! Also the only way they can recreate is, Admins have to take back up 2021.1 and restore to any sandbox and so the users can see how each URL actually defined and then they have to start from the scratch and recreate in 2021.2? So hoping Tableau might have some solution to this! And yes, I saw that embed option other than easy access on dashboard it self, nothing changed. To save their explored visuals for future access is still same: Copy URL or create dashboard out of it! Amazing tool and amazing updated features in ASK Data but only if they can retain some work around options, so that old URL links can still work would be huge help! : (
