It depends as a hispanic male we get a lot of love from females in the family, like when I gained weight "Wow you're looking like a man now!" When I lost the weight "Oh you're looking good!" (Usually a thinner shape I prefer to keep) but on the other hand my sister starts to gain a tiny bit of weight "Maybe you should take it easy on those snacks/soda" or my mom will be like "oh mija I got you a few salads that you can have for lunch" we are all adults lol
Grew up in Spanish speaking US household. My first time visiting Mexico, I was so proud that I spoke the language. I tried to chat with a street vendor in Spanish… he just says “uehh noo speake Engglee” 😭😭😅
Jaja ¡nooooo! ¿Tienes ojos azules? One of my friends does, and although he's born and raised in Puerto Rico, street vendors refuse to speak in Spanish with him because of the color of his eyes they assume he is "gringo". 😂
Dad clearly doesn't speak Spanish to know 😂 my gringo friend who speaks Spanish can even tell when someone isn't a fluent Spanish speaker by their accent.

This is EXACTLY why I never speak Spanish with my family. They're constantly mocking my accent & mistakes. It's funny at first but they constantly do it and it gets to be too much. I just answer them in English

I speak Spanish as a second language and English as a first. I spent years trying to get my accent right. I said good enough when the "compliments" I got were that I sound like a Brazilian speaking Spanish.

We all have accents. Regardless of where you’re from you have an accent. I speak four languages and I have an accent in each one of them. It’s unavoidable, each language changes the way we speak, so you end up developing an accent in the other languages as well. I don’t sound particularly from anywhere and I honestly love that. 😊
Pretty obvious that in this context it means not speaking how MOST people naturally would sound. In this case, speaking spanish like an average "gringo" would speak it. Don't complicate it.
I was born and raised in huntsville Alabama (I don't live there now, creeps) but huntsville is a very melting pot of people (most of the city was founded from Germans and Irish and mexican folk) so there's not much of a traditional southern accent from there. So if I'm anywhere in the south they think I'm from the north and anywhere other than they south they think I'm from somewhere near the south

Yeah, she has all the theory and most of the exacution nailed down but you can almost notice that the way she constructs the sounds with her mouth and throat are gringo. I don't know if the story is true, but I remember a news article about a woman from the US, who only spoke english, and after either a seizure or a head injury, she suddenly had a french accent, and the supposed explanation was that the way her throat constructed words changed after the incident. So that's what I'm guessing happened here; she learned to do the individual sound on english bases and is applying those sounds so spanish, even if her execution is almost right, those basics still linger and sound odd applied to spanish
Yeah. First language is australian english, so I have an accent in spanish too, but my mexican mum ain't as mean about it. Guess it's cos I was fluent in spanish by like 3 tho, since I lived 6 months in Australia, 6 months in Mexico for like 7 years.

Shes mexican. My mother in law talks like this to her family. I always thought she was pissed about something. But 16 years later. I finally understand. Shes just having a casual conversation.
@@IdealConscience mexican here...i agree as well..growing up my mother would talk to us like this and be angry for no reason, asking questions for answers wasnt even an option as it resulted in being told im stupid..but that was 10 years ago, we get along much better now and she talks to me respectfully as well. Dont know why they talk rude to their children when theyre young though, then they wonder why we dont depend on them

I’m puertorican and recently moved to 🇺🇸 and have a baby daughter and my biggest goal is to teach her Spanish and to keep our traditions, I also have a lot of family here and my oldest cousins know Spanish but my little cuss don’t know ANY Spanish and they literally fight with their parent for not teaching them so yeah
I can relate to this! Both my parents are Hispanic but they never taught me or my brother Spanish. It was due to the doctors saying that they should speak one language around us when we were younger. Embarrassing enough, I’m struggling to speak and understand/comprehend Spanish even though I’m taking classes for it. I am trying though 🥲

I am from Argentina, your accent its lovely. btw having an accent is not a bad thing, every spanish speaking country has their own distinct accent and that's a part of what makes them unique.
Well, it depends. The thing is, many of us change the accent when around people with a different accent for a while. I am Colombian, but I am in Spain more often, so my cousins always laugh about my Spanish accent when I come over. In addition, you're much more likely to get targeted by criminals if you have a different or weird accent.

My mom is Mexican and very soft-spoken, but the majority of the other moms including my grandma, always talk to their kids like we're idiots and they know it all, honestly I hate that. I loved the gentle way your dad talked to you.

You can but it takes a fuckton of work, years of practice, and if you never come to latin america, you need to consume a ton of Spanish media and practice often with native speakers.
My father lived in Argentina for two years, and he has a completely different voice when he speaks Spanish. We live in the Houston area, so he’s mostly gotten rid of the Argentinian accent, and when he speaks, if you didn’t see him saying it, you definitely wouldn’t assume the voice was coming from a blonde hair blue eyed man

my family repeating things i say in spanish to mock my bad accent is the reason i dont even try to speak to them in spanish anymore it's not worth getting roasted constantly LOL
I mean, is normal, dont take it personally . We do that to each other all the time, for example, my family is from Colombia but i was raised in Argentina and when i speak to the side of my family that stayed in Colombia they do the same to my argentinian accent and when they come here, i do the same to their accents from Cali (a city in Colombia)
@@pampitam it may feel normal to you, but if someone mocked me, I'd be sad about it and if it was my family it'd hur even more and yeah, I would not do what they mocked me for any more.
