@adamcarman5330
@adamcarman5330 Месяц назад
@@ditoo2002yeah it’s quite a fascinating concept, and you’re correct! (This is long, sorry, but hopefully you find it interesting since much of this content is educational anyway!) But it’s not quite as simple as “there’s a 5th head”. There’s a concept called anatomic variation, where individuals develop slightly different based on genetics, environment, and muscular demands based on regional and cultural expression (like a snow fox vs an orange fox, kinda). In much of the literature about these variated muscle heads, there’s an established normal variant, with an understanding that other expressions exist and may alter treatments or even make someone more susceptible to certain conditions. Another great example is the piriformis muscle, which has 6 known variants in how it looks! Studies show that somewhere between 30-40ish% percent of people have a 5th head, usually called the “vastus tensor”, with normal presentation being the 4 major heads in the rest of people. The bicep has about a 10% chance to have 3 heads, and mostly it’s in females strangely enough.

@@adamcarman5330 thank you for the knowledge, that's actually right up my ally. I study cybersecurity, but I for some reason are fascinated with biology, more specifically genetics and how it works. extension of a muscle is not a thing in anatomy/physiology. muscles contract, relax, or stretch. extension and flexion refers to bending joints. what he means by "leg extension" is actually knee extension because the knee joint is opening. I'm sure the machine probably says "leg extension" on the info plaque so in that sense it's technically correct, but it's still anatomically incorrect.
