Asmik Grigorian makes her debut singing the title role in Puccini's Turandot at the Wiener Staatsoper in 2023, alongside Jonas Kaufmann as Calaf. Footage courtesy of ORF.
I'm an American who visited Vienna in December, and I too was a lucky man! She's the most complete Turandot I've ever heard - and my first Turandot was Gwyneth Jones!
She is the best. Her vocal quality had not been seen since the post-war period. Her vocal beauty and excellent technique. The psychological and technical approach to each of her roles borders on perfection.
Creo que es la mejor soprano que he oido en este rol por estos años, una técnica impecable y respetuosa de la partitura, hoy todas gritan la turandot pero esta soprano es arte puro.
Great rendition and those little dolls who are stacking bones 🦴 on her arms are creepy AF. If you think about it, Turandot is a creepy opera, which is what we love about it!
A phenomenal, outstanding Turandot with phenomenal phrasing, beautiful timbre and the needed steal in the voice. Bravissima for this inspiring interpretation!
@@little-963 She sang this role superb and what do I wish for more? Dramatic voices should be allowed to sing lyrical repertoire as well (if they like and can sing it) and so do I think that lyrical voices can sing dramatic parts if they can do it! And this interpretation serves 100% the music and character!
@@little-963 chill, my dear. There’s enough hatred in our world, there’s no reason to be so upset :) I enjoy very much to read how passionate you are about how the sound should be produced and you’re ready to use disrespectful language. There’s no reason to attack someone for expressing admiration, but of course do what you want, sing it better, come join us onstage, I’d be curious to hear you sing! Wishing you peace and light in your soul 🤍
She doesn't possess the requisite heft of a dramatic. It's a beautiful voice, but I do hope she'll stay in her lane vocally and not blow out her beautiful instrument.
As Senta in Bayreuth her singing and acting were great. Here she does not sing very clearly and it seems like she does not even understand what the role of Turandot is about. And who made this stupid production anyway????
Turandot is a mess. Apparently, neither the conductor nor Asmik is familiar with the form of the aria. You could fall asleep. The voice is wobbly - a strange vibrato, which in a couple of years with similar parts will turn into an ambulance signal. This aria is for a dramatic soprano, not a lyrical
@@justasceponis3931 The master class was given to you by the greatest singers of the past, from the surviving recordings of the 40s up to the 2000s. Listen to performances of 20-30, especially in the heyday of opera in the mid-20th century, and go back to Asmik. The answer will be obvious. And also: if the video is publicly available, then anyone can express not only unfounded praise, but also criticism.
The stress on the vocal chords cannot be ignored, but of course if you think you have to sing everything, it's not good for your voice, especially if you're not a dramatic soprano. Unfortunately, Grigorian is being pushed so hard by the feature pages that she probably doesn't even realize that she is following the same path as Kaufmann. Far too many roles in a short space of time, ever more dramatic and ever more exhausting. We can hear the result here and it will probably go downhill quickly. And the conductor? No words for such an uninspired "interpretation".
@@karilamminpaa8987 you must have already noticed her diction. that is a mess. meanwhile, her top notes don’t ring at all. there is no substance in her top range. and about her middle range, just another typical lyrical soprano ( only with a bigger forced/extra vibrato). the whole aria should sound exciting, but she cannot put strength, power and dignity to each note. frankly, I think this is really mediocre. she should be casted as Liu.
@@little-963that's what they ALWAYS do... Esp last 50 years. Taking someone with a popular look or following and putting them in heavier roles. Oropesa as Violetta, small voice, Cheryl Studer, clearly a full lyric, heavy Straussian & other big roles, ruined it for her.
@@smurf902 well i had this discussion before here, its because the vocal teachers cant guide the bigger voices ,there are many undeveloped dramatic sopranos that have been told that they are mezzos and that's why we dont have real dramatic sopranos
