During World War II there was the The Great Stocking Shortage. Women were rationing their Nylons and sending most if not all of their stockings to the war efforts. Nylon would be used in converting into powder bags which were used to propel missile projectiles in US Navy Guns. So women who went without their Nylons to support the troops used leg makeup or other means (such as tea staining) to give the look of stockings on the legs. =)

@@PeaceandSaraity The silk from their stalkings went for parachutes. Strangely, a certain amount of cosmetics were considered to be NECESSARY to boost morale.

I love these Avon videos. My great grandmother sold Avon until she was 91. She died in 2004. Her mother sold with Avon’s predecessor the California Perfume Company. She died in the early 1900s. It is so wonderful seeing the products my MaMa would have sold. My best memories are rifling thru her Avon products as a child and teenager in the 80s and 90s. She gave me my first red lipstick when I was in 10th grade. Thank you!

I’m sure they were all wonderful women. I share similar fond memories as well of both my mother and grandmother. Going through all there samples and magazines was such a delight for me! Awww! As far as I know, Avon didnt become an MLM until the 2000s, so that wouldnt have been unrealistic in the 1940s! 😊

The avon roleplays are my absolute favorite 🥰 Would love to see some even earlier years, like 1910's or 1920's (although I'm sure those products are extremely difficult to acquire)

While Avon has been around since the 1800's they didn't start cosmetics under that name until the 30's. The products before 1929 would all be perfume and soap. Still doable for sure but those products would be very high value or even in a museum. Edit: most of their way products and even the sales rep briefcases are in a museum. You can see them online via the Avon website itself. They are very proud of their history. The early stuff is under the California Perfume Company name which would make for a very interesting roleplay!

My maw was born in the 30s. I swear I have used that jasmine soap at some point. She had avon stuff all over the house. Its still in the house. XD My favorite are the old perfumes.
