Is this packaging authentic? Are these reproductions or family heirlooms?

@@karolynsmiley4713 I did a bit of searching and the paint pallet swatch thing appears to be authentic. I'm not sure about everything else but the second rouge shown is from Besame cosmetics (retailing for $20 on their website) which makes historically inspired and historical reproduction makeup. If it has a date next to it they likely pulled the color from a vintage product (this mostly applies to the lipsticks) or the years it was commonly used (things like cake mascara which was so common and kinda only one color). I personally have tried their water activated cake mascara and liked it a lot. Everything is made in California with sustainable labor, and everything is vegan as well. Obviously, their makeup isn't exactly the same as some previous ingredients definitely shouldn't be used on skin and they are paraben-free but those are really just upgrades, highly recommend them! edit: the lipstick and mascara are also Besame

@@cailincampbell6722 almost all of america had time and money to buy makeup, it isn't about money. People had money, it was supply that had diminished. Money would be useful until 1931-32-33 at the hardest times... before the thankful rise back to normal societal ideals that FDR led America into. Remember, or hear, that in 1918, we payed 6.7 million dollars to make up for supply that we lost from the war.

Cosmetics actually grew in popularity during the 1930s. Not only was it an affordable treat, but also became acceptable and even required in the workplace (during the 20s, employment contracts for schoolteachers, for example, actually forbade makeup!). The historian Madeline Marsh has studied the use of makeup extensively and has a great book about its importance in each decade.

Something really interesting is that through the Great Depression and other economic crises, women were still spending money on makeup, particularly lipstick. In fact, cosmetic sales INCREASE during such hard times. It's called the Lipstick Effect.

Well the problem was nonexistent because Avon didn’t exist till the 80’s. But there was probably something similar.

My grandma had some stuff from the 40s-80s in the 90 since she was an Avon sales representative and I swear some make up was still good !!!

She replied to another comment that she finds everything on eBay, Etsy, or local antique stores.

Some of the stuff - like the lipsticks and mascara cake are from Besame which is a modern makeup brand that recreates vintage makeup.

I get all my vintage goodies from ebay, etsy or local antique shops! I was inspired to make these videos because my grandmother and mother were both avon representatives and I always found that world fascinating. The samplings, catalogues and avon gatherings. It has always brought me good memories.
