Content Advisory: I talk about food/eating habits, anxiety, and ADHD in this video, along with medication I'm taking, and general burn-out! Thank you for all of the sweet comments so far, I'm glad this is helping some people! But I do want people to know some of the topics that come up in case it's not the content they're ready/looking for!
clickbait title because is it really a break if i still upload once a week - YES I THINK SO LOL
jk I just really wanted to make a video for everyone who was wondering how it all went - I made this long update explaining right before I took my break: • Gibi ASMR Life Update ...
and I figured after talking so much about it, etc, it wouldn't be right to not tell you how it all ended up going! So... enjoy :)
I mention a few things in this video!!
My earrings are from Pondsizedocean ! Non-binary owned small business that makes the most beautiful / cool jewelry!!!!! pondsizedocean...
James' (and my L!) Tattoo artist, Yoon!: www.instagram....\
My nails are Holo Taco!!! Thank you for sending!! www.holotaco.c...
My top is from Nuuly! Pls sponsor me lol
Ok that's all the links I wanted to make sure I put I think :D
Other than that, enjoy the update video!! I shot this two weeks ago so I already don't remember what I said so I'm going to let the video do the talking.... lol c:
Thanks for listening! I think I will probably make it a yearly thing, especially if I can make it to the end of the year normally LOLOL (its April and I'm already Very Busy... but I just have a lot goin on, should calm down soon.. right?? right?????????)
See you in the next video! :D

i think it’s because youtube content in and of itself is ‘free’ that viewers often don’t realise the very real tangible and intangible work that goes into it and set unrealistic expectations as to how they want creators to ‘deliver’ but it’s heartwarming to see people from the ASMR community being so supportive of someone who always keeps us relaxed, taking a breather to relax herself. proud of us and of you Gibi! it’s been great having you back ❤️

I don't know if you realize this or not... Whether it's "Free" to viewers or not doesn't really matter. Viewers are forced to watch ads which in turn creates revenue for RU-vid and the channel owners themselves... They're not simply doing this out of the goodness of their hearts, no matter what they may tell you. They are getting paid ridiculous amounts of money for these videos. So for viewers to have certain expectations on those they choose to watch is not unreasonable in the slightest... Don't perform well and you'll lose viewers... Which in turn loses you money. Pretty simple.

Gibi, one of the main reasons why I essentially fell in love with you as a person (in a non-creepy way - I swear! 🙊) is because of how open, honest, and transparent you are, especially about these very personal matters. It just makes you so relatable. I became a bit more of an introvert these past 2 years, so I completely understand you feeling like your home is your safe space. Thank you for being you, and I hope you take as many guilt-free breaks as your heart desires! You deserve it!! 💜💜💜

Gibi, you should really give this video a title that makes people who struggle with some of the things you talked about find it, even when they're not looking for ASMR. Bc it is incredibly inspiring, helpful and encouraging and I think a lot of people could really benefit from your example of talking so openly, confidently and optimistically about things people really struggle with.

@@GibiASMR Edit: I trorf thinking of titles, they're at the end of this ramble 😅👌 😳 You saw it 😱 I wish I'd written it in a way that sounded less demanding but it WAS meant as a huge compliment and I'm glad you took it that way 💜 I'm actually having a fangirling moment bc you're so much fun, and cool and just generally admirable and I want you to be as happy and healthy as possible and not burn yourself out for the content we enjoy so much. Better to have less of it. I love the idea of a yearly break bc it used to make me anxious that you've been doing 3 vids a week for years with no break. And I'm looking forward to hearing about your experience the next time around. As for the title... hm, there's so many great things in there it definitely can't all be in the title... "Protecting my mental health as a Creator", "My (autocorrect wants to put in "husband" - I don't have one?? Why is it "my" not followed by "(Nintendo) Switch? That would make so much more sense. Ok anyway) experience with taking a break from work/YT for my mental health", (the part in parentheses ist not to be part of the title :p), "Gibi's encouraging adventures in ADHD, anxiety, burnout and allergy"?

I found this so incredibly comforting and helpful to listen to! First of all I’m so happy that you’ve found success in taking the time you needed to reset and get things more under control. It seems like doing something like that once a year would be the move!! I can definitely relate to the feeling of being too comfortable at home and having anxiety around certain things. Recently I went on a trip way outside my comfort zone and anytime I felt on edge I would say in my head “you didn’t come this far to only come this far” cheesy but it really helped. We really can take the steps required to overcome our fears. I appreciate you opening up about your philosophy about content creation and finding balance in doing what you’re passionate about while also striving to keep your audience satisfied. You inspire so many creators out there and I just need to say thank you Gibi!! Much love 💜💜

I really loved hearing the entire story that you told us. I'm finally beginning ADHD treatment for the first time since I was in high school, and I actually have a whole "care team" at my doctor's office who is helping me evaluate what works for me, all the way from medication dosing to helping me create routines and tackling the root of my issues. My life has taken a complete 180, and I'm glad between your treatments and "break" that you have been able to start really taking care of your whole self. It's a huge journey to go on, and a lot of work! It's really uplifting to hear others' experiences like this. ♥

I'm immensely grateful that Gibi tells us about her problems. I have ADHD and most of the people I know, including my parents on most occasions, treat my anxiety with skepticism bc they can't understand what's causing it despite knowing the diagnosis and commonly just tell me to plan better and go to sleep earlier and not worry abt insignificant stuff. But it doesn't work every time, I AM trying my best yet feel myself a freak every now and then bc I can't plan in advance, I make a fuss over little things and cause other people so much inconvenience it often gets cringe

I absolutely can understand it... I have a job I love but there are times where it feels like it asks too much of me. And because I love the job, I want to give it as much as I can. It's easy to give more than is healthy and to need to step back - whether it's for a day or a week - and just get yourself back in order. I imagine it's the same with RU-vid, except probably on a bigger scale since I'm just a grunt rather than effectively a business owner.

I am so glad that you mention self-care and taking a well-deserved break, Gibi. As someone who has had ADHD since childhood, and generalized/social anxiety, my mind is always going, thinking "what do I do now?" Work and graduate school always occupy my time. Having an autonomous schedule keeps me sane, and any deviation from that throws me off. I am glad that you are open about talking about these things--they are not discussed often! Anyway, I am glad that you got to take some time for yourself, hopefully I get to do the same soon!

So many of our students stay up all night and are lacking sleep. We hear so much about kids mental health and I'm not downplaying any of the other issues happening in our kids lives right now, but all of the negative impacts are magnified when they are exhausted. I always hated hearing in the videos where you said you were recording in the middle of the night! Thank you for reminding me that anxiety is not logical. To continue de-stigmatizing psychiatric help (that is, medication): I recently started taking fluoxetine (antidepressant that helps treat my depression and panic and generalized anxiety disorder) again after 2 years off it. I also use hydroxizine (a fast acting anti-anxiety medication that helps me relax so I can sleep, or to stave off a panic attack). I also really appreciate your discussion on exercise-it is so important for me as well (I don't have ADHD, but my psychologist did recommend additional testing that I haven't been able to pursue yet). I guess...just seeing and hearing someone who struggles with things similar to what I struggle with, and how they (you) deal with it, well, it helps. Thank you.

Gibi, thank you for speaking so much about your personal life. When you did your home tour I found myself incredibly envious of your life. We’re about the same age, but I’m not a home owner. I don’t have a streaming room in my 1 bedroom apartment. I don’t even have a boyfriend! And on top of that I’m dissatisfied with my career, while you have the “perfect” career! But this video made me realize that while we are at different places in life, professionally, romantically, financially, whatever it may be, we are both people with our own challenges in life and our own privileges, and I think it was wrong of me to romanticize your situation. You being so honest about your struggles was honestly therapeutic for me. Thank you so much again!! I’m proud of the person you are and the person you are still becoming!! ❤️

As someone who has zero experience being a content creator but absolutely knows how it is trying to manage ADHD with my own schedule rather than a 'typical job' schedule, this was a great listen. I never really thought of all the work that has to go on behind the scenes to make such great videos, nor how that could be stressful and overwhelming if the schedule isn't right. But your tips on keeping a schedule/adding exercise really ring true in my experience too. When I'm doing summer work I tend to be in better spirits overall since I have a more strict schedule and am doing physical work outdoors. Once winter hits I get stuck indoors and the desire to workout disappears, and then I get super cranky and upset until summer finally comes back around. Looks like this winter I'll be trying to keep up my schedule better, or at least adding in some more exercise!

Gibi wow thank you. I feel like I was afraid of losing myself if I tried to get organized because I love the chaos in me. But truth is it’s exhausting and makes me more and more anxious as time goes by. And you are a living proof that you can get organized and still having that little chaos in you making you feel alive and, well…,yourself. And so by getting organized I feel like we can thrive though our chaos instead of having to pay an heavy price for it. And I’m so excited to give it a try ! Thank you so much for sharing, explaining and showing what is possible. I feel like my life’s gonna change. I am truly grateful ! Really hope the best for you as a content creator and as a person

Been falling asleep to your videos for quite some time now. This video I wanted to hear the whole thing and instead of making me fall asleep it had me in a full on sobbing ugly cry when you said how Ben brings you your medication. Can’t imagine that. Never had anyone care enough to notice I even took medication let alone bring it to me. 44 years old and I can’t fathom that. Full on breakdown over a mere description of decency and thoughtfulness

Yes it stops you from doing stuff you love. I didn't want to leave the house either. You do you and I appreciate all the work you have done! PS. during this whole quarantine time my social anxiety has just sky rocketed. like being around people started to make me have panic attacks and it got so bad. i must say, exposure therapy is kind of helping. i got me a job and everyday is a struggle but it kind of got easier. so i definitely see the benefits even though it was kind of brutal for me lol. anyways im glad youre looking after yourself gibi xx

I’m so happy to hear you will take breaks every year. It is so important to relax and achieve other goals not related to work. I personally take a vacation day or two here and there instead of using them all once, or worse not using them at all. I get some workplaces pay the vacation time at the end of the year but to me the time off is more valuable than the money.

When I was diagnosed with ADHD a couple of years ago I also started on Concerta , but felt like a zombie. So I'm also now on 50mg of Elvanse (which is just Vyvanse but under a different name, at least in the UK) I've felt way better and have even been learning guitar for the past 2 years. Always good to hear other people's experiences with ADHD and how they're treating it. Glad you're getting it under control!

I'm so glad that more people are being open about their ADHD journeys and talking about mental health overall. During my junior year of high school, I got diagnosed with three types of anxiety disorders, depression, and ADHD all at once and it was a relief to know what my diagnosis was, but it was a very stressful situation to deal with. I've spent the last 5 years working with different therapists and psychiatrists trying to figure out what treatment plans and medications work best for me. As of now, I'm taking lexapro for my anxiety and concerta for ADHD which have helped me a lot but I'm still trying to find the right dosage. Currently, I'm a college student about to turn 21and my main struggles are my executive functioning skills and dealing with burnout/motivation. I could relate to a lot of things from this video and I think it's really important to talk about mental health so people that are struggling don't feel alone and can find the right help they need. ❤

Hi Gibi! You were the first ASMRtist that I watched on RU-vid. I had no idea what it was or why it came up on my feed but I am so glad it did! I have been through some very difficult periods with my mental health in the years I've watched your videos and like many people here love seeing the notification pop up that you've posted a new video. Your videos have become a huge part of my self care and I'm so glad you got the chance to take care of yourself at the start of the new year. I look forward to seeing your videos for a long time to come ☺️

I hope this year continues to be a lot better for you!

I REALLY related to your story about mental health because I'm leaving my apartment building about once a month. I went out more during lockdown than I am now. Going out means the risk of being hurt by people, catching COVID, feeling exhausted, forced to spend money, making mistakes and having to deal with the consequences of them. My routine at home keeps me safe. But like you, I know that's not a good way to be thinking.

I really empathize with the needing the direct human guidance for some things. I've got ADHD too, and I've started to get a bit more comfortable asking for the 'silly' bits of help I need. I don't think most people realize how huge of a change these little 'silly' things are for us.

Treating ADHD with the right combo of either therapy or meds or whatever someone chooses and you describe "I just feel....... normal?" like it's so hard to describe that your default doesn't feel right. For me with ADHD-I and a thyroid issue, brain fog, forgetfulness, mood swings, fatigue, anxiety. But like that was what was 'normal' most of my life. And to realize omg, I'm just present and not feeling bad and can HAVE THOUGHTS. That's so exciting. I'm so happy for you

as someone w adhd and autism I think the idea of not taking a fully disconnected break and instead just giving yourself room to breath is so much better than just dropping off and not touching it for a while. I find that every time I get burned out on something my go-to solution is to just Stop and come back later but then I feel guilty about stopping so I push it and get even more burnt out and then I really do Stop and then I never want to pick it back up again. I regret it every time, and I think a tactic of Not fully separating yourself from the Thing and still letting yourself have it just without pushing yourself to the limit and giving yourself wiggle room makes you more comfortable with what you're doing without it being like "ok this is a Thing I do and I have to do it so if I dont do it I'm in a completely different place" and then once you're in the different place you're unable to get back into it. lots of what you talked about in this video pertaining to helping your life get on track with your adhd and anxiety really put my own life into perspective of what I need to do to help myself. thank you for making this video gibi I think it helped more people than you mightve thought

Honestly with the awesome videos you put out non-stop maybe it wouldn't be the worst idea if you just did that as a regular thing each year and only do 1 video a week the first 2 months of the year you deserve it :) I did miss your videos but for a happier more relaxed Gibi I'll gladly not have 3 uploads a week for 2 months out of the year. But obviously it's up to you. And even if you hadn't uploaded for 2 months I'd be back. Not sure about everyone else but I'm very selective with my subs but then I'm ride or die ;) Much love!

Gibi is a style icon I swear lol I'm glad you took time for yourself, you've been the most consistent channel for quite some time now and you never phone it in! While we appreciate all the work you put in, your mental health is far more important and I hope you take as many breaks as you need! I've been really debating going back on adhd medication a lot lately, I had a really bad experience when I was younger so it makes me very nervous. Hearing you talk about your experience helps a lot. I hope the stigma around discussing our mental health issues continues to erode. P.s I love these kind of videos, as much as I love the asmr and the roleplays it's nice to hear from the person behind it all lol

You were on a break? I feel cheated... I was talking to you thinking you were there, living inside my "TV". Jokes aside, many people would find this content relatable even if they don’t have food allergies. I'm sure we are a bunch who have a really hard time adjusting to a covid/post-covid social setting, being diminished by fears and anxiety of all kinds. That someone like you, who always seems on top of things, shares their struggles and tips with their audience, is inspiring. Gibi, your audience is NOT going to disappear, are you kidding me? I’m glad your back and healthier than ever (:

Holy sh*t! I relate to so many things you talked about in this video: the post-Covid anxiety, the awful sleep schedule (and the "oh, I'm just going to look at this one thing for 20 mins and then I'll head to bed..." thing), the lack of a work schedule, etc, etc. And I didn't know that exercise was so vital for ADHD management! Might just have to start up a workout routine again... like you, it's been a hot minute since I had one of those 👀 I'm so glad you found the schedule break useful and I would definitely encourage you to make it a yearly thing, if you think you need it. Hell, make it as often as you like because, as you mentioned, 3 videos per week is CRAZY. Idek how you do it. But you do and you're killing it. All the best Gibi!

Glad your break has helped you so much! I've been putting a lot of work into content creation (I'm not anywhere near monetization yet, but I like to be consistent and constantly improving) because I have surgery coming up and then I'm moving out of state, so I'm trying to 'get ahead'. I think I'll take some inspiration from you and take a 'break' where I'm uploading fewer vids and I can focus on getting myself organized - I also have anxiety and probably ADHD, so it's so nice to hear from someone in the same boat
