I really wasn't that exited about this game for a very long time, I was quite cynical about it and I think there were some reasons to be, but you guys' coverage and lore recapping vids are what made me actually look forward to this. very curious what your verdict will be, but mostly thank you for the great content that made me feel something for this franchise again
Played a few hours and man this game plays REALLY well. I also got pretty excited when I looked at the Codex entry for the Order of Ancients and saw them described as a group who reveres the Isu specifically which follows up on what Valhalla established, so I'm looking forward to how they handle the targets in the game. Great review and I hope to walk out of it positively at the end as well!
Over the game is what I expected, and I’m happy with that. Only real disappointment is that Alamut is just a level and not a part of free roam. Not a deal breaker but really upsetting to hear :(
Long comment, sorry. The shortest summary of my thoughts on Mirage would be: It is good! Is it the best in the series? I’d say the actual world is; none of AC’s previous worlds have been as beautiful as this one. For once, the world feels consistent, immersive, and detailed. In Valhalla, the color palette was a bit… weird, and things didn’t feel as hand-crafted. But other than that I’d say it has the same strengths and flaws as the rest of the series. I think Mirage, for me and many others, is more about returning to the series as it once was. And it was a very nice experience that got me emotional. But surprisingly, it also gave me a new appreciation for the CURRENT series. This game felt like an amazing tribute, and if this is the “swan song” for these types of games I’d actually be fine with it. Returning to a more simple, linear, stealth-driven game felt great but if this was the future of AC it WOULD feel like a step back for me, and I’m glad I feel that way. I’d say the only strong negative was that it got me a bit worried about the future of the game. As I said I enjoy the “current” AC, but the future feels less predictable than ever now. This game did, in many ways, feel like an “ending”, and I just hope the next era is something I can get into. Without a modern-day story, it will unfortunately be extremely hard for me to care about the story, which is one of the main appeals of the game for me. At least it’s the main reason I still play the series 15 years later. The modern-day story is needed to tie things together and give things purpose, and I was excited to see Basim as a new hope for the modern-day story. But it’s starting to seem like that might not ever be a thing. Without any disrespect to the writers; If I wasn’t already aware of Basim I would not care about the story of Mirage, at all. This game got me thinking about the past while enjoying the present, and worrying a bit about the future. If this is the end of a series that appeals to me it would be a great ending. Whether that ends up being the case or not, I enjoyed this as a very well-made “anniversary” game, more than a normal standalone title.

Completed the game (minus a majority of the enigmas) yesterday after 32 hours of gameplay. It isn’t perfect, but I think Mirage has dethroned the original game in my eyes (the original has been my favorite AC for many years). I only wish that there was some kind of procedurally generated contract system or the like, as I really want to keep playing (beyond grinding for achievements, which I have already done).
I do like the pourcore so far the stelth I'm great at end up getting caught regardless i felt like the first few hours was grind to get some tools to help you out in combat like smoke garades would be helpful throughout the game but you don't get it until 4hours into game
alas my wait must be a little longer. i preordered to collectors edition but there has been issues with delivery with ups. looks like i will have to take the day off work whenever they attempt to deliver it again so i can be home. they literally wont just leave it on my doorstep, its super annoying.
Thx for the review. Just one question (maybe spoilery?). Is there something like the "cult"/"order" hunt like in odyssey/vahalla (with letter and stuff)? It's a thing that i love very much 😂
YES! There is a whole menu called Investigation menu where you can track your missions and targets, check clues and letters, etc. It's not like Odyssey and Odyssey as in you don't have X amount of targets and you have to go get them but more like, you have these few main targets but before getting to them you have to investigate, find other minibosses, assassinate them first in order to get to your main target(s)
It does make you feel oftentimes as the original games! It feels like AC1 for the environment and the feel in general. And it feels like ACU because of the crowds and the Assassiny style (not parkour tho)
Ptetty much every single game that is released in the modern age will have a day one patch. It's not a big deal. All it means is that the company continues to work on the game after disks are printed..
Anyone else annoyed/confused about there being time limited challenges for the game on ubisoft connect that expire literally when the game come out?😂 how tf is Anyone supposed to complete or even attempt to complete them?
Man, I really wanted to love this game... The gameplay is great, and the world is amazing, but the story leaves a lot to be desired. And that is putting it lightly. Merely reciting the three tenets of the creed is nowhere near enough for the story to be a legitimate addition to the tradition of past games.
