Assassin's Creed Origins is a 2017 action-adventure video game developed and published by Ubisoft. It is the tenth major installment in the Assassin's Creed series and the successor to 2015's Assassin's Creed Syndicate. Set in Ancient Egypt near the end of the Ptolemaic period (49-43 BC), the story follows a Medjay named Bayek of Siwa and his wife Aya, and explores the origins of the centuries-long conflict between the Hidden Ones-forerunners to the Assassin Brotherhood-who fight for peace by promoting liberty, and The Order of the Ancients-forerunners to the Templar Order-who desire peace through the forced imposition of order. Featuring a large open world, Origins adopted elements from role-playing video games and incorporated an overhauled "hitbox-based" combat system.
The game's development began following the release of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (2013). Ubisoft Montreal led its four-year development with help from a team of nearly 700 people from other Ubisoft studios around the world. The team consulted Egyptologists and historians extensively to ensure the setting was authentically represented in the game. While Assassin's Creed had been an annual franchise since Assassin's Creed II (2009), an extra year of development time allowed the team to polish the game further. This was largely a response to the tepid sales of Syndicate, and the troubled launch of Unity, which was plagued with technical issues when it was released in 2014.
Announced at E3 2017, Origins was released on October 27, 2017, for Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It received positive reviews from critics, with many calling it an improvement over previous entries and praising the story, characters, voice acting, reworked gameplay systems, world design, historical accuracy and the visuals. The game drew criticism for its pacing, quest design, and technical issues. The game has sold over ten million units worldwide and was nominated for several end-of-year accolades. Ubisoft supported the game extensively following its launch, releasing two paid expansions and Discovery Tour, a series of guided tours for educational purposes. A sequel, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, was released in October 2018.
Assassin's Creed Origins is an action-adventure stealth game played from a third-person perspective. Players complete quests-linear scenarios with set objectives to progress through the story. Outside of quests, the player can freely roam the open world environment on foot, horseback, camel-back, horse-drawn vehicles or boat.[1][2] The open world includes all of Egypt, featuring vast deserts, oasis, lakes and ancient cities such as Alexandria and Memphis.[3][4] Bayek can dive underwater and explore the lakes and the rivers, a first for the series.[5] As the players explore the world, they encounter different non-playable characters who need assistance from Bayek. These side missions, which typically involve rescuing prisoners, defeating enemies, collecting items or investigating items of interest,[6] often take Bayek to locations of interest, where the player can find treasures.[7] Throughout the game, players can explore tombs and pyramids, raid bandit hideouts, solve riddle puzzles to find rare loot, and discover synchronization points, which then unlock additional locations of interest and serve as fast travel points.[8][9]

I don’t know man, I think I just don’t like the story my big problem is pacing, a lot of emotional sense seems to come out of nowhere, we as a player spend too little time with a lot of characters to actually care about them. Other than that villains are a complete joke, we have no idea about motivations of the order- it seems like there are a bunch of evil people, doing evil for the sake of it But my biggest problem is that it’s not really intrusting- it’s a revenge story in ancient Egypt- as simple as that, there’s no plot twist or revelation.

Edit: Hi everyone, Crystal here! I'm so touched with all your kind words, well wishes, enthusiasm to play Origins, and my story inspiring you all to play for the first time. I'm definitely doing so much better now. I'm 2 years post surgery, and have been officially cancer free for a year, 2 years on Dec. 31st 2022. Thank you all for your kind words. I hope you enjoyed or are enjoying your playthrough, and I hope you're all having fun. 💜💜💜 I first played this game a few months after it came out. I had never played an Assassin's Creed game before, and when I saw that it took place in Ancient Egypt, I knew I had to play it. I'm a huge fan of Ancient Egypt. My partner would leave his laptop with me when he went to work and I would tell him of my adventures when he came back. When I was diagnosed with stage 1 thyroid cancer in early 2020, I fell into a deep depression, especially after my surgery. I was exhausted all the time, and I would just get too tired playing the games I usually played at the time. So my partner bought me the deluxe edition with both of the DLC so I could have something to do while he was at work, and something for me to focus on rather than being depressed. Origins saved me. I didn't have to worry about being sick, I didn't have to worry about the next treatment. All I wanted to do was to go into Ancient Egypt and help the people and make their lives better. I've played and beaten Origins so many times throughout the years, and while 2020 had a lot of painful memories for me, I put in about 111 hours when I was recovering, and I will never delete that save file. To me, that save file is a record of the trials of what I went through, and the strength that I had during that time.

They could have really picked up where it left off to developed areas where the original one didn’t fully deliver on in the story and gameplay. For one example, it’s supposed to be an origins story (hence the name lolz), but it doesn’t really get into where the philosophy and tenants of the Creed are derived and fostered. What was the pivotal point that allowed this secret to be carried forward for so many generations? Yeah, I understand it did a good job showing us the founders of the Creed - and the Hidden Ones DLC did an even better job at expanding this - but is was still a little lacklustre in the sense that Aya is just like “Oh, you see that eagle skull? I am a hidden one now.” I know that’s a small simplification, but still I feel the change was somewhat quick with no greater explanation to that philosophy and what value it meant for Aya and Bayek to shed their past. However, the game does do very well in the sense it hints small, intricate, and sometimes subliminal references to the Creed and what it means. For example, the one side quest where there is a man revered as a prophet and God-like was revealed to only be corruptive and cruel. Bayek ends him and confronts this his philosophy with his own in true assassin style, and I thought it was an underrated and exceptional bit of the story (especially since it was only a side quest). There’s also several others within the culture of the Egyptian people and their relationship to God-Kings (and deities in general), etc. Through and through, I definitely feel like Origins could have laid the groundwork for something amazing. Even the Isu story and the cyclical apocalypse idea I thought would have been interesting. Unfortunately all this was scrapped.

Anyway, sorry for the long wall of text, but I really did love this game and I’m frustrated with the direction it’s going with another new rpg like Valhalla and Odyssey confirmed. Feels like they’re making stand-alone games, which really escapes a major part that I think people loved about these games; it’s cohesive and creative story line (albeit not always perfect).

Of the three Ancient Saga games, Origins is my absolute favorite. The acting is definitely amazing and carries its less-amazing script really hard. Its writing clearly had a rocky development, as pieces are missing, in weird places, or sometimes just odd, but as an _atmosphere,_ as a grouping of systems and mechanics, Assassin's Creed Origins is pretty close to sublime. Even its negatives can be played around in a reasonable time-frame - something I can't say about Odyssey or Valhalla. Bayek responds to player-input instantaneously, the RPG elements are just present enough to bear thinking about, but not as oppressively overbearing as Odyssey's and Valhalla's. I feel like this is about the farthest they could possibly push it without Assassin's Creed shattering to dust in the player's hands. It's not perfect. Again, its story isn't something I'm too interested in commenting on, but as far as being a _game_ is concerned, it plays smoother, faster, and snappier than Odyssey or Valhalla could ever hope to. It also has the strongest, least buggy and most functional stealth in the trilogy, it lets me play and sneak through compounds with a completely _ludicrous_ level of aggression without ever being seen or letting a stray detection collapse everything. It gets my respect for that _alone._ I love this game. Thank you for covering it.

I played this game when my mind wasn't in a good state. To see how Assassin's Creed changed, how Bayek and Aya are with each other and adapted themselves to what they think it's best... I loved how everything interacts. It brings me comfort. When Bayek says "You will not devour my heart!" is something I'll treasure and remember when my mind goes into a bad place again.

Then I would slowly walk to a ledge and jump. When I was a lot younger I started writing outlines of a fantasy story that took place in a desert. It took many years to really try and figure out what I was doing. When Origins came out I was immediately able to put it together. “This is how I want it to feel” origins was next level in what it accomplished with making a breathing world and an emotion behind being in that era. To this day I listen to the soundtrack when I write. Truly has been one of the biggest inspirations behind why I do what I do.

Bayek easily became my absolute favorite assassin. Not only because of his rage fueled by loss, but also because of his love he has for everyone around him. He’s a man of faith and a man of the people. He truly believes in the sanctity of life and values people of all ages. He often ends up helping either elders or very young kids. Showing what a wonderful father he is even to children that may not be bonded by blood. That’s why I struggled with eivor so much he really doesn’t have that much going on except for his dads death which is avenged with a couple hours into the game and also he constantly calls his father a coward for how he died so not sure if he’s really doing it for his father or for himself.

I also love how every weapon type had its own distinct identity. Sickle swords for instance are the only weapon that will turn an enemy`s back towards you after a heavy attack, which you could follow up with a light attack for bonus damage if you were fast enough. (The enemy would turn back around after that). And the bonus with the two-handed maces was that after a parry, the first melee hit on the parried enemy always had a 100% crit chance. I was sad to see these features gone in Odyssey.

The world in this game is just on another level. The attention to detail and the way the team depicted the people's habits, the way they worked, the accuracy of the maps from a historic point of view..ugh so good. At one point I was just strolling around a small town and stumbled into some npcs painting portraits on some sarcophagus, went around the spot and another npc was dyeing fabrics, preparing salt and various herbs to embalm the dead ones. Then googled about it to find out more and found out everything actually existed. It was related to the Fayum mummy portraits. A mix of greek and egiptean naturalistic portraits where the two cultures clashed and brought up something new. That's just one spot on that whole map.

I love that in Origins, it's showed how the custom of removing the ring finger began. It was completely by accident, but the assassins took it as a rite of passage, and ran with it! Also that there is a statue of Amunet below Monteriggioni in AC2! Love that Ubisoft looped back to make that connection. Origins is definitely an important game in the series 👏
@mrpleebus9862
@mrpleebus9862 3 года назад
The symbolism of the chopped-off ring finger orginally related to the fact that in AC1, Assassins weren't allowed to be married (because you can't wear a wedding ring if you've got no ring finger); the 'thimble' of the hidden blade took the place of the ring, symbolizing that you were 'married' to the Assassins. But in Origins, it symbolizes the failure of Bayek and Aya's marriage in the face of the higher calling that they're drawn to. It's a really clever and meaningful bit of retconning. Fun fact: I did some research (i.e., went on Wikipedia) and found out that wearing a ring on the fourth finger of the left hand to symbolize love/marriage was a tradition in Ancient Egypt during Bayek's time, and even 1,000 years before that, making it one of the oldest human traditions that currently exists. The Egyptians believed there was a vein that ran from that finger directly to the heart.

Everything about this game is perfect and I always dreamt that Ubisoft will make an Assassin's creed set in ancient civilizations especially in Egypt and my wishes have finally come true... Thank you Ubisoft... Really proud of you... I mean this game has it all... Kings queens pharaohs mummies Roman generals Caeser Cleopatra Pyramids Deserts ... What more can I ask for...

I think leveling in Origins was great.. It helped with the feel of the First Assassin (hidden one) and his journey of understanding and strengh.. the fact that he struggled a lot in the begining and them he became that force of nature by the end, including the dlc.. it's fitting for such a mythical setting to have this journey full of mistery and wonder. I loved when the that main battle theme played as Bayek triumphs agaisnt the old and the new enemies.. the egyptian rising up in a fallen egypt dominated by Romans and Greeks, and then even facing the dead pharaohs coming back to life, after all that Journey.. knowing that this is how the brotherhood rised.. it's fantastic.

I really love the forts, when i was further in the game i loved to just go to a fort and try to stealthy or storm in to and take out the complete forth. This was a fun way to combat some more!!

I’ve finished the main story and Hidden Ones. I’m still working my way through Curse of the Pharaohs, but I know exactly what you’re talking about. One of my favorite things to do is sneak all the way around an enemy camp, stealth attacking as many guards as I can and boobytrapping every brazier i come across. I’ll eventually let the shit hit the fan and then get a good vantage point to watch some fool eventually blow himself up trying to signal for reinforcements. It never gets old.

Amazing Jayvee. You really gave me more reasons to replay this masterpiece. I played it when the quarantine started and it really helped me in difficult times. I have a lot of good memories of this game and, in some ways, it touched my heart. Keep it up ❤

This is one of those games I just couldn't wait to play, the music, the mystique, it was so fantastic. I've not encountered a game in recent memory that has captured me as much as origins.

It's my favourite Assassin's Creed. From a lifelong fan! I loved Bayek, you described him perfectly when you say he "turned into a dad" everytime a kid was in a scene. I think Ancient Egypt as a landscape helped that uniqueness. It's magic is something almost everyone is intrigued by, and it was made perfectly. Origins also didn't go over the way with history and the science fiction elements, like Odyssey and Valhalla did. It's an amazing experience, and one of the few game I would love to play for the first time again

Bro, this series has really changed my perspective on the AC games. I too stopped playing after Alexandria when I was told to go play side quests for XP so that I can continue the story.. I just gave up and moved on. Your video on Unity however, changed my mind about these games and I started with Unity 2 days ago, and I freaken love it. After watching this, I definitely want to give Origins a try again. Maybe I'll find that magic in it as well

@@malazan6004 it depends, if you are a fan of the old AC games and you didn't like or in your case was disappointed in and Odyssey then no, I wouldn't recommend it. Valhalla is basically a blend of the 2 games and for me personally, I am enjoying it but it's definitely not a good AC game.

The subtle details like people in the villages doing everyday things and venerating deities, the atmosphere and the intricate details like hallucinating mirages in the desert and seeing Moses or burning bush really makes this a good game. It's a emotional experience with bayek and Ayas revenge of their son. And accurately depicts ptomelic Greco Roman ancient Egypt

This game overall has emotion and that cozy adventurish feeling we all thrive for, the immense amount of things to do, a long with great quests, views (hermit places) and much more is what makes this game so good.

Another great video! I'm playing Origins for the first time in 2022, and I am loving it. I am not much of an AC fan since the first one. I didn't really like Odyssey or Valhalla, but something about this one is really grabbing me. And i think you nailed it in your section about SIMPLICITY. I thought that was perfectly said, and it really made me realize that's what it is about it. Also it plays fantastic on Series X, super smoooth.

Not at all. Oddesy is garbage tbh. Way too long and boring story. No hidden blade. Set in a time hundreds of years before the hidden ones were made. Has litteraly nothing to do with assasins creed.

I'll never unsee how good the facial animations are in Origins, like the emotion is so vicible and the mouth moves in sync with the words we hear. Especially compared to other games from that same time, it really stands out. Let's just say horizon zero dawn, amazing graphics and stuff, but the facial animations gave away that it was actually still a game. In Origins, they're so real, so vibrant and so expressing, especially on the main characters.

What I remember from the newest games is that the games at times feels like a chore, it is not really than fun to do 100 similar side quests where you for example rescue some people from cages and so on just to get a little bit of exp. would personally have fewer and more memorable quests like the davinci quests of the old games.
